Asami is light-skinned, with wide, narrow eyes of light green and a noble’s nose. Her face is oval-shaped, and she frequently wears a fetching shade of rose-red lip colour on her lips. Her long black hair is lush and full, falling over her shoulders in wavy locks to her mid-back whenever it’s not tied back in hairstyles such as a ponytail or a loose braid, for example.
She often wears well-fitting, nicely tailored outfits, usually in various shades of browns, grays, and blacks, with the occasional pops of red clothing. Asami always looks so polished; she’d probably even manage to make a outfit made wholly from an grain sack look good! Not that she’d wear a scratchy sack, but the point stands.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
A caring and sweet young woman, Asami is also independent and very much capable of fending for herself in difficult circumstances. Don’t let that pretty face of hers fool you; not only is Asami an intelligent and practical thinker—she is good at some games and activities involving methodological strategy—but she also has a tough side. Asami will stand up for what she believes in.
In fact, Asami is so tough that she is often quick to judge—frequently going with whatever her first impressions or gut feeling/emotional response is, without asking for or seeing the full picture first—and she can hold a HELL of a grudge. Some grudges are so epic, in fact, that sharp-tongued Asami is capable of remaining mad at you for literally Turns. Think of the ultimate grudge: the cold shoulder, silent treatment, etc, not to mention the sheer righteous fury, and then multiply that by ten. Especially if it involves being betrayed, or her friends and family getting threatened, for example.
Asami is not above injuring another person and/or risking her own life to save that of her loved ones, although she will not intentionally seek to inflict fatal harm on purpose. Asami is loyal to a fault, especially toward her loved ones and the people in her life that she values. Also, she likes runnerbeasts.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
- father
- mother (deceased)
- Any other family members…
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Korra of Blue Raavath (girlfriend)
BIRTHPLACE: Ruatha
HISTORY:
(Trigger warning: brief mention of plague and mother’s death)
Born and raised in Ruatha, Asami is an only child.
She has vague memories of a Threadfree life, as she was about age 6-9 when the 10th Pass began and the Interval War ended. Asami had a pretty ordinary childhood, up until the summer when plague struck the entirety of Pern. Unfortunately, her mother was one of its victims, passing away soon after. Asami and her father grieved for a long time, eventually moving into a different holding to escape the painful memories of that summer.
Turns later, Asami began to take an interest in runnerbeast racing, often venturing out—sometimes with her father in tow—to watch the Ruathan races. She developed a crush on one of the jockeys—whom she had never met—and so she would constantly make sure to go out of her way to see as many of his races as she could. On one such occasion, Asami was avidly watching an race, and accidentally bumped into a bluerider.
That was the day Asami first met feisty, fiery Korra—of Blue Raavath—and the two young women quickly became fast friends. Especially upon discovering they both had a crush on the same jockey! Soon after, Asami began encountering Korra at almost every racing event she went to, and they soon became the best of friends; sharing moments of laughter and making silly bets with each other over which runnerbeast would win, and wandering through the festivities in between races. Their fangirl crushes on the non-Ruathan jockey soon faded away naturally, as the seasons rolled out and left in its endless, relentless dance, the Turns rolling on. Many memories were made, and countless letters sent and received in between meetings.
Asami even had the chance to meet Raavath; it was her greatest memory, as the blue dragon had astonished both Asami and Korra by proclaiming Asami’s potentiality as a Candidate, to one day become a rider—or a wherhandler, should her path go that way—in her own right, if she wanted it. Korra grinned crookedly at her, and that was the moment Asami accepted her Candidacy with delight. And it was quite possibly the same moment Asami had started to fall hard for Korra…
And so Asami entered Candidacy, settling into the new routine at Fort Weyr. Clutches came and went, Asami being passed up each time, but the young woman didn’t really mind. She could wait forever as far as she was concerned… A match would happen one day, but in the meantime Asami liked to spend some of her free time with Korra.
When Z’osh took full control of Fort Weyr in early Turn 2771, Asami unsuccessfully attempted to talk Korra out of leaving temporarily in protest, but what could she do? She was still only a Candidate, after all, and Korra was a rider. And so Korra departed for another Weyr on Raavath, and Asami did her best to stay in touch. She wrote letter after letter, rambling about everything, keeping her new-found love informed of events in Fort. And she read, in her free time, the letters she received from Korra.
One letter in particular informed her of Korra and Raavath’s career-ending injuries in Threadfall not long after they’d left Fort, with all of its staggering implications. Poor Korra. Asami’s aching heart went out to her and Raavath, though she understood Korra needed time to recover, time to figure things out. Asami kept writing letters, staying by Korra’s side in spirit, even if she wasn’t there physically.
Later that Turn, Z’osh’s reign was forcibly ended. Asami wrote to Korra of this news, hoping that would cheer her up a little bit. Fort Weyr was still in chaos, but hey, at least the guy that Korra had taken such exception to was no longer here, right? Another Turn went by, with Asami keeping Korra as up to date as she could in between the Candidate lessons, the chores, and Standing for clutches.
It had been almost three Turns. Asami continued to hope, day after day, season after season, that Korra and Raavath would soon be healed enough to finally return home.
