His appearance is pretty adorable.
Palindrome is fair-skinned with a short mop of messy red hair, kept in a crewcut style atop his head. He is surprisingly agile, with his slender build and an almost effeminate look to his face and body shape, and he has large and trusting hazel green eyes & a cute button nose with freckles scattered liberally across his features.
There is also an happy smile that seems to perpetually exist on his face, apparently. Although, that’s not to say he’s never unhappy or capable of showing other emotions - he‘s able to display every other possible expression at any time - but he always manages to find his adorable smile eventually.
His hands and somewhat calloused fingers are dexterous and flexible due to constant writing and signing, and he wears slightly scruffy but quite serviceable clothing. A braided leather band is tied around his forehead, with its long ends left to dangle, and he enjoys wearing his favourite blue cloak everywhere. One could say his taste in said serviceable clothing is.. well, somewhat eccentric, and colourful, but it suits him!

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Often shy at first, normally a ‘quiet’ person, Palindrome is nevertheless quite often very unintentionally & unknowingly LOUD. Yes, you read that right. Pali is frequently noisy, though all the noise and racket is usually due to his complete deafness, although many chalked it up to his otherwise outgoing and bouncily excited young nature as well.
He is able to focus sometimes, although it can be ridiculously easy to distract him from whatever he’s doing just by touch/vibration, or flashing lights/glows, or moving/waving something in his line of sight, or even just taking something delicious-smelling (like bubbly pies) pass him! Despite all that, Pali still manages to be a reasonably good learner and is very much capable of literacy. He is quite perceptive for a weyrbrat, although he is kinda doing a bit of soul searching in terms of looking for his purpose or reason to exist.
Regardless of what that reason or purpose might end up being, Pali would love to Impress a dragon of his own!
Relatively young and impressionable, but still sometimes mature beyond his Turns, Palindrome loves to explore and enjoys travelling with his family and friends. The redheaded lad is very trusting, maybe a little too trusting of people. But hey, the kid’s still young!

Born in 2755 - the Turn that heralded the end of the Interval War - to blue and greenrider parents, secondborn son Palindrome was 3 when the 10th Pass began. As an oblivious youngster, he took no notice of Golre’s reign as he was far more interested in the smaller world that was his life, spent happily with his siblings in that expansive space of shared imagination and make-believe inhabited by all young children. At age 6, his parents were sent with those who went to fight Fort Weyr upon Golre’s bidding.
Fortunately for him, his parents were among the first of the blue and green riders who surrendered - and therefore surviving the entire ordeal - since they hadn’t really wanted to fight in the first place; but had still half-heartedly flown with the other fighters because they were doing their best to keep their heads down and avoid mad Golre’s notice. At least, the two riders hadn’t wanted to fight after struggling to deal with the awful aftermath of their blind participation in the Interval War, never mind that it had ended about six Turns prior by that point.
Anyway, Palindrome’s parents were able to return to High Reaches, and to the children they’d left in the crèche’s care, upon Golre’s death later that turn. Little Palindrome probably didn’t notice the entire Golre debacle at all, due to his young age and deafness at the time; although if he did, he doesn’t remember much of the Golre-inflicted events. Pali would eventually come to read about this time period later, though HR is now rebuilt and already dealing with a new host of problems.
Pali continued to happily live his weyrbrat life at High Reaches Weyr with his elder brother Palico and the rest of their family, as well as the other crèche kids. He particularly loved exploring the rabbit warren-like maze of the weyr and its outdoor surroundings, as well as going on the occasional dragonback rides his parents would take them on.
When he was 13, the deaf redhead wrote a sort-of-song slash poem slash story in his secret journal about how he had travelled the world and the seven seas; though in reality he had only really briefly visited some the other weyrs (Fort, Benden, Ista, Igen etc etc, although he hasn’t yet seen Semaca), the major Holds (HR, Fort, Ruatha and so on, especially when there were Gathers his family chose to travel to), as well as a few short glimpses of the sea from up high in the air on those occasional dragonback rides.
Palindrome’s history was fairly uneventful, really, as the young lad was pretty oblivious to all the dramas and politics going on around him. However, that wasn’t to say the deaf hazel-green-eyed kid never ‘heard’ any of the rumours or the gossip. He still managed to pick up whatever information he could get!
Such as the gossip and rumours about that recent surprise clutch, the latest of the aforementioned new host of problems High Reaches was currently experiencing.
Composed of two eggs/dragons apparently stolen from Fort Weyr somehow, the controversial and entirely unconventional Hatching had happened some sevendays before Pali finally turned 15 and became an official Candidate.
Probably just as well, since Pali is totally innocent of all sins. (Well, ok, maybe not every sin, but honestly can you blame him? He’s weyrborn! He’s perfectly capable of annoying/frustrating other people and yet still be endearing in that particular way weyrbrats have down pat! XD)
However, somewhere in the midst of those Turns he had lived at his home Weyr, Palindrome had had decided he wanted to be a dragonrider just like his parents.
He couldn’t pinpoint exactly when he had decided, only that this desire had come into existence in his mind at some point in his life. His brother Palico was already a candidate by this point, so Palindrome too followed in his footsteps and became an candidate alongside his much-adored brother the moment he turned fifteen.
