FULL APPEARANCE: Sarja is just taller than average. Her body is average, neither too lean nor too thick. She has hips, and breasts and shoulders all around the same size making her appear somewhat boxy. She is fit from running from bed to lessons as she has a tendency to oversleep.
Her skin has a lovely, unbroken olive complexion that darkens and freckles from too much sun. The same sun will bleach her black ringlets to brown and highlight the warm of her brown eyes. Her features are soft and round, with wide, full lips, plump cheeks, large eyes and a nose to match.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Sarja is a rather mild sort of person. She does well with putting on a brave face or a calming smile. Most of this is due to her healer training and cultivating a bedside manner. Some is inherited from her mother who rarely, if ever, seemed ruffled. She comes across as decidedly nice, if a bit hallow. She really doesn't leave much of an impression at all. Just sort of sliding by. You could call it a lack of personality. Being too caught up presenting a certain face to the world, the person behind the mask gets lost.
Yet, that mask is Sarja. She wants to make her parents proud. She wants to make the fact that she's missed so much time with them matter by being the best healer she can be. She doesn't strive to be the best in all of Pern, just the best Healer Sarjaadlo. And maybe to show that she's accomplished something on her own merit, even if maybe it was because of her father that she got into the Hall in first place. Perhaps too, to make up for a whole half a family she's never met. Sarja hate the cold. Which made Fort winters a misery for her. She also has no fondness for water, either. In fact, you couldn't get her into a pool of it without the threat of Thread. The weather was much more mild in Boll, even if it was, sadly, closer to the sea.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Lord Holder - father Amirillda - mother Sandar - step-father 3 siblings, 2 older, 1 younger
SIGNIFICANT OTHER:
BIRTHPLACE: Southern Boll
HISTORY: Sarjaadlo is the illegitimate child of a Holder. In the winder of 2741 her mother was a drudge in Southern Boll Hold, and worked on the side at keeping the Lord from boredom. Though she was not paid for this in anymore than favor. When it was found Amirillda was pregnant, she was given a small bag of marks by the Lady Holder and married off to a herdsman who had recently been given a very small holding for his good work. And a pregnant wife. Sandar was well aware of her situation, but was happy enough to have a wife that came with a dowry and the Lord's favor.
They made a good, if modest, life together. Sandar treated Sarja as his own, though he did favor her younger brother over her. This had more to do with gender than parentage. Sarja's life was, for the most part, boring. Like dozens and dozens of other children she learned lessons from the Harper and attended whatever chores assigned to her by her parents. These often included keeping an eye on her younger brother. Times were hard however, and unsettled. Strange things were happening in the skies, and they were reflected on the ground with chaos and confusion. In the midst of the turmoil, after one particularly hard winter, Sarja found herself having to say goodbye to her family.
She was being sent to Fort Hold to learn the healing arts. Her mother wept when she left, and when Sandar left her at the Healer Hall doors, his face was dark and his look stern. Kneeling beside her, he told her to keep head high and her ears plugged to any nonsense that she may here. And of course, to be good. Always to be good. A brisk hug and he was gone, leaving the shivering nine year old alone with strangers. Sarja cried too. Healing was hard work. But harder than that was learning to live with the whispers. There weren't many, but what there were were confusing. No one had told Sarjaadlo about her less than immaculate conception, though Sandar's vague warnings made more sense when she began to hear the rumors, and finally to understand them.
She had occasional visits from her family, though they were infrequent and sporadic thanks to the times. Travel became harder and more dangerous with dragon battles and Thread.
