HEIGHT AND BUILD: 6’10, tall and holds himself like a king
FULL APPEARANCE:
Dusleros has a regal stance to him, and his clothing is always as immaculate as he can have it at any given moment. He never had his hair down while he’s working, and will often work on keeping it from getting tangled and messy when he’s in a more social but not work related setting. The only exception is when he’s practicing mind healing in the comfort of an interior space.
He prefers wearing comfortable clothing as opposed to what’s practical when he’s not actually riding. When he is riding, he makes sure to wear eyewear since he’s pretty sensitive to high winds as far as his eyes go.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
If there were proper kings on Pern, Dusleros would want to be one.
He is quite interested in his self-image and how others perceive him. His attitude is somewhat aloof, and somewhat dreamy in some ways, as if he’s off thinking about things that he’d rather be doing. He can be silly and almost ridiculous when he’s not immediately working, thinking he sounds profound but really he’s just throwing words together.
He can be just the slightest bit snobbish around his fellow healers, often inserting advice and comments where they’re not needed, is a notorious gossip, and finds quite a few people attractive. He loves hearing juicy details about those around him, and loves being the biggest flirt to where his dragon will need to pull him back.
This however, does not transfer over to his ‘working with patients’ mindset.
He listens to his patients quite intently, writing everything down and only interrupting them with questions as needed. He specializes in self-esteem issues, as he sees the beauty in everyone, regardless of who they are. He’s the guy you go to when you need a pick-me-up and you just need to feel good about yourself. Of course, Dusleros works his hardest to help his patients with whatever mental affliction they might have, regardless of the source. He will stay up all night with a patient, and never turns away a patient unless he genuinely thinks he cannot help them with their issue. He will do only after genuinely trying to assist without success, and will always recommend another mindhealer with personal commentary as to how the other mindhealer might be able to help.
Intra-weyr politics only interest him as far as gossip and fodder for talk. He doesn’t support tyrants, and keeps a close eye on how things progress… He’s always snooping around for more gossip fodder, and can often be more than a little intrusive as far as his questions go. But he knows when to back off, and that’s how he’s stayed alive for so long.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Junsoon ( Father, Healer )
Termena ( Mother, Healer )
BIRTHPLACE: Telgar Weyr
HISTORY:
He grew up with so many expectations.
The child of two talented Healers, he was expected to follow in their footsteps and take up medicine. Granted, he wanted that too, and gladly took up apprenticeship as soon as possible. Of course, despite all this, he still started showing an interest in dragons. He wanted to be a Candidate, and his parents agreed, if only because they believed that he wouldn’t Impress and have to continue the craft he was born into.
Balancing Candidacy and Apprenticeship was rough. Dusleros was under quite a bit of stress, but found Candidacy was a lot easier after having done it for a few Turns. His biggest concern was that he found it harder than most to focus on the actual health aspect of Healer work. Blood and phlegm and other bodily fluids made him squirm, and it was affecting his work.
His parents were displeased, but a friend of their suggested their child go into Mindhealing. He would still have to complete the needed courses to graduate, but he would have more of an emphasis on helping those with mental health issues rather than physical ones. They were both wary, but accepting that as long as Dusleros kept a job among the Healer craft, it was fine.
With his life sailing towards a comfortable job helping ailing and stressed weyrfolk, his gaze turned to his life as a Candidate. He was close enough to graduating, at the age of 22, and he really, desperately wanted to ride a dragon. But of course, he had grown by then. He knew that life might not send him a dragon, and he could certainly still do his job. It was something he’d have to come to terms with, and by the time he was a journeyman at age 23, he’d made peace with the idea.
Of course, life was full of surprises.
Soon after graduating to Journeyman status, he stood in for a Hatching, and was given the most wonderful little brown. Runth was the love of his life, a caring and gentle creature who’s demeanor perfectly fit in with his own.
Learning to ride properly was a challenge, and Dusleros was not the overly athletic type. Nor was Runth one with a strong constitution. Runth lived up to hi name, as he was a bit runty for a brown and Dusleros looked silly trying to ride him while still in the awkward phase between dragonet and dragon. But despite their struggles, they both worked through it, encouraging each other and eventually working their way to being actual proper riders.
Once he was settled and more capable rider, he moved to High Reaches to get away from his parents’ oppressive shadows. There were bigger, more oppressive shadows to deal with where he was going, and he felt he was ready to help.
Of course, High Reaches had just ousted a less than kind leader, and a lot of the residents were... more than a little traumatized. It would be a challenge for Dusleros to help them, but he was more than willing to work as hard as he could to do so. Now that he had a little more breathing room age-wise, he was able to settle in and start work on his actual job. There was more than enough work for everyone, and an outside outlook might help those who had only known tyranny to cope.
