Valencio is one that can most definitely catch the eye. While he stands at an impressive height of 7' even, his build remains lean and lithe. Blonde hair falls in waves over his head, curling at the ends; his eyes the color of the surface of the Weyr Lake. Valencio prefers to wear dark leathers with supple knee-length boots even when off-duty, paired with a modest white undershirt. When Thread falls, he dons all the protective gear available; there'll be no chances taken.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Valencio is an extremely friendly and personable individual. Very easygoing, it's rather easy to get along with him. Rarely will he hold a poor opinion of someone else, unless they do something massive to warrant it. Yet when he does decide that someone is bad news, he takes great pains to keep himself and those he loves away from them. It's for their protection! Valencio views himself as one of the two protectors of his family, alongside his father, being the firstborn son. This view and subsequent behavior extends to those Valencio considers family. What Valencio calls "protection," others might call "smothering" or "overprotection." While this is never Valencio's intention, there are times that his need to care for those he loves simply grows out of control; becomes too great.
When things are out of order or in disarray, Valencio can hardly contain the urge within him to straighten everything up. Regardless of the items in question or who these items belong to, he will rarely leave until everything is neat and tidy once more. This particularly extends to his private space, which he now shares with weyrmate Gallifrey. Valencio is unsure exactly why he feels the way he does about messes and disorder, but it is a trait firmly ingrained within him. If there's a mess that Valencio somehow had a hand in, he can become quite distraught. Additionally, Valencio has a bit of a reckless side to him. Life is an adventure, and it pays to be daring at times. Yet Valencio is often too daring. Should someone dare him to do something or other as a test of bravery or whatnot, it's a rare thing for Valencio to refuse.
It's quite clear that Valencio loves whers, and absolutely adores his own Ciosk. There's nothing wrong with dragons...but he simply wasn't meant to soar so high above the ground and fight Thread firsthand. In truth, he finds dragons mildly intimidating in comparison to whers, but he will rarely admit this - so as not to offend anyone. Valencio is very much a down-to-earth fellow, deep within. Beneath his nature as a chatterbox and a neat freak, he thoroughly enjoys the comforts of hearth and home. There's nothing better than spending time with his family and/or his lover - not to mention their whers! - and Valencio finds himself missing these comforts when kept away for too long. Always glad to share what he knows, it can be hard to get him to be quiet! Likewise, Valencio loves to learn new things - especially if it can make him a better wherhandler.

SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Gallifrey of Garnet Gallisk
BIRTHPLACE: Fort Weyr
HISTORY:
The firstborn son of wherhandler Cior and weyrfolk Valentine, Valencio was both deeply loved and cherished. Well, by his mother, at least. Cior was always a little distant toward his son, with his duties as a wherhandler being a looming priority. The love Cior bore for his son seemed...muted; hard to see, at the very least. The rearing of the boy was primarily left to Valentine, and she did her job well. Even with an aloof father, growing up around the huge wrinkled brown Ciorsk left little Valencio with an affection for whers, even as glorious dragons roamed the skies above.
As time passed, Valencio grew from a boy to a young man, and his love of whers never waned nor wavered for even an instant. When the dawn of his seventeenth birthday came, it found Valencio volunteering for whercandidacy. Sure, dragons seemed interesting and all...but he decided he'd leave that for those interested. What he wanted was to be a wherhandler, like his father and the other wherhandlers of the barracks. Yet no egg was ever rolled to him by any mother at any hatching he attended. This disheartened him...for a time. Then he remembered that the option to purchase a wher egg remained available to those who did not Impress, provided they had the marks.
And that's exactly what Valencio did.
Saving up his marks seemed to take an eternity, but Valencio - aged eighteen Turns - set aside the funds he needed to purchase a wher egg of his very own. When the time was at last right, he set out to find a wher egg, requesting transport to Southern Boll. There, he located a stand that sold the precious eggs, and after haggling for a brief time, Valencio walked away with his prize: a small wher egg, with a pale bloom emblazoned over the shell. It didn't take long at all for the egg to begin hatching, and Valencio hastened home. In the welcoming quiet of his barrack, the egg hatched, allowing a small white wherlet to peer at the world about them. Valencio cemented the bond between them, and the white introduced themselves: Ciosk.
Valencio entered wherling classes with his Ciosk at his side like they were a gift from Faranth herself. And to him, they were. Such a quiet and steadfast companion, deeply attuned to the emotions of even those not their bonded. Valencio was filled with such joy; he considered himself the luckiest man alive to be bonded to such a creature. Even when an accident early in his wherling training left Valencio bedridden in the Infirmary, it hardly brought him down. Instead, Valencio regards it as the best thing that ever happened to him, aside from his bonding to his Ciosk.
But why would someone consider getting hurt and restricted to the Infirmary a good thing? Here, it was where Valencio met his future weyrmate: Gallifrey. Striking up a conversation with the bright and vibrant Gallifrey was easy to do, and it seemed they never stopped! Nor would Valencio want to stop. As Gallifrey inquired as to the knots upon Valencio's shoulder, he was glad - even proud - to share that he wore the knots of a white wherling. With no-one inclined to stop him, Valencio shared everything about his adventure so far, putting quite a bit of detail into how he came to be Ciosk's bonded. Valencio might have talked well into the daylight hours, if he'd been permitted to.
After recovering from his injury with no lasting effects, Valencio dove back into wherlinghood with his Ciosk at his side. When news came that Gallifrey too had gathered up his marks and purchased a wher egg - thus bonding to his garnet Gallisk and joining the ranks of wherlings - Valencio was utterly overjoyed! Surprised, yes, but so very happy! Together, they learned and advanced as wherlings. Graduation seemed close at hand...and it was, for Valencio! As he joined the ranks of the fully fledged wherhandlers, Valencio got to watch from afar as Gallifrey too completed his wherling training and graduated.
To celebrate the occasion of their graduations - and to simply treat his dear friend - Valencio acquired a flit egg and gifted it to Gallifrey. The egg proceeded to yield a bright bronze for Gallifrey, and the little thing was dubbed Apollo - much to Valencio's delight. It was shortly after their graduations that Valencio's feelings for Gallifrey began to change. Things seemed to simply...evolve between them. Not only was Gallifrey Valencio's closest friend - aside from his white Ciosk - but he came to occupy a special place in Valencio's heart. Warmth and intense affection would wash over Valencio when he thought of Gallifrey. At last, he could bear it no longer and he reached out to Gallifrey...only to find that Gallifrey felt the same for Valencio.
After a conversation with quite a bit of flustered pauses, Valencio and Gallifrey became weyrmates with the sunrise. Valencio remains over-the-moon with his elation, and prepares to face the future with a smile; with beloved Gallifrey and Ciosk at his sides.
