FULL APPEARANCE: Saori is an average-height male with a little less muscle than he needs. Because the vast majority of his life was spent within the little Weaver Hall set up in High Reaches Hold, he hasn't been altogether exposed to the elements. Most of his time has been spent dabbling with dyes and knitting needles. As such, his fingers are calloused and typically stained with whatever color he happens to be working with at the time. His clothes are typically light-fitting, including a loose jacket and pants.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Molded with the spunk and sarcasm of a teenager transitioning into a young adult, Saori can be extensively brash and short-fused. His hot-headed nature can land him in hot water pretty quickly, and he lacks the composure to back down when wrong. Ever since becoming a night-shift wherhandler, Saori is fuelled by klah and rage ... which doesn't really bode well, considering his personality beforehand.
Despite his arrogant volcanic tendencies, Saori is protective of those younger and less capable than him. He will try to take them under his wing, getting annoyed when they fail to notice the obvious but striving, without faltering, to help them reach their full potential.
With his home lost to him due to the mudslide that took High Reaches Hold with it, Saori is constantly waging war against the unseen battle of survivor's guilt. The same hands that failed to dig his parents from their earthly tomb quiver when he is lost in thought. It's not uncommon for him to clam up and walk away when heavier emotions strike him. He is still having a rough time adjusting to life past midnight and often doesn't get as much sleep as he probably should. The nightmares don't help.
He is grateful for Orisk's presence. Many times, he is the only thing holding Saori together.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Akamaru (deceased in 2774)
Izunuka (deceased in 2774)
Kiba (sister, 17 )
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: High Reaches Hold
HISTORY: TW: Death
Within High Reaches Hold was a small Weavercraft Hall of which Saori's parents were masters. He grew with a fondness for vibrant colors and an awe of the vivid tapestries that brought life to the droll halls of the buildings around them. At a young age, he demonstrated a keen eye for art. His mother and father did not miss this fact, and quickly enlisted him as an apprentice to follow in their footsteps. His little sister did not favor the craft as much as he did. Kiba constantly heckled her older brother to the point of furious annoyance, but he loved her to no end.
At the age of 17, Akamaru presented his son with a wher egg. Saori doted on it every second of the day - keeping it warm and moving all of his projects to the same room that the egg was kept in so that he would never have to be apart from it. When little Orisk hatched, Saori's entire world was flipped upside-down. He had to go from being diurnal to a night wherry which, as you can imagine, did wonders for his attitude.
But he adjusted, and life went on.
The seasons changed and Turns drolled on. Then came Fall. And so did the rain.
And the mud.
High Reaches Hold was destroyed. The Weavercraft Hall had been spared, but his family had not - for they were within the Hold's living quarters at the time. Saori managed to escape in time with the Orisk, simply because they were in the right place at the right time. Despite spending hours or tireless digging and screaming their names, begging for a response, Saori was only able to pull his sister to safety. He felt lost. Grieving and numb, he, Kiba and Orisk arrived at High Reaches Weyr with the other survivors. The wher clung to the part of his soul that remained intact and brought it back to the surface. Saori often credits the creature with saving his life - and sanity.
It has barely been a year since the tragedy, and Saori still struggles with the vast darkness of hopeless emotions. But each day gets a little better. Bit by bit.
