HAIR: Blonde
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 5’4, not as skinny as Reign but still pretty skinny
FULL APPEARANCE:
Deviya could certainly be considered cute.
She has long wavy hair, big bright blue eyes and a youthful flush to her cheeks. The former Holdless keeps herself looking clean and presentable, not to try and hide her past but to accent how far she’s come. She takes full advantage of being able to bathe when she wants, and makes sure she looks good when she needs to. She’s not at all adverse to getting dirty though, and doesn’t shy away from getting messy.
She’s not quite as curvy as most girls, and has no problem with it. She can be a little rough and tumble, and usually has a bruise or two on her. Her hair is always kept up in a braid so she can work without issue, and will sometimes wear a cloth headband to keep hair out of her eyes while studying.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Deviya’s a sweetheart, but plays a few different parts as needed. She can be the innocent waif, the frightened refugee, or the chipper classmate. But ultimately, she keeps to herself when she can, as she’s still working through preconceived notions regarding Weyrfolks. It’s something she’s not exactly proud of but knows it’s just something she needs to handle. She enjoys learning and works as hard as she can on her Candidacy work so she can be ready for the day she Impresses. She’s extra motivated now that Reign has impressed, and pours over as much dragon related material as she can.
Her new, more 'civilized' life is still strange and new to her, despite all the time she’s spent there. While she prefers not to get into fights, she will not hesitate to fight back if anyone starts getting on her case. She can fight barehanded or with weapons, and will not hesitate to come to the defense of people she cares about. This goes double for her brother. He doesn’t always need her help but she won’t hesitate to step in regardless. After her rough start at Fort, Deviya now prides herself in being more versatile and adaptable, and will not complain about the conditions around her even if they become almost unbearable.
Intra-weyr politics are a whole other world to her. She doesn’t care about them, and probably never will if things stay peaceful.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Reiya (mother, alive), Devigne (father, alive), Reign (brother, alive)
BIRTHPLACE: Small cave a fair distance away from Fort
HISTORY:
TW for death
Life was rough for Deviya.
She was born into a Holdless family, who did what they had to survive. Raids were common, and she grew up learning how to lie and steal as needed. She worked closely with Reign, her brother, as well as her parents when they let her. While Reign worked the crowds, being himself and attracting attention, she and a few others would steal what they could carry. Of course, there were a few close calls, but they never were ACTUALLY caught. Or at least she wasn’t.
Of course, things couldn’t stay this good forever.
She’d messed up and dropped a LOT in an attempt to escape a botched raid. For that, she’d had her life threatened by the leader of the bandits. She knew her parents weren’t going to stop him if he tried anything, and she’d watched people die at his hands. She turned to Reign, her trusted brother, and said that she didn’t want to do this anymore. That she was scared that she might die if she messed up that bad again. Reign was caring enough to take her fear seriously, and they were gone within a night.
They were found by traders, and were taken into their group. Deviya wasn’t quite as good as Reign when it came to the whole ‘convincing people to buy things’ game, but she still managed to pull her weight. While she wasn’t stealing from customers, she was keeping an eye out for anyone trying to sneak off with THEIR goods. Her eyes were sharp, and hearing keen. She managed to sniff out more than a dozen thieves, and earned some respect from her new family.
Eventually, their trader group was visited by a Searching dragonrider. They were both pointed out to be excellent Candidates, but Deviya was frankly a little overwhelmed by the sudden implication. She’d just gotten settled in this home, and she didn’t want to leave. So naturally, Reign wanted to tell the rider they weren’t going anywhere. But the dragon was.. an issue. So they decided that, if they didn’t like it, they’d flee and return to their family.
Of course, they didn’t follow through.
Fort Weyr was plentiful. There was food, soft beds, warm fires and stability. A real life lay before them, not just surviving among the Holdless and traders. And Deviya felt foolish to think of trying to leave. So the pair settled in, and life was good. However, there was still a point in her life where she had to learn that trying to be defensive and that there was no need to hoard or save supplies for herself and Reign. She also struggled with lessons at first, having difficulty reading and writing as well as her fellow Candidates. But she adapted eventually, and soon was almost indistinguishable from her Weyrborn peers.
Eventually, Reign Impressed to the most wonderful green dragon, much to his chagrin. But Deviya ADORED the dragon, and this only spurred her on to keep studying hard in hopes of impressing one of her own.
