FULL APPEARANCE: Jexin is not the tallest man; for someone who is assigned male at birth on Pern, in fact, he is relatively short. His build is a bit stocky, with broad, ox-like shoulders and a wide chest. He looks quite strong, with a thick, yet muscular look, not unlike a lumberjack. He has light skin, green eyes, and dark hair, the latter worn in a short yet curly style. His eyebrows are thick, and he keeps his face mostly, but not entirely, shaven. His blocky nose has been broken before, and it's clear to see, from the scars and the slight divot near the bridge.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Although Jexin’s intentions are often noble, he often goes too far. He is willing to cause great harm to others--though it is more often minor harm--to enact idealistic visions. He knows what he wants the world to look like: somewhere with peace, where no one is hungry, where innovation and growth thrive. A meritocracy with those who have the best intentions and the smartest brains in charge. Naturally, Jexin thinks he is the right guy for the job. He wants to lead more than anything else, thinking he can do a better job than anyone else. He would not want to lead a wing, as this would lock him out of options that could enact real change--now that there are so many new positions. Overall, he is ambitious, and a bit of a traditionalist--largely because it suits him well enough. There is a hierarchy for a reason, but he tends to “forget” that browns and bronzes aren’t on the same level.
Although he is not the worst guy out there, he is willing to ignore other people’s emotions or wellbeing for the sake of what he thinks is right. He focuses strongly on the greater good, with a utilitarian perspective. Sometimes, people need to suffer to achieve a better society. His actions can be a bit destructive--either to himself or others--but he tends to think he’s doing good things. Overall, he lacks self awareness.
In social interactions, he can be very pretentious, and certainly a bit of a snob. Judgmental and arrogant, he thinks he knows better than others, thinks he’s smarter than others. Jexin is quick to criticize others as well, and generally seems to have no sense of conscience, so long as actions or words serve his goals. While his goals are generally noble and just, he is willing to do awful things, assuming the end result justifies the means. He is generally serious and unable to loosen up, but gets very passionate about politics, and his temper has a hairpin trigger. He keeps his anger in check, quietly seething, but it doesn’t take much to anger him. His discipline means that most of his anger comes out in judgment and hatred, rather than lashing out or arguing.

HISTORY: Jexin was the first child born to a pair of weyrfolk at Telgar weyr. A turn later, his sibling, Crux was born. Jexin's mother, Ajaxeira, was a healer, and his father, Cruryn, was a cook. Cruryn would often sneak the two children treats and spoiled them, while Ajaxeira was more firm and disciplined. Still, Jexin and Crux were brought up in the creche, but with heavy involvement from their parents. He was a very introspective child, and took any stories he heard of tragedy--war, famine, or plague, for example--as something that needed to be fixed or prevented. His home was not a difficult place, but he grew fond of hearing tales from other places. Perhaps some of his goal-orientation was around pure ambition, wanting to lead and justifying it however he saw fit; but some of it was because he saw shadows behind every light, saw the dark parts of human nature. Meaning, of course, he was generally bitter and pretentious in his relationships. Overall, Jexin had a normal upbringing, and at 15, the weyrbrat became a candidate. At 15, at his first hatching, he Impressed to a handsome brown.
Weyrlinghood was challenging but rewarding. Jexin was a hard worker, and Hayutoth took flight to fight thread, the pair excelled. He got few threadfall injuries, and the only major one he got was from falling firestone that broke his nose badly. Crux, on their part, was excited to Impress and join their brother, but as time went on, Crux grew more bitter. Jexin could tell that Crux resented them, but he tried to maintain a close relationship regardless. The siblings had a bit of a rocky history, especially as Crux neared the end of their candidacy. Just before Crux aged out, they Impressed to a white dragon.
When Benden's cruelty around Wyzeth was revealed, Jexin's worldview was validated: there was evil everywhere in the world, and it would need to be removed or prevented.
Jexin had hoped for a position as weyrleader, but the weyrwoman's gold was mated consistently with a blue. He thought long and hard about where he would want to transfer to, and when Z'osh took over Fort--and then was kicked out--Jexin was intrigued by the sudden power vacuum. New positions were made, and there was no weyrleader at all. Although Z'osh was technically still a fixture of Fort in Early Summer, 2771, Jexin transferred to Fort, looking for new opportunities that weren't afforded to him at Telgar. A better chance of leadership, a power vacuum...a weyr that needed him to fix it, unlike Telgar. It sounded perfect. He could save the weyr from Z'osh's oppressive grasp, and rise in ranks once Z'osh was out of the way.
He didn't wait for Crux to graduate weyrlinghood, but there was the understanding that Crux would follow him when they could, and that is exactly what Crux did.
