Raev is short with strong muscles and a bit of fat on her frame. She carries most of her weight around her hips and thighs. She keeps her hair fairly short, with the back flaring out just below her jawline. She has longer bangs in the front, which she parts to the side. She has relatively pale skin with numerous freckles, and is often sunburned on her face.
Raev has two scars from her impression trailing from her bottom lip to her chin. She also has a large thread burn scar spanning her right cheek across her nose. She also has a few burn scars on her arms and legs from past threadfalls, but tends to keep them covered. She wears sturdy clothes, preferring to wear leather and hardier cloth. Oftentimes she carries a walking staff with her. She prefers clothes in darker shades and hasn't been seen wearing a dress since she was a child.

Raev is blunt, stubborn, and grumpy. Perpetually in a sour mood, she doesn't care for pleasantries and speaks to everyone the same way, curtly. Rank and seniority don't matter to her, as everyone is stuck in the same boat and doing their best to keep everyone alive. She's meticulous, so she thinks her way of doing things is the proper way and is firm in her stance.
Despite her rough exterior, Raev has a soft spot for kids. She's still just as blunt with them, but she can't help but want to take care of them. Of course, her definition of kid extends to anyone younger than her with an air of helplessness around them.
Though she's often grumbling to herself, Raev is a hard worker and level-headed. She's quick to analyze a situation and take action. Even though she is a competent and capable worker, she feels as though at any moment the life she's carved out for herself could come crashing down, so she is wary and doesn't open up to others easily. On top of that, she has an incredibly low sense of self-worth from years of comparing herself to her younger sister.

Raev was born to a wherhandler and a green rider in Ista Weyr. When she was 5, her younger sister, Krista, was born. Tragically, their mother died during the childbirth, so Raev does not remember her much. Their father was too occupied with his duties to raise them, so the care of the girls was left to the community, particularly by Marshall.
Marshall was a former brown rider whose dragon died during the war. He was friends with the girls' father, having served in the same wing, and took it upon himself to raise them. He was a caring father figure, and did his best to teach them skills needed so they could so they could be competent candidates when they were old enough.
Throughout their childhood, Raev and Krista were inseparable, with Raev constantly looking out for her little sister. Even though Marshall was an attentive father to the girls, but Raev felt obligated to help care for her sister, and was an overprotective older sibling. Krista was a outgoing, friendly, and playful little girl, whereas Raev was much more reserved and serious, even as a child.
At age 15, Raev became a candidate. Though she was solid in her studies, she had a hard time connecting with her fellow candidates. At her first standing, she did not impress. Same for the second, third, and fourth hatchings. After her fifth hatching where she was left standing, Krista joined her in the candidacy.
At first, Raev was happy to be able to spend time with her sister again. That excitement soon wore off, however, as she saw how quickly Krista was able to integrate herself into the environment and make friends. It didn't help that when they both stood at the next hatching, Krista impressed on the very first dragon that hatched, while Raev was left standing again.
Feeling left behind as Krista graduated onto weyrlinghood, Raev doubled down on her efforts and declared herself as a candidate for whers in addition to dragons. She continued to stand for several more hatchings without impressing.
In 2768, at age 25 she was paired with her wher partner. The wher, Rask, was so excited to meet her handler that she overeagerly clawed Raev's face, leaving her scarred.
Though the first encounter was painful and ended with Raev in the infirmary, she was relieved to have finally bonded. Once Raev was healed up enough, she dove into her new responsibilities headfirst. Rask felt guilty about their first meeting, but was eager to please Raev. Unfortunately for Raev, Rask was a cheery and playful wher who reminded her of Krista a little too much.
The early days of their partnership were a rocky. Rask was so desperate to make Raev happy that she kept trying to play with her. Raev didn't care to play, and wanted to focus entirely on work and training. This led to the two bickering often, until Rask refused to do any more work.
Frustrated, Raev caved and took Rask for a bath. She and Rask had a competition to see who could make the biggest splash in the river. Rask was so delighted that Raev couldn't help but crack a smile. Rask went back to doing her share Since, Raev schedules in appropriate time to play with Rask to keep her happy and working. Raev views this as part of the work routine, and not leisure time, and takes it as seriously as she does everything else.
The two have developed a stronger bond during the years, though they still bicker on occasion about how much play is an acceptable amount. Rask also tries to get Raev to come out of her shell more around other people, while Raev is constantly working to have Rask focus on the task at hand.
Raev and Rask made a good thread-fighting pair, though Raev has had some close calls with the deadly substance and has the scars to show it. Though she had never been particularly concerned with her appearance before, she couldn't help but notice that while she seemed to have a new scar every threadfall, Krista seemed to had made it through all of them unscathed. In addition, while Raev tolerated her wingmates, Krista was popular and well-liked amongst the riders and handlers alike.
Raev decided she's sick of constantly comparing herself to Krista and decided to transfer to High Reaches in 2775 at age 32. She still keeps to herself and focuses on her work above all else.
