FULL APPEARANCE: Nagate is of average height for a man of his age, built sturdily from his Turns of work in his home cothold. He has an expressive face with wide gray eyes, often found wide with joy, awe, or embarrassment. Despite his not-so-concerted efforts, he often finds that his otherwise short black hair gets in his eyes. He is intimidated by fashion, preferring simple clothes in dark colors or his riding leathers to anything fancy.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Nagate is awkward. He's polite and well-mannered when he remembers what to say, but he stammers and gets embarrassed very easily. This just makes him more embarrassed. He finds it especially hard to talk to women by virtue of the fact that he interacted with very few of them growing up.
He'll always be a sensitive person, feeling things deeply and wearing his emotions on his sleeve. While he doesn't verbalize his emotions much unless provoked, his body language is very easy to read. He can be roused to anger easily, and his outbursts of emotion can lead to embarrassment at best and punishment at worst. He's not all that perceptive when it comes to emotions, though - he can't really tell if people like him or not. Especially in a romantic sense.
When it comes to things except for social situations, Nagate's a quick learner. He puts in forethought, mostly if someone tells him to, but in the heat of the moment he always trusts his gut above all. His gut tells him to save individuals at the cost of the greater good, especially people he's attached to, and he's single-minded in this determination. Having not grown up with many material goods, he finds that people are the single most important thing to him.

BIRTHPLACE: Small mining hold near Crom
HISTORY: Nagate was born in a little mining hold that was prosperous if not actually wealthy, and lived a happy life with his parents and maternal grandfather for two Turns. Unfortunately, when Nagate was two, his parents were killed in a cave-in, leaving Nagate to be raised by his grandfather.
The little hold had few inhabitants and few visitors outside of those who traded for supplies and the mine's output of rock and metal. Nagate spent most of his time with his grandfather, the pair helping out with the less arduous tasks around the hold due to Hiroki's age and Nagate's lack thereof. Nagate showed little inclination towards mining, and Hiroki didn't push him, instead filling his head with tales of dragons and Thread. Hiroki wanted a better life for his grandson than the small mining cothold, now his daughter's grave, could offer the boy.
Nagate began to devote more of his time to caring for his aging grandfather as he grew older. Hiroki, sensing his time had come when Nagate was around sixteen, gave him a letter of introduction to a relative at Telgar Weyr. Hiroki wasn't on good terms with Kobayashi, but hoped that she'd help take care of Nagate.
After Hiroki's death, Nagate reluctantly set out for Telgar Weyr, with the well-wishes of the other hold inhabitants. The letter got him a swift introduction to his aunt - technically his mother's cousin - and Kobayashi even more swiftly had her white Search the bemused Nagate. He made some friends among the candidates, especially two girls named Hoshijiro and Izana, and eagerly looked forward to his first clutch.
At his first clutch, barely a season after he arrived, Nagate Impressed to a curious, if not nosy, white. Hoshijiro and Izana Impressed as well, the former to a green and the latter to a blue. Nagate and Playath did well in lessons, despite Nagate's bumbling and Playath's curiosity.
Izana gifted him a firelizard egg upon their graduation, in what was a very obvious attempt to attract his romantic attention. Nagate only had eyes for Hoshijiro and saw Izana as his best friend. The egg hatched into a very unusual chimeric firelizard, garnet and white.
Hoshijiro transferred to Fort to be closer to her family, and Nagate followed behind her. He couldn't just abandon her. Izana reluctantly came along too.
