Alder is a smaller than average young man with medium length brown hair that goes down to his neck. His hair tends to cover part of his face, with him often having to move it out of the way so it's easier to see. He has a very slim figure and tends to wear clothes often red in color. His face is covered in freckles and he tends to have a nervous look in his eyes. Along with this, he has a mole on the left side of his lips. He has soft brown eyes.

Alder has a lot of self doubt. He is often overthinking things and worrying if he'll mess something up. Because of this, he often second-guesses himself and changes decisions he makes rather quickly. He tends to compare himself to other students and even those in higher positions. Alder tends to be easily influenced by others because of this and often falls to peer pressure, even if he doesn't want to do it. He also thinks he may not be able to succeed at tasks he does. He tends to work incredibly hard, though, because of that mindset. He wants to show everyone (and himself) that he will be able to succeed.
However, he is also a very kind person. He likes to help others in any way he can. He also tends to be very friendly and have a smile on his face, even if he's worrying about something. He really doesn't like the idea of people getting worried about him. If someone is a friend to him, he is incredibly loyal and will often be by their side regardless of what they're doing. Along with this, he tends to be very caring to people who need help. Alder will do anything to help them, often with a smile on his face as he does so.

HISTORY:
Alder lived a relatively peaceful life growing up in Ruatha Hold. His parents had lived in the weyr their entire lives and were happy to raise their two children there. Alder would often follow his older sister around when they would play with the other children of the hold, though he was not as confident as she was. Even at a young age, he was a quiet and reserved child for the most part.
However, one thing that greatly interested him was becoming a healer. He had always admired them growing up and would dream of becoming one to help people if they were injured. His parents noticed and were supportive of this, helping him find a mentor when he was old enough to start his apprenticeship. Alder was beyond ecstatic for this and worked hard in his apprenticeship.
Alder was a hard worker to say the least. He focused all of his time learning and training under his mentor. He wanted to ensure that he would be able to help people when he was ready to walk the tables.
However, this was not what would happen.
When he was eighteen, a searchrider had traveled to their hold. His sister was immediately searched and, when Alder went to congratulate her, the dragon began to speak to his rider. It was surprising, especially to Alder, when the searchrider mentioned that he was being searched as well. Their parents were around and seemed excited about both of their children becoming riders. Alder felt like there was a light shining down on him, drawing everyone's focus to him. He gulped a bit, deciding to go to the rider. After all, if he didn't impress, he could go back to his studies, right?
He arrived in the early winter of 2771 with his sister. He doesn't know where life will take him, and he hopes he can rise to the challenge.
