FULL APPEARANCE:
Stephen is a tall, thinly built man. His hair is well maintained, swooped to the right and beginning to gray just above the ears. He has a mustache and beard that he keeps neatly trimmed and short.
He already has the beginnings of wrinkles above his eyebrows and above his nose, likely from the near constant frowning he does. Stephen has sharp, defined cheekbones and an oval shaped face

PERSONALITY:
Stephen is not the kindest man. He can be described as extremely blunt and often inconsiderate. Underneath his cold exterior he hides a caring and damaged man, with a touch of dark humor and immense intelligence. He also holds a deep sense of moral compass. Though it has been tested and warped by his life, he feels a need to help others.
Getting close to him is difficult. He keeps everyone at arm's length, though seems to have a soft spot for younger people. To them he is less of a cold, unfeeling man and more of a strict but understanding mentor. He largely keeps to himself, but will speak when spoken to and often enjoys intellectually stimulating conversations.

For the majority of his childhood and young adult life, he aspired to be a healer. His passion started when his sister fell ill. They were both younger, and the illness was chronic and had no cure. He set out to learn, and to attempt to find or develop a cure for her. In the end his journey to save her life was unsuccessful and she died when he was a Senior Apprentice. The loss of his sister and the sense of failure he felt from it led him to be much colder and less optimistic. Still, he didn't regret his choice of craft.
He poured himself into his work after his sister died. He made it his life's goal to help people he could, though he became a bit fatalistic when it came to extreme or near insolvable cases. After a few turns at High Reaches Hold he began to feel like he was stagnating in his work. That, and hearing all the misfortune that had happened at High Reaches Weyr with threadfall prompted him to travel to the Weyr, in an effort to further his craft. He transferred after the heavy threadfall in Fall of 2767.
At 25, he had a lot of work to do. He largely tried to ignore the turmoil of Weyr politics, focusing instead on the many injured from threadfall. So many wings were in ruins, so many riders injured. He just hoped his skills would be enough to save some lives. High Reaches seemed to need every healer it could get.
