FULL APPEARANCE: Bede is practically the textbook definition of “pretty boy.” With soft blonde curls and wide blue eyes, he looks delicate, but not necessarily feminine. He is slender, pale, and not particularly tall, a fact he curses quite a bit. He can handle being slim but rather dislikes his own height. Overall, though, he’s someone who exudes a great deal of confidence in his own looks, more so than he actually feels.

Bede dresses practically, but has an eye for making things fashionable. Color coordinated, well made, beautiful things, though made specifically to withstand the wear and tear of candidate life for his own sanity.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Bede is the kind of person who hides his own fragility with aggression and overconfidence. Seemingly very arrogant, he’s very boastful and brash, caring little for how others react to him. While he does care what other people think of him, at least a little, he hides it well. He’s not a fan of those he believes to be beneath his level, and can get more than a little harsh with them. He fully believes himself to be worthy of a gold or a bronze, and hopes with all his heart that he’ll impress one of those colors (if he impresses).

Beneath the veneer of brashness, Bede is actually quite insecure. Not knowing who his real parents were, and having not had a true parental figure for a good chunk of his life, he’s a bit lacking in the parental affection department. His adoptive mother, though he has one now, is not overly affectionate with him. He craves validation from someone he looks up to, and finds himself facing doubts when he doesn’t receive that praise. Because of this, anything less than perfect often results in quite the mean bursts of temper.

Bede is also a very meticulous person. He does everything to be as textbook perfect and methodical as possible, and if he can’t do something perfectly, he’ll often throw a tantrum or pout. He treats everything with a great deal of seriousness, and would sooner eat his own foot than forget to care for Silk, or do anything else he was supposed to do. This makes him a diligent study as a candidate, though he definitely still mocks some of the others when they continually fail in various lessons.

HISTORY: Bede never really knew his biological parents, both having been beastcrafters who perished in an accident not long after his birth. Instead, he ended up being cared for by a few different people when he was young, though none of them were real parents to him. However, one of them did give him a Firelizard egg which hatched into a little garnet when he was 6, to give him a companion. While he was eventually taken in by a woman named Oleana around the age of 10, before that he didn’t really have much in the way of positive attention. After Oleana took him in, he did everything he could to garner her attention, even apprenticing in her craft (which was also his deceased parent’s craft) when he was old enough to do so.

Oleana was not an overly affectionate woman. While she cared for Bede in her own ways, his insecurities only seemed to grow in the face of her reluctance to give verbal praise. While both members of the little family cared for each other, neither understood each other very well, resulting in plenty of doubts and insecurities on both sides.

This seemed to change when a handsome bronzerider came to their hold on a search when Bede was 15. He was searched by the man, named Rose, but it was Oleana who he seemed most interested in, when Bede introduced him to explain the situation to his mother. Oleana was taken with him fairly quickly, and when Bede chose to go to the Weyr to join candidacy, Oleana decided to pack up and go to the Weyr as well, both to continue her craft in proximity to her son and to explore her newfound crush on the bronzerider.

Bede took to candidacy well, excelling in his lessons often. Having figured out Oleana would never really be vocal in her praises, he turned to Rose, who he occasionally ran into due to both his meetings with his mother, and the occasional attempt to make sure Bede was okay with him as well. Rose was slightly more free in his praise than Oleana was, though that changed fairly quickly when he learned of Bede’s tendencies with the other candidates. He continued seeing Oleana, but distanced himself from Bede, not liking his attitude.

Oleana also became more distant as time in the Weyr went on, though her reasons were due to her relationship with Rose rather than her son’s behaviour. This in turn made Bede lash out, refusing to accept that both his mother and the bronzerider he’d so looked up to were more or less ignoring him. He became meaner than before, harsher with the other candidates. He became even more boastful as well, hoping to impress gold or bronze to catch the attention of either Oleana or Rose. Now having been in the Weyr for a full year, he spends most of his time with only Silk for company, refusing to interact with everyone else, who he’s deemed beneath him.

APPEARANCE
COLOR: Garnet
FULL APPEARANCE: Silk is very large, bordering on the edges of normal for her rank. She’s stunning shades or purple from nose to tailtip, mainly being a darker purple with brighter wings. Bede takes meticulous care of her, resulting in a clean, well-oiled hide that always seems to shine.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Silk has been with Bede since she was born, and is closer to him than anybody else. She’s protective of him, and isn’t above using her large (for a garnet flit) size as a means to bully away anybody she doesn’t like hanging around him. She dislikes Rose, despite Bede’s looking up to him, and hisses when he gets close. She’s perfectly amenable to Oleana however, and will seek the woman out when she can’t stay with Bede.

Do you have any personality preferences or concerns?: Please don’t give him anything that’s too much of a pushover. Quiet and gentle is fine, but I don’t want him to steamroll over a dragon who won’t stand up to his asshattery.

Are you alright with your character getting hurt? What injury level is acceptable/what should be avoided?: Maybe don’t have him lose a limb, but scarring and other major injuries are fine.
