Hollow
"God returned with the moth chained to his hand
"There's so many things that you'll never understand…
So come to me, we can change night into day.
You'll hold my hand so you'll never go astray."
God devoured that of father
A spider preaching with poison on its lips
"To get out of here is to promise me a kiss"
The abandonment of scenery in the
Mind of Mother"
- "Honey I'm Home' - Ghost

FULL APPEARANCE:
Hollow is a tall, lanky, and very imposing figure. They move rather quietly, and because they prefer to not speak, they often take people by surprise. They wear dark colored robes, often wearing the clothing until they are frayed and tattered, patching things up instead of getting new clothes. They have wavy, somewhat messy brown hair, and a beard they try to keep somewhat respectable. Their face is long, their eyes bright. They are very expressive, trying to be sure they can communicate properly if someone is not familiar with PSL, which is their preferred way to communicate. It is not that they cannot speak, but they prefer not to as they have never really been comfortable with their own voice. Emergencies and important occasions warrant speech. Hollow is also prone to illness, catching whatever flu is going around quicker than most.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Hollow is a protective, dutiful brownrider. They will give their lives for the Weyr on a moment's notice, but their siblings will always come first. They would move Hornet and Knight immediately if the Weyr made moves against them, or if they felt it was unsafe. They only want what is best for them, and tries not to hinder them too much unless they think they are making a poor choice that will be harmful. They are a friendly sort, if one can get past their tall and silent nature. They are not as scary as they look, and they try to convey this by assisting in the kitchens or infirmary when they have a moment to, hoping to endear themselves to the staff and prove that they are not someone to worry about.
Unfortunately, Hollow is a chronic insomniac. With an irrational fear and hatred of dreaming, they try to stay awake for as long as possible, pushing the limits on what they can endure, in an effort to avoid dreaming. This has lead to them missing drills, or being clumsy when drilling, ending in minor injuries, save for a few incidents that have caused more. . Their somniphobia is so powerful that it scares them more than anything else, and despite being disciplined for it there has been little improvement. They know it is a problem, but the fear is almost too much to bear.
HISTORY
FAMILY: P'ale of Bronze Kingmouth (deceased), Abisally (drudge mother)
Hornet (younger half-sister)
Knight (younger brother)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: No
BIRTHPLACE: High Reaches Weyr
HISTORY:
Hollow was...
A quiet child. Born in the dead of winter, to an absent father and a drudge mother, Hollow was never really one to make friends. Preferring to speak via Pern Sign Language (unless in emergencies), Hollow kept to themselves through their youth in the creche, finding that it was better to make themselves useful. Though they were friendly enough and stayed out of trouble, there was an occasional scuffle when one or two of their peers would try to goad them into speaking, and they were steadfast in their preference to use PSL instead.
Their father showed an unusual interest in them being a rider, hoping to fast-track them to a bronze as early as possible. They were shown to every hatching, told to focus only on the bronze dragonets, to immortalize them in their mind.
Their younger siblings were born barely two turns after they started standing, finding their partner in a black Brown, who tore his way across the sands to them. They were 17, hearing the uproar of this black beast in the stands. But their father insisted this was a boon, having argued his case to Weyrleadership. Hollow was spared, mostly. Weyrlinghood was hardly a walk in the park, and by graduation Hollow found themselves taking on both the responsibility of a mutation rider, and trying to ensure someone was there for Hornet and Knight.
During this time, their fear of dreaming grew and grew like an infection. They soon were staying up for days on end, missing drills. It culminated in a disaster in Threadfall, causing the death of their wingmate, and injury of another, as they could not focus enough on Bysalth and crashed into two other dragons. They were punished, grounded for a full Turn save for disasters, and yet the problem did not get better.
Hollow scraped and fought for every scrap they could get, holding the line to try to ensure that both of them would have a happier life. When the Weyr fell after the senselessness and war, Hollow took the opportunity to take them both to Fort Weyr, somewhere more peaceful and quiet. Of course, the peace never really lasted. Through the trials and tribulations facing the Weyr, from Ista and Benden meddling, through Nornth, through the coup attempt, Hollow determined that their duty was to their siblings first, and the Weyr second. None have called them on it thus far, and they intend to keep it that way.
