FULL APPEARANCE:
Hanzo doesn’t care as much about his appearance as he used to. His clothes aren’t as well cared for since he started dragonriding, and he is pretty scruffy compared to how he was when he was younger. His hair is now cut short, for maintenance purposes, as he found having long hair while riding a pain for him to deal with. It has also started to grey from stress though he speculates that that was just how his family line was. His father had a similar problem as he grew older.
He still maintains a good physique, working hard to remain strong. However, he still can’t help but notice he’s getting a little rounder as his metabolism slows down a bit more. He knows he’s shorter than average and still holds himself as he were ten feet tall. Despite this, however, he has prominent bags under his eyes, as he has a rough time sleeping.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Hanzo can be very proud. He doesn’t exactly lord his status over non-riders as hard as he used to as a younger man, but he still demands respect. He can be snide and cold, but will remain polite so long as the other party does not do anything to provoke him. He doesn’t really make friends so much as he assembles a network of people he deems trustworthy and make a list of people he does not consider trustworthy. He prefers to keep people at arm’s length and has a hard time getting to know people. It’s not helped by his tendency to burn bridges when he feels as though he cannot keep up the personality that others know him for. As such, great personal change is usually accompanied by a new set of allies or friends.
He takes great pride in his efficiency at fighting Thread, as well as his hunting and combat skills. He likes to be a good example, and will gladly accept praise for such things. However, he still strives to be better, and hates when he fails at anything. He was once a strict and firm traditionalist, but has since mellowed out to a sort of Traditionalist. He has less hate and mistrust of mutations upon seeing them in action, but he’s still sticking to the idea that bronzes, golds and their riders are deserving of their status s leaders. Intra-weyr politics interest him only as far as how much they affect him. He tends to not really care much otherwise.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Sojiro (deceased)
Genji (Younger Brother)
BIRTHPLACE: A relatively well off Cothold
HISTORY:
Hanzo was the perfect son.
He followed his father’s word to the letter, and did everything he could to provide for his family, be it through hunting, training or anything to just to make his father seem more competent of a parent. Yet he could sense that his father preferred his more lighthearted brother Genji. His heart grew cold as he grew away from them, and gladly accepted the invitation from a bronze rider from Benden to be a candidate. Hanzo cut off all ties from his father and brother, throwing himself into his studies. He longed to ride bronze, as he grew to befriend the bronzeriders who’d taken him under their wing. He was smart and eager to impress, standing for clutch after clutch.
However, when he turned 18, he received a most unexpected partner.
Velocith, a blue, was born with a stunning, shiny hide. Upon hatching, he did a lap around the candidates, and skidded to a halt before Hanzo.
Hanzo! Hanzo buddy it’s me! Me, your Velocith! I’ve been so impatient stuck in that dumb egg, but now I’m here!
Hanzo was stunned. He’d been a vehement opponent of mutations up to that point, but. This spirited blue was insisting they were to be together forever. Hanzo would have rejected him but. The sensation of sheer JOY that he felt brought tears to his eyes.
So now he was stuck with Velocith.
Hanzo cut himself off from his former bronzerider pals as well, too ashamed to show his face. He’d spouted off a lot about being so sure that he would Impress Bronze, or even brown... and the thought of having to come back to them with an excitable little shiny blue dragon was… too much. But as time went on, he started to meditate on that much, and realized that perhaps something less than what hed wanted wasn' all THAT bad. Velocith was a speedy and thorough dragon, quick to notice details and act on reflexes. And perhaps it was for the best. If he’d Impressed Bronze, he’d have all the eyes of the weyr on him. While he was fine with the idea, there was also the added risk of somehow screwing up and bringing shame to his reputation. Plus, despite being a mutant, Velocith was an excellent and hard worker. The gold standard of all mutant and all blue dragons. So while he was still just a blue, he was the best blue on all of Pern.
Eventually, both dragon and rider graduated and got to work among the wings of Benden. They made good names for themselves, earned the trust of their fellow riders as reliable and brave. However, Velocith was restless. As much as he liked Benden, he started asking Hanzo if moving was an option. Hanzo was unsure, but after some talk and research eventually they both decided it was a fine idea, and decided to move to Fort Weyr. Despite the drama happening there, it HAD to be better than what was happening a High Reaches or Semeca. And the recent change in management was something that was enough to irritate Hanzo into action at last. He had not seen it coming, but saw it as a sign that moving was an excellent idea...
A fresh start would do them both good.
