FULL APPEARANCE:
G'ston is, by the look of him, the flower of Holder-bred perfection. Broad across the shoulders and narrow at the waist, with muscles cording his arms and neck, he's the chiselled-jaw image of the man of the Blood that Holder girls sigh over of an evening. Black hair pulled back from his face and tied at the back of his neck contrasts nicely with tanned skin and hazel eyes. Unfortunately, G'ston knows he looks good, and is often to be found within preening distance of other people or a mirror.
Usually to be found wearing shades of brown, almost always with something bright red with brass buttons thrown over the top, G'ston tends towards ruffled shirts, waistcoats, and a very tight fit, although his favourite long red leather coat is often a feature. Big riding boots with the tops folded down over his calves, and a belt and baldric for his quiver, usually finish the ensemble.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
G'ston is one of those huge personalities who both fills and empties a room on his arrival. His ego occupies all the space available, and in doing so leaves so little space for other people that many of them don't care to be in the same place as it. G'ston is used to having and being the best in whatever he cares to do, and the fact that he's really been living in his father's shadow has mostly passed him by without notice.
G'ston is used to being the centre of attention. He's used to having women want him, he's used to having men want to be him, and he accepts the adulation of others as his just due. He's selfish and entitled, and the problems of others only really interest him if he can save the day and be a hero - or if he reckons he can get something he wants out of them. And he'll do just about anything to get what he wants.
Does G'ston have any redeeming features? That's debatable. He's outgoing, he's personable with those who suck up to him, and he just loves swooping in and saving the day. People who don't suck up to him generally go ignored unless he wants something from them - or unless he has to listen to them. After all, they've already proven themselves completely without taste or manners or decency by ignoring a son of the Blood, so who cares what they get up to?
HISTORY
FAMILY: Lord Dantryl, Lady Kinelia of Lemos. Two older brothers, and various sisters, cousins, uncles and aunts, etc.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: The Mirror
BIRTHPLACE: Lemos Hold
HISTORY:
TW: Homophobia, pettiness, entitlement, awful human being
Third and youngest son of Lord Dantryl and Lady Kinelia of Lemos, Gariston grew up the spoiled youngest son of power. His oldest brother was the heir, and Kinestryl was the spare; Gariston, meanwhile, got to do as he pleased as long as he didn't attract his father's eye. And what Gariston pleased to do most, of all the things deemed suitable for a boy of the Blood, was go hunting.
Gariston, leading a more outdoor life than a good number of Pernese and eating rather better than most, grew up big and strong. He knew the ways of his prey and could read their tracks, grew adept at skinning and butchering and all those other bits of fieldcraft, and as a result his suite in the Hold sported more furs and fangs than any ten others - and far more than anyone else wanted, but Gariston never did understand the concept of 'good taste'.
Things started to go wrong when Gariston caught his older brother Kinestryl in bed with a man. He reported his brother's misdeed to their father, smugly sure that Kinestryl would get a strip torn off him and Gariston himself would be even more the apple of his father's eye than he already was. Gariston was hoping to be given Kinestryl's best sword out of it all. Kinestryl's fostering out to Crom came as a terrible shock to Gariston, who'd never intended for things to go that far. He fell heir to Kinestryl's position as the spare, and Kinestryl's sword, in a way he never wanted.
Saddled with expectations he'd never had before, Gariston found assuming Kinestryl's place easier than he'd hoped. Stronger and tougher than his brother and with a reputation as a hunter, the young lord found himself at home with the Hold's guards - or would have done, if they'd approved of the way he'd sold his brother out. As it was he was near-ostracised by his new charges, and spent longer and longer out in the field and forest in order to get away from the whispers and the slurs in the Hold.
Eventually his father decided that it was time to look for suitable suitors for his sisters. Gariston found himself despatched to Ruatha as his father's representative, to meet the young men deemed suitable and get their measure; he did so, and a few sevendays later word went back to Lemos that there was indeed an appropriate young man. With the task complete a Fortian dragon arrived to convey the young lord back to Lemos; a little disappointed that Fort had only sent a blue but not about to embarrass his Hold, Gariston greeted the dragon politely; a few moments later he was being offered the chance to go to the Weyr rather than the Hold, to stand as a Candidate for the eggs on the sands.
Faced with a return to an intolerable situation at home, or a chance to one-up the now dragonrider K'stryl, Gariston opted for Fort Weyr. After all, he was a quality Candidate, the best Pern had to offer. After all, no-one Candidates like Gariston.
