FULL APPEARANCE:
Sali's skin is a deep, dark tan. Her hair is dark brown, and her eyes the golden brown of her mother's side. Although she has let her hair grow out to her shoulder blades, it is kept tied back in a messy ponytail at all times--looking more like she tied it up the night before than having done it first thing in the morning. Which... could be entirely true. She doesn't put much stock into how she looks, she's not trying to impress anyone, so as long as her hair is out of her face she doesn't care what it looks like. The fact that she chooses not to cut it often is the one bit of vanity she allows herself.
Her skin is flecked at almost all times with nicks and scratches and bruises, only the worst of which actually get patched up unless they are on her hands (which only get wrapped because, well, you can't use an injured hand quite as easily!). Otherwise, they are left to heal on their own, and as a result she's got more than a handful of scars of varying sizes and shapes, each with a story that definitely sounds made-up and, save for a select few, vary wildly with each telling. That one on her ankle? Definitely from a swarm of biting fish. What? She said it was from firelizards last time? Definitely heard wrong--it was fish.
Clothing and nudity are of less concern, so she tends to wear whatever mish-mash of garments she happens to pull out of her wardrobe. She has a small handful of outfits, likely to give her an ability to change quickly into one that isn't sopping wet or dirty when necessary. Luckily for everyone, time in Weyrs has seen her grow out of the habit of just stripping off her soiled clothes and waiting for them to dry or knocking the dirt off.
Height-wise, she is tall with a sturdy build denoting several Turns spent working hard manual labor aboard a shipping craft--and several more being a general nuisance and climbing anything that was taller than her... or at least trying to. Her bust is modest--not too big, not too small, and generally not paid any attention to.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
If one were to take a tour of the small cothold from which Sali originates and ask the Holdfolk about her, the most common phrases one would hear would surely be "adventurous" and "stubborn." As soon as she was able, Sali began exploring--at first just the cothold, meeting her "extended family" and the shallow salty waters of the Istan island. As her siblings were born, her parents were able to pay less and less attention to her, resulting in even more freedom to go beyond the buildings and into the wilderness. She does have a healthy respect for the dangerous animals--but that doesn't stop her or slow her down in the slightest. She has a record for being quite reckless, getting as close as she can to things she definitely shouldn't just for the sake of experience--and learning, of course! If you don't know what it can do, how can you learn to avoid it?
Something else easily noticed is a restless air about her. She is always moving, even when sitting--bouncing her knee or tapping her fingers, playing with her hair. It's really not due to any negative anxiety--she just has a lot of energy and doesn't always know how to keep it reined in. This largely-positive energy can be contagious, and it's not uncommon for her positive attitude to affect those around her, slowly creeping in and frightening away dour moods like sunshine after rain.
Thanks to growing up in a close-knit community, she has a bad habit of gossiping and oversharing, and may be unintentionally overbearing, especially to those who are shy or withdrawn. Sali is also woefully impulsive, often acting before thinking which, while sometimes good such as in emergencies when one has to act quickly, can also be very, very bad. Like when someone has wronged her and she goes for punching them in the jaw rather than trying to talk to them like a civil person. She also prefers to face problems head-on, and will try to talk to someone rather than hide away from them if she has a problem with them. This can obviously lead to confrontations, both verbal and physical (though she does prefer to use words rather than violence).
Sali is moderately literate, only learning how to read and write properly once being Searched--she has poor penmanship and it takes her longer than average to read.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Mother, Father, 9 younger siblings (12 family members total)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Nameless Cothold near Ista Weyr
HISTORY:
Salihna was born in a small, nameless cothold on the coast of the Ista Weyr island, the settlement located in a small inlet protected from the worst of the ocean storms but still open to saltwater. Thanks to the relative stillness of the water in their inlet, the cothold itself enjoys crystal clear waters, allowing them to see much of the shallow-water aquatic life of Pern. As such, Salihna has learned from a young age a lot about fish... helped along by the fact that the cothold subsists primarily on fishing.
The oldest of what would become a family of twelve, Salihna very quickly found herself with a lot of free time. As soon as she was old enough to be left on her own, she began to explore the cothold and surrounding area. Without a great many threats to their holdings (beyond Threadfall, where they were deemed well protected thanks to their closeness to the Weyr proper) and the tiny community very tightly knit, her parents weren't particularly bothered about letting her explore--which quickly grew into an insatiable love of adventure. Venturing out into the nearby wilderness and swimming in the ocean waters.
Outside of random encounters with wildlife, occasionally being chased off by angry nesting firelizards, and having more than her fair share of scratches and bruises from climbing trees, there weren't a great many grand events in her life. Her family still lives--including her grandparents on both sides and even her maternal great-grandparents, who are full of great sea adventure tales--and even all of her siblings remained in the cothold.
At eleven she joined the fishercrafters on their ships, not a proper Apprentice until a few Turns later, learning to sail and fish both in the calm inlet and the rough seas of the ocean, and at eighteen she advanced to journey(wo)man. Yet for a long while she remained moored in their quiet little settlement, though now joined the ships heading out to the seas proper far more often than staying in their quaint little cove. At just before her seventeenth Turn she bonded to a firelizard after managing to successfully steal away a few eggs from a wild clutch, giving the others to desiring members of her cothold. She was Searched by chance to Ista Weyr at nineteen, transferring to Fort at twenty-two and picking up Beastcraft (considering the difficulty of maintaining a water-based craft in a land-locked Weyr). Thus far she has had no luck Impressing, but remains optimistic.
