FULL APPEARANCE:
Dante is and looks the part of a hot mess. He is conventionally attractive, that is for sure. He is fit, muscular, has a nice face shape and facial features, and generally ticks off most of the boxes of 'I am a handsome man'. His hair is the messy part, however. Greying early from stress per the family way, Dante's messy, chin-length hair is straight as a pin and goes everywhere and anywhere it wants. He doesn't even try to get it to look proper.
His long, red leather jacket goes with him everywhere, and you'd be hard-pressed to see him without it. Other than that, his wardrobe typically consists of collared shirts, boots, and pants. Stuff that's practical for wherhandler work.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Dante is a show-off. Always has been, always will be. He's quick to mouth off, quicker to swear, and has a devil may care attitude about next to everything. He's a total flirt... that doesn't mean he's good at it though. He's completely fearless, which translates into dangerous levels of recklessness. He's extremely accident-prone and makes more trips to the infirmary than probably anyone else in the weyr. Yes, he can be relatively serious when the time calls for it, and he can be counted on to do what is asked of him, but don't expect him not to make a fool of himself while doing it. His version of serious is still incredibly laid back. He can come off as an asshole and does so often, but really is a good guy at heart.
He's prone to fight for what he wants first and ask questions later and has no problem breaking out the ol' one-two punch if it's needed. He has a strong sense of justice ingrained in him by his father and prefers to be fair with everything that he does. He will help people just to help them, not seeking any sort of reward for his actions. He values friends and family highly and will do anything for them- even for his estranged brother (if they were to come into contact again).
After having a falling out with his brother, his closest childhood friend, Dante has found himself in a bit of a depressive slump- even though it happened years ago. He tries his best to hide this from everyone with how he shows off and acts all recklessly- they can't bring it up if they don't think he's hurting, and they won't think he's hurting if he's 'obviously' having a fun time. All it is is a distraction from the truth, and he knows it. If someone was keen enough to notice, he would shrug it off and deny any attempt to help him no matter how many times they bring it up.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Sparda (father, deceased), Eva (mother, deceased), Vergil of Brown Nelogeloth (twin brother, alive and estranged), Nero (nephew but pretty much adopted son at this point, alive)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: A hold outside of High Reaches
HISTORY:
Dante was the second born of fraternal twins, the only set of kids that his parents ever ended up having. He and Vergil, his elder twin, were incredibly close despite their differences in personality. Where Dante was outgoing and reckless, Vergil was introverted and patient- that never stopped them from getting along. They did next to everything together, and that wasn't an understatement. As they got older, they went out in the hold's farm fields to work. Dante was almost entirely sure that that was just how his life was going to go.
Soon enough, he was proved wrong. Vergil was searched and brought off to High Reaches while he was left at the hold. That did not sit well with him as much as he wanted to play it off. They were TWINS. What did Vergil have that Dante didn't? Meanwhile, Vergil's head got bigger and bigger with the situation. It made absolutely no sense to Dante, but it made him mad. After a set of letters that got angrier and angrier over time, both Dante and Vergil's ego couldn't take the other's, and they stopped corresponding. Dante missed his brother, for sure, but had it up to here with him and couldn't stand it anymore. One last letter was sent to his brother by him after his mother fell ill and died, to no response. So much for 'family'.
On a day off from farm work, he went out walking outside the hold near the woods. On this walk, he spotted an egg, a large one, in fact. And, in a stroke of pure idiocracy, he went over and picked it up. While he held the very large egg in his hands, it began to crack. Dante panicked. He couldn't just put it down now! It was cracking IN HIS HANDS. What if he dropped it and hurt whatever was inside? What if whatever was inside hurt HIM? Then the pieces of shell fell away and all that Dante was left with a very pretty baby brown wher in his hands. A brown wher who, upon realizing that she was up in the air, quickly bit him on the hand- hard enough to draw blood- and began to yell at him for holding her in the air. What was he thinking? Faranth only knew.
Upon returning to the hold with his new companion, Brown Dansk, Dante promptly went to sleep. When he woke up in the middle of the night to get a midnight snack, he realized that Dansk glowed in the dark from one spot on her hide. Were whers supposed to do that? Honestly, he didn't know, and didn't really think much of it- until someone told him that, no, they didn't do that, then he got all smug about it. Once she was big enough, they became guards for the hold. It was something that he thought was actually beneficial to the hold, something that his time would be better spent doing than boring old farm work.
Years passed, his father died (no letter was sent to Vergil about it), and eventually, Dante's guard work joined boring old farm work in boring levels. It was just so... repetitive. After some deliberation, he decided he would move over to 'the big city'. High Reaches Weyr and join up with one of the squads. He had guard training, he'd been doing it for years, how hard could Weyr work be?
It was reasonably hard, he found out once he got there. His brother, who had been searched and most likely Impressed while he was there, was no longer at High Reaches. It wasn't much of a shock to Dante, but he was a little hurt that he hadn't even received any sort of letter from him about the move- then again, why would he get one? They hadn't talked in years. The newest part of his life came from this teenager who genuinely thought he was his dad. Something something about them looking similar? Sure, he and Verg were twins but... they didn't look that similar, did they? As it turned out, yes, Nero- the teen- was Vergil's son, making him Dante's nephew. Dante once again had another reason to be mad at Vergil. Mom and dad sure would've liked to know that they had a grandchild before they died.
Of course, he was never really mad at Nero. Vergil had packed up and left him behind, and Dante knew how that felt. He took the kid under his wing and was very, very proud when he entered dual (because Dansk talked him into it) candidacy. As of late, Dante has been goofing off when he can and working when he has to- so the usual Dante wherhandler stuff. He's been enjoying the peace at High Reaches, and is hoping that it continues on for a good while.
