FULL APPEARANCE:
G’dan’s medium length hair is often a bit tangled, messy or greasy at any given moment. But he still does his best to keep himself clean when the moment calls for it. He wears rough clothes as fashion was never an issue for him. However, he does have preferences and will only wear what he deems acceptable as far as comfort or propriety goes. The only piece of clothing he keeps closer than any other would be the scarf his mother made him when he was a boy.
G’dan does bear a couple scars from mishaps as a boy, but he will gladly tell you otherwise. He makes no effort to hide them, nor does he make any effort to shrink away from the world. He holds himself proudly and strides forward wherever he goes with purpose.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
G’dan is loud, and to some, pompous. He holds himself in high regard, and will make an effort to make sure you all know that he’s capable of many things. He’s known to speak more eloquently when he speaks to people, but it’s usually a front to try and sound more impressive than he is. He prefers the company of animals and his bonded, enjoying the silence and the ability to speak through a bond. He feels he can be better understood in a mental conversation because he can just think of what he wants to say, as opposed to trying to translate words depending on the situation. Because he prefers the company of animals, he prefers not to eat meat. That isn’t to say he won’t eat it as needed but holds strong opinions about the way animals are treated prior to their deaths. He will never waste meat scraps, as he doesn’t wish for their passing to be in vain.
Despite his quirks, G’dan is a loyal friend and will do his best to encourage those around him to strive for their best. He is very picky about who he befriends, but once he sticks to you, he will be hard to shake off. While he thinks highly of himself, he still doesn’t see himself as much of a leader. He prefers to support those he considers worthy, rather than the overall population.
Intra-weyr politics are a bother to him, as he cares only for those who he can trust. He will keep the majority of people at arms’ length if he can help it.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Yvetha ( Mother, Herder )
Keveth ( Father, Herder )
BIRTHPLACE: Greenfields Hold
HISTORY:
Gohdan was born to a poor herder couple, living in Greenfields in a community of herder and wool spinners. At an early age he found he had an affinity with animals, and was sent away at 8 turns to learn how to be a beastcrafter. He specifically cared for herd animals, and wanted to return to his home one day to help his family with his flock. However, as time went on, he started to want to study OTHER animals as well. Even the pests and insects others didn't find appealing at all, he watched and studied with delight. It wasn’t exactly weird to his fellow apprentices, but they didn’t really get why he wanted to learn about ALL beasts in depth, as opposed to just the ones he’d be working with. Gohdan argued that such a title would only fit with him if he ended up learning as much as physically possible of all manner of beasts. So for Turns, he buried himself in his studies.
Upon hitting the 15 Turns mark, however, life began to get complicated for him. A dragonrider from Igen Weyr had come to their hall to meet with a relative, but his dragon had sniffed out at least a couple of potential candidates. Gohdan was among them.
While he was interested in learning the craft, the idea of Candidacy still struck him as exciting. Plus, he’d learned as much as he could in a classroom and in the farmlands around the Hall. And there WAS the little issue that dragonkind was not really a subject they talked about. Not in depth anyway, that was specifically for those looking to be Beast and Dragonhealers, and Gohdan hadn’t decided to take that route as of yet. So after some careful thought, he decided to allow himself to become a Candidate. He wrote to his parents about it before leaving for a new life. Beastcrafting was a fine profession but he’d wanted to branch out to something past that.
Adjusting to life at Igen was hard. He wasn’t used to the sheer crowd that a weyr boasted, and he often hid himself in his bunk. But as time went on, Gohdan grew to have a small group of trusted or at least accepting friends. While they did think his attitude was a bit weird, they also were respectful of his passion for dragons. Gohdan stood for a handful of clutches with them, and eventually his partner came to him.
The bronze was skinny, not unlike him, and slightly hunched over at first. But when he locked eyes with G’dan, he stood up tall and trotted over with the ease and grace of someone spotting their best friend in a crowded hall. His name was Anubaath and he was happy to bond to the over the top young man. Gohdan, now G’dan was the last of his friends to join the weyrling group, but they were all still quite close. Finally, when he was graduated and ready to start flying, he conversed with Anubaath on where to go next. Igen was great but G’dan was also not the type to settle for too long. After some thought and quarreling, they settled on High Reaches as their next destination. But before that, G’dan would visit his parents, and drop off some marks and let them know that he was ok.
They greeted him with open arms, and were excited that their son had grown into such a fine young rider. The pair stayed for a couple days, but eventually they’d have to leave. G’dan promised to come by when he could, and soon, the pair were off to High Reaches Weyr. Settling back into a Weyr was always hard. But Anubaath being there was a big help to G’dan, helping him approach others and translating his fancy speech. Soon enough, a Turn had come and gone, and High Reaches Weyr eventually became like home to the two.
