FULL APPEARANCE:
Johnny looks his age. The years have made him pretty tired looking, and a little shaggy around the edges hair-wise. His hair is blonde, short, and messy. It sticks out a little bit in every direction and he doesn't care enough to make it look nicer. The beard really aided in the messy old man vibe but again, he sure isn't shaving.
Despite looking tired, he's kept his body in very good shape, and is much more fit than you'd expect. His arms and legs are where most of his muscle is kept, and the guy has a real good right hook and a killer high kick. He usually dresses in really casual clothing, usually blacks, reds, and yellows. He has a reddish-brown leather jacket that he is never seen without.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: [TW ALCOHOLISM]
If you boil Johnny down to his bare essentials, he's a dick. But that doesn't mean that he likes being one. A former painfully close-minded traditionalist (no garnets, mutations, female bronzeriders, the whole works), Johnny has realized that the world is moving towards progressiveness. It's not the people who chose to Impress those weird ass colors, it's the dragons that picked the people. He's still traditional, of course, and definitely thinks a gold should be in charge of the Weyr. No questions asked. He's still trying to adjust to his new perspective.
Johnny doesn't want to be seen as weak, and that's what a lot of his personality is founded on. He's responsible to a fault, and will always get his work done (even if he complains about it.) He thinks that he can do whatever he wants and that people will just deal with it.
He does care about people, but he tends to say or do the wrong thing at the wrong time and ruin it all. He's a tough-love kind of guy, and not everyone else is! He knows that, but makes no change to himself. However, he'll always give people second chances as he thinks that, if he doesn't give other people second chances, and he makes a big mistake, they won't give him a second chance. He often turns to alcohol whenever he feels too strong of a negative emotion.

HISTORY:
Johnny is a homegrown Fortian. His father died of an infection related sickness in his youth, so he never really got to know him well. His mom tried to be in his life as much as she could as she felt like he had a right to have one parent around, even if creche rasing was a thing. Her new weyrmate, Sid, was a piece of shit. No beating around the bush. He and Johnny fought a lot whenever they saw each other, and they both made a point to never see each other.
Johnny put the brat in weyrbrat, and was always trying to pick on or fight with the other creche kids. As he got older, he had to break out of that and actually contribute to society. So, when he turned 15, he became a candidate. It was the year after he first became a candidate that he met Danny, some dweeb from Fort Hold. They became rivals, friendly-ish rivals, but rivals. It was at 16 that Johnny Impressed to Brown Cobreth, a mean old man of a brown, and he wasn't even old yet!
He started talking to this girl, Ali. They were around the same age, and she was even a candidate while he was. They hit it off instantly, love at... well, love. Of course, Johnny was a master of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. He said something that upset her, and she broke off their relationship. Very soon after, a broken-hearted Johnny saw Danny hitting on his ex. What happened to the bro code, man? From then on, his and Danny's friendship kept getting sourer and sourer as Johnny felt like Danny had completely betrayed his trust.
Sooner rather than later, Johnny graduated from weyrlinghood and fought in the Interval War. He was either at war, or at Fort, but always thinking of the fight. Where two of Johnny's relationships had failed, a new one was created. He met Shannon, a real nice weyrfolk gal during the tail end of the War, and fell in love. They became weyrmates, and sooner rather than later, they were to have a son. He wasn't there when Robby was born, rather he was off fighting. The war as a whole had taken a toll on Johnny's psyche, and he made a rash decision. Once it ended, he immediately left for Igen. He broke up with Shannon, and made no effort to be in any aspect of Robby's life.
He had an internal downward spiral in Igen. His mental health wasn't getting any better, and he refused to see a mindhealer as he thought that the mere idea of doing that meant that he was weak. And Johnny was not weak. After ten years at Igen, he went back to Fort, missing home. Eventually, he finally went to that mindhealer, just once (you couldn't make him go any more than once if you paid him), and worked on a little bit of what was bothering him so much. He was only young when the war broke out, and barely even an adult when he had to fight in it, and he'd been carrying that with him for a while without ever really talking about it or getting it off his chest. It felt... well, it felt good to get some of that off his chest. When he got back, he and Danny met up and went right back into the rivalry they had when they were younger like ten years hadn't even passed.
While he isn't the biggest fan of Tuckal per se, he knows that a gold should be in charge of the Weyr, and she's the only goldrider they have. To him, a coup is not the right way to go about the who-is-in-power situation, and the grounding of able-bodied dragons, regardless if they are strange colors or not-male-ridden or not, is just plain old stupid. He gets where Z'osh is coming from but, come on, there's definitely a better way all of this could have gone down. If Fort goes down in the next Threadfall because of a lack of numbers, Johnny knows that it's on Z'osh's head.
