Izuku is rather short for a boy his age, standing at a mere 5'7". What he lacks in height he makes up for in muscle, having worked hard to tone his body in preparation for candidacy and dragonriding. His black hair is short and fluffy, sticking up in all different directions no matter what he tries to do. He has dark freckles on his cheeks that stand out against his light skin. His dark green eyes are large, giving him an innocent look.

On the surface, Izuku is insecure and reserved. Due to being bullied for his size, he’s doesn’t have much confidence in himself. He tends to overthink things and can be found muttering to himself as he tries to work out a problem. Still, he is an incredibly kind and selfless individual who will go out of his way to help someone in need. Whether it’s a shoulder to cry on or help with chores, he’s willing to assist in any way he can. He wants everyone to know they can rely on him and strives to be the best he can so his friends don’t need to worry as much.
Despite his timid exterior, Izuku is a diligent and intelligent boy. He knows the importance of learning how to be a rider and invests much time and energy into his studies. He is extremely analytical and can make a plan quickly even under pressure. He takes the time to get to know his peers and observe their strengths and weaknesses so they can work together as a cohesive unit. He can become impulsive when jumping in to help someone in danger, foregoing his usual planning and instead acting before thinking. He can make it work, but this behavior can get him into trouble as well.

Born at Ista shortly after his father's death during Threadfall, Izuku was raised primarily by his mother Inko. They were very close as a result and growing up he admired his mother greatly. Even as a drudge she was the strongest person he knew and wanted to be like her, just as he wanted to be like his father, riding a dragon to fight the scourge of Thread. Though he never knew the man, from the stories his mother told he knew he wanted to be like him.
Izuku was bullied by some throughout his childhood for being small for his age and for being a crybaby. His tendency to cry over just about anything earned him much scorn from his peers. Though he grew out of this as he aged, the resulting insecurity stayed with him. Despite his low self esteem, he wanted to be someone his mother would be proud of. He worked hard to build up his strength both on his own and by taking up menial chores around the Weyr. When he formally entered candidacy, he doubled down on both his chores and lessons, wanting to ensure that he was ready both physically and mentally for the task of riding a dragon.
Not long after the turned 15, Izuku began to wonder if Ista was really the place for him. Aside from his mother, he didn't have many emotional connections, and he was just one of so many. There could be a better place for him... like Semaca. It wouldn't be easy, but the newest Weyr could use all the bodies they could get. Thus he requested a transfer and got it, eager to use his talents to help in any way he could.
