FULL APPEARANCE: Chuuya is very much on the short side for a Pernese male. Standing at a mere 5’3”, his height is probably his least favorite thing about himself. He’s rather sensitive about it, and prefers instead to focus on the rest of his looks. His hair is somewhat uneven, gorgeous ginger curls, tumbling past his shoulders just a bit and usually pulled to one side of his face in the front. His eyes are a normal, but no less pretty, shade of light greyish blue. Chuuya is someone who prefers to look nice and put together, so all of his clothes are nicely fitting and well cared for. People don’t necessarily expect it at his height, but he’s also got a fair bit of muscle to him, all of which is clearly defined.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Chuuya, for the most part, is fairly calm and reasonable. He has a temper, but he’s usually capable of reining it in enough to interact with others, and cares a lot about the people around him. There’s a few things that destroy his carefully crafted self-control, though. He cannot stand when people comment on his height, and gets more than a little angry when it happens. The second thing is his “friend” Dazai, who always seems to know what gets under his skin at any given moment and capitalizes on it ruthlessly. Around either of those factors, he can’t really help himself, and can and will get into a screaming match with anybody involved.
He’s perfectly obedient and willing to listen with superiors, but never subservient- he has a brain of his own, and he definitely knows when the people in charge have gone too far. If he thinks an order is too much, he’ll refuse it, especially with the amount of stubborn pride he holds. While he is a nice enough guy, he is very stubborn when he wants to be, and if he’s made up his mind he won’t change it for anybody. Nobody, not even Dazai or his precious Kouyou can talk him down from things he believes in, and in this sense he’s as dense as a rock.
While he won’t admit it, he’s fond of kids and older teens, though he’s not great with babies. So long as they don’t mock his height, he’s more than willing to provide a listening ear or just a bit of friendly advice, especially to new candidates and wherlings.

HISTORY: Chuuya’s childhood before coming to the Weyr wasn’t particularly exciting or interesting. He was just another kid who didn’t really get on with his parents, and grew up arguing with them at every turn. It didn’t matter how small the matter was, they could never really see eye to eye in anything. This translated to Chuuya taking the first apprenticeship that got him out of the house as much as possible, which ended up being beastcraft. At first, it was just a means to an end for Chuuya, but he genuinely grew to like beastcraft, and caring for the animals under his and his mentor’s care. His relationship with his parents never quite improved, but he’d discovered something he liked, and wanted to keep doing it.
When his mentor decided to migrate to a Weyr when he was 15, Chuuya begged them to take him along with them. At first they were reluctant, but eventually caved for the apprentice, and along came Chuuya. If Chuuya had liked beastcraft before, he loved life in the Weyr, which had ended up being High Reaches. While he did want to continue his craft, candidacy also called to him, and he ended up signing up for Wher candidacy upon reaching 17 turns of age. Having a wher certainly never hurt anything, and he could always continue working with the animals in the meantime.
For a few years, candidacy became his routine. During this time, he met a boy named Dazai who got under his skin like no other, but he was oddly possessive of. He also met an elegant woman named Kouyou, who became a second mentor to him. She taught him what the life of a handler would be, and some manners he had been sorely lacking. She taught him how to reign in his temper, and when that temper should be let loose. In the end, they grew quite close, and she was officially dubbed his big sister. The two even looked the part, with that red hair of theirs.
When he was 21, Chuuya finally impressed a wher, a small blue who took the name Yask. Yask was interesting, once Chuuya finally had him. He was a little thing, but had more temper than Chuuya himself, and wasn’t half so forgiving or nice. He expected the best from Chuuya, and insisted the wherling was the best no matter what. As he grew and opinions became stronger, he also knew he wanted his handler to be in a position of power one day. Chuuya was never quite sure what to make of this, but he appreciated how strongly Yask felt.
Graduation was no trouble for them, since Chuuya and Yask had done well during their time as Wherlings. Ending up in the sunburst squad, they began working to establish a proper rhythm for themselves. It helped that they had a space of their own now, though, which Dazai was never ever allowed into.
Having not been a part of the squads for long, Chuuya and Yask have decided to sign up for round two of candidacy, hoping to add a second Wher to their odd little group. Yask was not so fond of this decision, but stood by Chuuya in it.
