At six foot three, Izumi has perfected the art of looming over those shorter than him (who deserve it, of course). He’s lithe in build but muscled from his days as a smith apprentice, though he doesn’t look it at first glance. His eyes are bright blue and his long black hair falls well past his waist; he ties it up in a bun when working. He enjoys dressing up for feasts, but for day to day wear his clothing is practical, tending toward black and reds.

Izumi is a very passionate individual with a lot of personality. He doesn’t do things in halves; he throws his entire self into his work and rarely backs down from a challenge, even if this means doing something reckless or dangerous. Izumi is competitive and stubborn. A natural leader, Izumi often gets carried away and can cross the line into aggression. Generally, though, Izumi is cheerful, happy to help anyone who needs it and spend time with those who want it. He likes to be in the thick of things and is highly devoted to his friends and family. If needed, he’ll come when called. He knows the worth of those he’s leading and is willing to rely on them for support, although this can sometimes cross the line into pressuring them to help. There’s no ‘i’ in team after all!
He believes in relaxing after a hard day’s work, largely because he believes it makes him a better worker, but even relaxes intensely, determined to optimize every moment of his free time, which can take the fun out of it for more easygoing friends.
Wile fairly smart, Izumi can be stumped by a riddle, but he loves a good joke no matter how cheesy. If you can hear him laughing down the hall, it was a good one.

HISTORY:
Compared to some, Izumi had a fairly normal childhood. He was born at minor hold in Fort territory to a smith and his wife, and although he was an only child he thrived amongst the other children at the hold. As he grew older, he found himself becoming something of a mentor to the younger children, something he was happy to do. His lively presence made him well known even to those he wasn’t close with. It wasn’t often that he got into arguments, but his bold personality occasionally rubbed people the wrong way.
Izumi began learning about smithcraft early from his parents, though he didn’t begin a formal apprenticeship until he was ten. His fascination with the artistry behind blades drove him to seek instruction as a blacksmith like his father, though it would be a long while before he was forging any. He threw himself wholeheartedly into his apprenticeship and was well on his way to walking the tables when at eighteen he was Searched by a visiting rider. It was his choice to stay or go, and while he enjoyed what he did, the idea of riding a dragon sparked a new passion in him. It was something he hadn’t even dreamed of before, but now? It was on the table.
After some hard thinking, Izumi decided to take up the mantle of candidacy and traveled to Fort Weyr with the rider. He settled in rather quickly, taking to his lessons as he had in his early apprenticeship. He was delighted to continue learning smithcraft on the side, but he threw himself wholly into candidacy. His enthusiasm never waned, even as the turns passed. He was ready and waiting for his dragon.
