FULL APPEARANCE:
A young man with brown hair and blue-green eyes would easily be enough to describe Asch. He has an average build, standing rather short for male-assigned individuals but still with some room to grow as he ages more. His hair is kept long rather than short, the one vanity he affords himself. He often keeps it tied back in a loose tail while working, but may sometimes braid it in the mornings to keep it from catching. His fringe is swept back out of his face, growing in shorter and sometimes messily spiking up near his crown.
Clothing-wise, he dresses nicely and presentably. Nothing fancy, though he does have a spare outfit he keeps pressed and clean for grand occasions.

PERSONALITY:
Asch comes off as a cold and impersonal person. He separates his internal emotions from his external appearance, making him difficult to read. He's also quite prideful, believing himself to be strong enough without assistance from others. Working better alone rather than in a group, it is with some reluctance that he is willing to concede to authority. He doesn't want to make too many waves, but marches to the beat of his own drum and no one else's.
His temper is short and he can lash out when pushed toward his limit, sometimes even hurting those he cares for--intentionally or otherwise. This said, despite his aloof and prideful nature he cares deeply for those around him: those in Hold and Weyr alike.
Once someone has gotten past the cold demeanor, they will find a deeply caring if also equally serious individual. He won't go out of his way to display affections but will not turn someone away. He dislikes frivolous physical contact, so accepting some from someone when not required is a good indication of his level of trust or care.
Being Holdborn, he is slightly more conservative in his general views than someone born in a Weyr.

HISTORY:
Asch is the firstborn son of his parents, a man named Herzog and woman named Shuzan. His brother would be born later, and from the very start Asch disliked him. Growing up, he was often overshadowed by his younger brother, who was prone to causing trouble and getting into accidents of all sorts. While Asch was considered "the good child," it helped to develop his colder side, not wanting to become like his sibling, causing trouble for his parents and making their lives harder.
Other than dealing with his troublemaking brother, Asch had a fairly normal childhood. He learned his parents' farming and had a very basic education, knowing a few minor phrases and being taught to recognize only a handful of written words which might be important for taking over as head of the family. He didn't pursue any craft, the little Hold not sporting any crafters he was interested in and his parents not having enough marks to afford shipping him off to a crafthall.
While he didn't make it known, he was incredibly unhappy with his lot in life--mostly because he was still stuck with his attention-hog brother.
By happenstance, in Summer of his sixteenth Turn, a passing searchrider would pass their Hold, and Asch would be selected as a potential rider. Given this was his first opportunity presented to escape his family (read: his brother), he accepted. While at Fort, he has worked hard and stayed under the radar as much as possible, learning to read and write thanks to his candidate lessons. He doesn't do a lot of leisure reading, but does keep up with all of his lessons diligently.
