FULL APPEARANCE:
L'ra is every bit the embodiment of a sunny day. From her wavy brown hair caught up in a carefree and messy tail to the graceful flare of her favorite blue dress, L'ra is free and warm. Her most frequently used accessory is a smile, but she's particularly fond of bracelets. And while she's still a little too thin to have yet grown into her own height, weyrling training has done much to dispel that. She has a particular love of bright colors and will wear just about any apprentice tailors' experiment in color. Fortunately, she looks good in most things. Her complexion is suited for bright, saturated tones, but she picks her wardrobe by how the colors make her feel.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Perhaps unsurprisingly for someone who likes colors as much as L'ra does, she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Her philosophy is that although she can not control her circumstances, she can always control how she reacts to them. She chooses to react with good humor, with light, and with hope. Her positive attitude has stood her in good stead so far in life.
The thing is that the world can't be fixed by being determined that things were fine. The longer L'ra stays at High Reaches, the more she sees the terribly fragile state of the world. Her inclination is to try to fix things by pushing that which is light, and good, and sweet. Even when confronted with the truth that the world is messy, she sticks to her guns. How can the world continue like that when L'ra is there to hold the line? Her confidence that a good attitude is all the world needs to change makes her somewhat sanctimonious. If things are going wrong for you, you must not have the right attitude. And if you don't have the right attitude, then that's your problem.
In a way, that's her greatest strength tied into her one of her biggest weaknesses. She holds the belief that if she can be the light and change, the world will simply accommodate her. Being able to hold a belief like this takes strength, and a solid core of iron. The problem is that she doesn't believe that she has to go any further to fix things. Nonviolence? More like nonaction! And honestly, she's a little lazy about it. That's another big weakness. She doesn't think she has to put any work into changing anything. But that's one thing that makes her the moral compass that points to light and hope, keeping Tamith's war on Pern from becoming nothing more than a revenge fest. And in time, who knows? Maybe Tamith will spur her to action in turn.
HISTORY
FAMILY: a family of minor holders at Ista
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: none, for now
BIRTHPLACE: Ista Hold
HISTORY:
Leora was a younger sister to a family at Ista Hold. There hadn't been a rider from her immediate family in several generations, but there was a branch of the family at the weyr that had Impressed a wher. Leora loved to see the dragons flying overhead, and her parents promised her that if she were ever lucky enough to be chosen on a Search, she would be allowed to go to the weyr to try her chances.
As fate would have it, Leora was Searched the next time the riders came through, not long after her fifteenth birthday. Leora made friends with her fellow candidates, and privately decided that she couldn't possibly choose a favored color. They were all wonderful in their own way, from the majestic golds all the way to the often delicate whites. Leora had no particular lofty goals for a dragon other than to get one.
Clutches weren't particularly hard to come by, but Leora was left standing for two Turns. When it was announced that Maktooth's next clutch would be donated to High Reaches Weyr, Leora asked if she could transfer to try her luck there. She was warned that High Reaches desperately needed the numbers and that transferring back might not be easy. By then, she'd shed her holdborn identity in favor of the weyrfolk. Transferring didn't scare her any more than any other big change.
Impressing, now, that was a grand, scary adventure. Leora thought she knew how hatchings were supposed to go. Stand in your clean white robes, wait for a hatchling to choose you, maybe jump out of the way if you happened to be between them and their chosen. When her Tamith hatched, she had to act quickly to prevent blood from staining the sand.
My Leora, help me!
Leora was not noted for being particularly speedy, but she'd never run so fast in her life to pull her green away from the garnet she fought. Leora thought she had signed up for a life defending her home from Thread. But with Tamith by her side, newly minted L'ra had just embarked on a one dragon crusade against the whole world. No one with traitorous intent was safe, particularly not garnet Pamith.
