FULL APPEARANCE:
Moriarty is a big woman. Her height alone can strike fear into some. She takes good care of her hair, usually down to her back but when summer comes or starts to be a nuisance she’ll cut it down to her cheeks. Moriarty is a beauty with black hair that shines in the sun and lovely olive eyes. She has sharp features with a sort of cuteness and softness to them.
Moriarty treasures being clean, she dislikes going on about her life if she has not conducted her routine of a good wash to get the weekly filth off. Besides being clean, Moriarty loves dressing to impress. Whether it’s the new bachelor that Riask is pushing her towards or just a normal day, she’ll dress with her philosophy of being pretty but it must be functional. With this, she makes sure she's ready for the day and whatever it brings.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
In a few words, Moriarty is a take-no-shit person. She doesn't tolerate nonsense and expects everyone around her to be as efficient and effective as she is. Moriarty is an analytical woman, she enjoys breaking down complex problems into smaller, more manageable ones. She is a master strategist and can make tough decisions in the heat of the moment.
However, her analytical nature more than often projects as her being cold and distant. She isn't one to often show her emotions openly and often keeps to herself except for Riask, Jarri, and anyone she deems worthy. She is very ambitious, always looking for ways to better herself and achieve more in life. She will never be satisfied with mediocrity and always strives for excellence.
Moriarty can also be short-tempered and quick to violence unless Riask or her mother intervenes. She has a fiery temper that can flare up at the slightest provocation, and she is not afraid to use force to get her way. However, her violent tendencies are a sign of her loyalty to those she cares about. She will defend her loved ones with everything she has, and she will not back down from a fight.
Moriarty keeps her cards close to her chest so it's not very easy to tell where her true loyalties lie. When in reality it's to her wher, the Weyr, and Jarri but it is hard to tell which individuals it is that she truly trusts

HISTORY:
Being the product of an affair, Moriarty did not have an easy start to life. Her mother handed her off to her father so that she would not be a burden to her. Zi’nen, a bronze rider, took her back with him to High Reaches. Moriarty was a constant reminder of his affair, it put a strain on Zi’nen’s relationship and simply handed her off to the crèche as soon as he could. Jarri, a young lady who had lost her children, took her in and raised Moriarty as her own daughter. The two would go on to consider each other true mother and daughter.
Moriarty and Zi’nen had close contact growing up. There were downsides to this, Zi'nen was a Traditionalist and followed Golre blindly. He only wanted his daughter to impress a Gold dragon while Moriarty had other plans, she wished to be among whers. Against her wishes, Zi'nen forbade it because as the saying went, "Beware a woman with a wher" and he believed Moriarty was worth more than the brutality of the whers. He was a rather large and frightening man, and he knew this, so he used his threats to manipulate her into standing for dragon clutches.
She started to stand at the age of 15 and the years seemed to pass slowly. No hatchling ever came close to her as those years passed. Chromatic or not, she didn't want the creature, she wanted a wher. When she hit 24, Zi'nen became more verbal with his abuse, insulting her. He almost made her believe she would not be useful to the weyr without a dragon. It was only thanks to Jarri that Moriarty kept herself from lashing out at her father. Then tension started to grow in High Reaches, the "Battle of The Weyrbowl" made her think and she knew she had to leave the weyr soon before they were all killed in a battle.
Then war was declared.
With the weyrleader dead and the threat of battles at their doorstep, Moriarty decided it was time to leave her home.
It was only right she said farewell to her father. She had made a deal with some riders who would help her leave with them to Telgar Weyr during the night quietly. Zi'nen was furious, he would not allow her to leave her home, and he called her pathetic and a coward. Moriarty snapped and lashed out at her father, it ended up with the two exchanging blows. It would have escalated until Wodarth, Zi'nen's bronze, warbled and told his rider to let the girl go. And so Moriarty and Jarri left High Reaches that Spring.
Moriarty steered clear of the war and the two women began a new chapter in Teglar Weyr. Jarri wanted to leave the weyr and start a new life at a Hold, while Moriarty wanted to stay, considering a life in a Hold dull. The pair were treated with suspicion at first, prompting Jarri to insist on leaving but once again Moriarty refused arguing they would be treated with suspicion no matter where they went due to them being from High Reaches. So Jarri and Moriarty stayed, making themselves useful as Weyrfolk to show those were really their true intentions.
Life in Telgar was much more pleasant for the two women after the attack. They lived simply as weyrfolk but Moriarty was yet to impress a wher, Jarri knew her daughter was longing to have a life partner and bought her a wher egg from some caravans passing by. She was overjoyed with the egg, it hatched on a cold Winter night. The garnet muzzle appeared, then the wherling tumbled out of its egg onto her lap. She smeared her blood on the little one and amazing joy filled her heart. Riask was there to stay with her, by her side, forever.
Riask and Moriarty were the dream team as wherlings, quickly becoming synchronized with each other. Moriarty enjoyed her freedom, and with the cheery Riask, she would never feel alone ever again. Riask grew slender and agile, matched with Moriarty's ambitious and strategic nature, allowing the two to become overachievers. After graduating, they joined the ground crews.
When Jarri asked her to run errands around the Weyr, Moriarty met a rider, N'thenal, and his blue Wedrnth. The two instantly got along together and became best of friends, they depended on each other, spent their free time together, and took care of each other. Not long passed until they realized they were in love and (thanks to Riask constantly shoving Moriarty in his direction) they were able to get together. Riask would try to be bigger than Wedrnth, the wher and dragon got along fairly well as well.
Everything was just perfect, Moriarty had a Weymate, a friend for life, and a place she belonged in. That is until threadfall took Wedrnth, the blue got fatally injured trying to protect N'thenal leaving him dragonless. She tried to take care of him, but it was like N'thenal was hollow, part of him gone. It hurt her to see him like this and it tore her apart when she was informed that he had taken his own life.
Everything in Telgar reminded her of him, if she stayed then she would dwell in her sadness for the rest of her life. Riask recommended leaving to Fort, a place near her home yet far away enough to not bring up memories of her father. Jarri supported the decision and transferred with the pair to Fort Weyr for Moriarty needed lots of motherly love.
From then on, Moriarty has never loved another. Riask's efforts to find her another love have been futile as she refuses to have more than one date with them, using the excuse that she doesn't like them. Truthfully, she wishes not to get hurt again for she believes her heart would not be able to take it.

- THREADFALL - Early Spring 2775: Moriarty is standing a bit too close to a burrow as she uses her flamethrower, and winds up burning her right hand (Moderate). Riask gets her right wingsail snagged on a sharp rock, badly tearing it when she suddenly has to move away (Major).
