BASICS

RETIRE INFO: Dragon - Adopt / Character - Retire
NAME: Lilian
GENDER: Female
PRONOUNS: she/her/hers
ORIENTATION: Too busy hetero

BIRTHDATE: Fall 2739
AGE: 28 as of 2767
LOCATION: Healer Hall (Fort)
OCCUPATION: Journeyman healer

APPEARANCE
EYES: light brown
HAIR: dark brown
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 5' 4", medium build
PLAY-BY: Jennifer Balgobin
FULL APPEARANCE: Lilian is on the rather short side, of an average build with curves where you expect them; nothing special, nothing lacking. She wears her dark brown hair cut short and a bit ragged, probably even cuts it herself, though don't ask because it's not your business. Lilian has light brown eyes set in a face with high cheekbones and a cleft chin. It's a wonder that she has no frown lines yet.

Lilian is usually wearing working healer garb, even alone in her quarters. She prefers neat, clean attire, which can't always be managed in the thick of things. Even covered with blood or other bodily fluids, she does manage to look officious, Faranth knows how.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Lilian has thrown herself into her work. That is her life; she has no room in it for romantic partners or even for a short fling. She might go toss back an ale or two with colleagues from time to time but that's about it for getting social.

When Lilian is sure she's right, she's sure, and pig-headed about it too. This extends to her attitude about her craft: health and medical treatment come before everything else, don't get between her and a patient, even if you're a Lord Holder or the Senior Weyrleader. This has not done her career any favors.

Lilian is very interested in learning about new treatments, and especially new herbs and their uses, keeping copious well-organized notes on every case that's at all interesting. Unfortunately she is not so organized in her living habits; clean but messy sums it up.

Lilian may not believe in that old trope about revenge best served cold, but she can and does hold a grudge forever.

Lilian is terrified of firelizards and will refuse to come within a dragon's length of one. Dragons of any size are fine; she's simply indifferent to them.

HISTORY
FAMILY: Father living, no siblings
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: (optional)
BIRTHPLACE: Telgar Weyr
HISTORY: Her mother died when Lilian was a toddler. Her father was a bronze rider and wingleader, with high expectations for his only child. Although she was fostered, as is proper in the Weyr, her father continually tried to meddle in her upbringing, making it clear that he expected her to learn those things that would benefit a rider dedicated to protecting Pern by fighting Thread. Lilian wasn't having it; she did very well in her Harper lessons as a little girl, showing high aptitude for reading and writing, and showed no interest in the dragon-human bond or playing wingrider or any of that.

When she was small, Lilian encountered (as she told it later, wailing tearfully) a wild faire of fire lizards that viciously attacked her. Folks later speculated that there must have been a clutch nearby that the fire lizards were simply protecting against the unknown intruder. How was she to know about the silly old clutch? In any case, she came away with painful scratches on her face and neck. The healers spoke to her soothingly and treated her wounds with the utmost care. Though it took some time, the physical scars from her ordeal faded completely. Scars left on the psyche are a different matter, and she was left with a deep-seated fear of firelizards, though she did not have any issues with dragons or whers.

Not long after this, Lilian decided she wanted to be a healer, and would trail after the healers and offer to help after every Threadfall. This was seen as endearing at 6 and 7 years old, a bit annoying at 8, and folks finally started to take her seriously at 9. She was initially given simple tasks to do, holding limbs still while they were cleaned or bandaged, or sterlizing cloths in boiling water. She took that as encouragement rather than being put off by it, and so she was gradually given other tasks, though always those suitable for her age.

In spite of her interest and dedication, Lilian's father expected her to impress gold, and when she was 15 she stood for the first and last time, at his orders. She did not impress and was not the least bit sorry about it. Late that evening there was a lot of shouting heard by anyone near her father's weyr, about the importance of his sole offspring becoming a dragonrider to fight thread and how could she disrespect him by failing to impress and not even caring about her failure. Lilian looked at her father stonily, saying nothing, and then left the room to return to her quarters with her foster parents.

The very next day she marched over to the senior healer at Telgar and asked to become an apprentice. What could he say? He packed her off with the few belongings she couldn't bear to leave behind, and sent her to the Healer Hall at Fort Hold, in the company of a journeyman heading that way. Lilian threw herself into her studies, eventually achieving the rank of journeyman.

From time to time Lilian and her father would cross paths at events such as gold hatchings at Fort Weyr, where she was present as a healer in case of candidate injury, and he showed up with other folks from Telgar in order to hobnob with other riders of rank. On these occasions they had little to say to each other, both behaving very stiffly and formally.
