FULL APPEARANCE:
Short for a man, Edward has worked to compensate for his diminutive stature by honing his strength. Though he could not make himself any taller, he worked to become lean and powerful in his own right. Though not bulky in muscle, he has the agile form of a fighter, built for speed and dexterity rather than raw force.
He wears his blond hair long, often tied back and sometimes braided, with bangs that constantly hang into his face. Piercing golden-brown eyes peek out beneath the overhanging hair, often burning with all the intensity of emotion that one can fit into such a compact package.
A wicked scar runs across his right shoulder, and another on his left thigh, memories of a serious, but not permanently debilitating, injury many years prior. Long since healed, they are nonetheless hard to miss, and often kept covered by his clothing to prevent prying eyes. He prefers long sleeves and trousers over anything else, even when the heat of the sun makes such clothing nearly unbearable.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Practically the poster child for Napoleon complex, Edward is constantly aware of his size and forever trying to compensate for it. Any perceived slight can set him off into a tirade about how he's not really that small, and he will make sure anybody who suggests otherwise gets a lesson they won't soon forget.
Though he doesn't usually seek out fights, his volatile temper when insulted can result in fits of rage that soon become a brawl, and he is a formidable fighter despite his height. Once his emotions have broken loose, he does not hold back until someone physically holds him back, sometimes going too far and breaking a nose before having to be removed from the situation. He has only narrowly avoided getting himself into a deadly duel, and a brawl during wherlinghood nearly got him expelled. The thought of losing the bronze companion was what sobered him up, and he has tried to temper his emotions better, though Warsk helps him more with that than anything.
He has a brooding side as well, and a deep sense of regret involving the death of his younger brother years before.
Despite his mostly-tough show that he puts on, Edward has a secret fear of Healers and will especially avoid anything involving a needle, preferring to tough it out instead. If forced to see a Healer, he might scream like a little girl or plead for mercy, but don't tell anybody. He'll beat you up.
Since bonding with Warsk, he has found that the wher is one of the most effective tools to even his temper, though the bronze sometimes has to use his imposing size to remind his handler that if it comes to Edward's temper vs Warsk's strength, the wher will win. Most of the time it only comes down to a stern reminder, and Edward has tried to work on that side of himself.
Deep down, he is a good man, and a caring one, showing his more vulnerable side only when in the company of those he trusts. He will do anything for those he loves, and is fiercely protective of them when necessary, and gentle when it isn't. He has a decent sense of humor, and he can give a prank just as well as take one. When it comes to women? He can work with them all day but ask him to flirt and he will turn into a mess.
HISTORY
CW: death
FAMILY:
Mother - Trisha
Father - Hohenheim
Brother - Alphonse (Deceased)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: (optional)
BIRTHPLACE: Fort Hold
HISTORY: His father a largely absentee parent, prone to womanizing and wandering off on his own exploits, Edward and his brother were mainly raised by their mother. She maintained a small garden and orchard that she would sell crops from to support herself and her boys. Chronically ill, she was prone to fainting fits that scared the life out of her sons, but have not so far seemed actually dangerous.
Edward was a curious child from the beginning, and loved to explore and discover. It was on an adventure when he was 12, and his brother 10, that he learned the dangers that can come with curiosity. While exploring a cliffside cave, an unstable ceiling became a collapsing one. Alphonse was killed, while Edward was trapped, pinned by his right arm and left leg. He was rescued in time to save his limbs, but left with a lifelong guilt over his decision to explore the caves, and the scars to serve as a permanent reminder of his perceived mistake.
Once he was healed, he turned to strengthening his body in any way possible. He wouldn't let anybody he loved be hurt again. He trained as a duelsman, with his mother's reluctant support, and became as skilled with his fists as many men were with a knife, which he also wielded well.
Once he turned sixteen he worked at a firestone mine, hauling sacks to be transported up to the Weyr. It was during a delivery to the Weyr two years later that he met a bronzehandler and was unexpectedly invited to stand for a wher clutch due to hatch. Thinking it an interesting experience if nothing else, Edward agreed. What he didn't expect was for the largest egg in the clutch to be presented to him by the gold, which split to reveal a bulky bronze. It would make sense for the shortest man in that chamber to be chosen for the largest wher.
With Warsk now his bonded, Edward now trained dutifully as a member of the ground crew, only now he had a companion for life and another reason for people to comment on his size. Warsk is not opposed to sitting on his handler though to keep him in check if necessary. Since bonding with the wher, when not on duties, Edward has taken a keen interest in studying whatever he can get his hands on, and Warsk encourages him as when he's learning, he's not having himself a hissy fit. Though he'll read anything he comes across, he seems to have a particular interesting in smithing and herbalism. He's always looking for a way to be a more efficient part of his crew, though any modifications he thinks of have to go through the mastersmith and his squadleader first. Still, he's shown himself eager and ready to learn, and with a more evened temper. Usually.
