FULL APPEARANCE: Sere is a petite young woman, standing at 5’ even. She has a curvy build, paired with a natural softness about her body. Her face, similarly, is soft: a round jawline pairs with plain, feminine features. Her hair is mostly straight, but with a slight wave near the bottom, raven black in color. It nearly reaches her hips. Although she often wears it down, she occasionally pulls it back in styles varying from simple ponytails to elaborate braids. Her skin is pale, paired with mid-tone blue eyes. She enjoys pretty, ladylike clothing, albeit with a preference for practicality.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Sere is a traditionalist, the kind who has made that into their entire identity. She believes that bronze and gold riders are naturally superior, and thus, can do no wrong. She’s not entirely sure what to do when these groups don’t agree, and will side with whatever voice sounds the most authoritative. To those who outrank her, Sere is a suckup, often feeling–and acting–as though she is inherently inferior in every way. However, to those she thinks she outranks–like the kitchen workers–or those of equal rank, she is arrogant, acting like she is better than them. She can certainly be both condescending and demeaning, though she changes her tune when someone of high rank walks by. She vacillates between being overly confident to insecure, depending on who she is speaking with. She claims she is destined for a gold, and thus, acts accordingly, though she does not view herself as positively as she seems to.
She’s insecure, often externalizing this as bullying those she sees as less “deserving” than her. The inferior people, like younger candidates, unskilled laborers, even some chromatic riders or handlers. It makes her feel better about herself, to avoid turning inward, where she fears she would find nothing of substance, nothing of worth. Sere is a natural follower, tending to be a bit cowardly. She’s all bark and no bite–if push comes to shove, she’ll back down, but only in a way that salvages her dignity. She is proud, very focused on how others view her, and not about to be seen as weak or lesser or undeserving…even if that’s how she views herself.
In many ways, she isn't the brightest. In fact, Sere is a bit dumb. That’s one reason why she relies on others to tell her what to do. She has no sense of ambition, and if she realized what a goldrider’s life was actually like, she might reconsider. She may be responsible and reliable, but she is also uncertain, unable to act without being led by someone she deems smarter and more powerful than her. She is surprisingly dutiful, though she refuses to compromise her pride when someone who has no “right” to order her around does so, even if in an informal setting.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
-Father (Steward at a minor hold under Fort)
-Mother (holdfolk at a minor hold under Fort)
-Sister (holdfolk at a minor hold under Fort, +2 years)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: (optional)
BIRTHPLACE: Minor Hold under Fort territory
HISTORY:
Sere was born in 2749. Her father, the steward of a minor hold under Fort’s territory, had one child prior to her. Sere idolized her older sister. Both children were raised to be ladylike and proper, with manners and typical holdfolk sensitivities. The importance of rank and hierarchy was impressed upon them at a young age.
But Sere? She dreamed of dragons. Sure, there was war. Sure, there were problems. But dragonriders were noble anyways. Even Vizeth and Golre! She often looked to the skies, wishing that she, too, could join their ranks. She admired them, but doubted she could ever be one. Instead, she simply lived a comfortable yet dull life…until she was 15.
In 2764, Sere was searched. Her sister, however, wasn’t. When choosing between her family, her life of moderate luxury, her sister…or dragonriding, the choice felt, unfortunately, obvious. She bid her family farewell, ready to join Fort Weyr.
When she arrived, she immediately generalized her holdfolk ranking system to the weyrs. Greenriders–or candidates she deemed worthy of only green–were the lowest, with only whiteriders beneath them. Bronze and gold were approximately on par–one for men, and one for women. From the moment she stepped foot in the weyr, she bragged about her plans to Impress gold.
But time and time again, she was slighted. No queen, no Impression at all. She barely paid garnet clutches any mind, of course, but every gold clutch caused her breath to catch. Surely, a gold? Something befitting a lady. A prestigious lady. So that no one (meaning mostly herself) would question her worth ever again.
The gold who snubbed her most recently for a shy candidate laid a clutch in 2774, one with a blue sire. Clearly, there will be a gold egg. She hopes. (She's too holdbred to know better.)
