FULL APPEARANCE:
Kouji has long black hair he grows to nearly his waist, which he keeps pulled back in a ponytail (or tied in a bun when worn under his riding helmet), and light grey eyes. His pale skin makes him burn easily in the summer, and rather than gaining a tan he just goes straight back to pale. He has a rather sturdy build, with strong shoulders and straight posture. This isn't to say he's bulky, but he's definitely not petite or scrawny. He and his brother seem to share a general face-shape, making mistaking them easily if not paying attention to their eye colour or build. As far as clothing, he generally wears whatever is functional and comfortable, though seems to unconsciously lean toward darker shades (especially of blue).
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
When first meeting someone, he is rather standoffish and may even be a bit irritable toward them. The truth is, he is quite shy, unsure of how to approach others, and as a result of his pushing others away for fear of his shyness being found out and mocked, lonely. If someone is persistent enough despite his prickly attitude, he will gradually warm up and they will find that he is quite a great and loyal friend. He will without hesitation follow his friends into obvious danger, if only to ascertain they return in one piece.
Fairly quiet and usually preferring to just keep to himself, Kouji is a little difficult to get to know on a personal level even once befriended. He doesn't particularly like talking about his past, as it causes him emotional strain to think of those he was separated from as a child--one has to often ask the right questions in the right way if they want specific answers to things, or be willing to drop a topic if he begins to become visibly distressed. He doesn't tend to hold grudges, so making up with him is fairly easy, though he may change his stance if the offense is to his dragon or his brother (or his dragon).

Kouji's parents separated when he and his brother were very young, and Kouji was taken with their father when he left with their new step-mother. At only four years of age the transition was difficult for him, not fully understanding why they had to leave and immensely stressed by the separation from his twin. As a results, topped with the fear of having to leave everyone and everything behind again, he withdrew into himself, becoming quiet and shy.
Growing up with his father and stepmother in Istan territory, Kouji's relationship with the latter was rather strained, never quite fully accepting her as his mother until shortly before he was Searched. With two parents to look after him, he grew up relatively well, not particularly struggling for food or shelter. At fifteen he was Searched and sent off with great pride by his father and step-mother, but he didn't Impress Garmth until he was nineteen. During his candidacy he did continue pursuing Smithcrafting he had taken up prior to his Searching, but upon Impression he began his future as a Rider.
Going through training at Ista and fully intending to stay there, it wasn't his twenty-third Turnday that he discovered news that his long-lost brother may be at Fort Weyr. Hoping to reunite with him, he immediately arranged transfer.
