PLAY-BY: Kuruto Ryuki (AI: Nirvana Initiative)
FULL APPEARANCE: Ryuki isn't particularly tall, standing at around 5'6". For a Pernese man, he's definitely short, even if one considers that he is AFAB. He is slender, as well, with little strength or physical prowess of any kind. His short hair is black, which although clean looks somewhat unkempt, and his eyes are a muted brown in hue. He often looks slightly disheveled, in general, even when he wears nicer clothing. He does have a sense of style, but his shirt might be wrinkled, his collar uneven, something slightly off center, for example. Most of the feminine features of his body are well hidden, with clothing just baggy enough around the waist and chest, for example, to give the illusion of a more traditionally masculine, albeit slender, figure. He doesn't have the most feminine figure, regardless, and he binds as well. His facial features are relatively androgynous, making him appear maybe a bit younger, but still able to pass relatively well.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Ryuki believes in justice and morals, that everything should be fair. He is willing to fight for what he believes in, when push comes to shove, and is brave to the point of recklessness. Although he can be a pushover in social situations, he tends to make rash decisions, not considering the consequences, when it comes to moral beliefs. He wants to do the right thing and shows kindness to most. However, he thinks all people are either “good” or “evil.” He will be polite to those who are “good,” which is most people. He does not see the nuances in human nature.
In fact, he doesn’t see nuances at all, struggling with the gray between the black-and-white. When faced with decisions that aren't clearcut, especially moral dilemmas, he freezes up. He can be indecisive, outside of his instincts and impulses. He is lawful good and, to some extent, believes in order and hierarchy.
Many would describe Ryuki as reliable. He is a responsible man who believes in duty, who is utterly devoted to his loved ones and his sense of justice. He is loyal, as well - to his weyr, his loved ones, and so on. He works hard, with an earnest attitude. Ryuki is an honest, genuine person, one who assumes the same in others. He can be a bit of a stick in the mud. Everyone should try their best and work hard, and he doesn't seem to understand the concept of "relaxing" or "having fun." His sense of humor is limited, and he has few, if any, hobbies.
Ryuki feels like he has something to prove, and that something is that he's good enough. He tends to think he is a failure, with low self-esteem. This results in him trying too hard, working himself to the bone, pushing himself too far. He doesn't feel that he's worth much, and is generally stressed. He puts a lot of pressure on himself to be perfect, and when he inevitably makes mistakes, he internalizes it. He takes criticism of any kind poorly, tending to close up and shut down. Unfortunately, he doesn't change anything from this kind of feedback, instead just feeling extreme amounts of guilt and sadness, even hopelessness. He tends to feel guilt and regret easily, often taking on blame for things that have little to do with him.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
-Mother
-Father
-Aunt
-Fraternal twin - Kiran (brother - presumed deceased)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: (optional)
BIRTHPLACE: Cothold under High Reaches Hold (but nomadic)
HISTORY: CW: sibling death
Ryuki was born into a relatively well-off family. His parents, who were older than most at the time of his birth, were esteemed traders who had made a significant degree of wealth. Following their entrepreneurial successes, they had have a family. The traders paused at a cothold near High Reaches Hold, where they had family, so that his mother could give birth. Rather than finding themselves with a single child, they found themselves with two twin boys. Physically and emotionally, Kiran took after their father, while Ryuki himself was more like his mother.
As a youth, the boys had everything handed to him on a silver platter. They weren't particularly important, but their parents had marks, and they used those marks to spoil their sons. He was afforded only the best opportunities - the finest education, the best treats, and the finest clothing. Unfortunately, traveling with infants was difficult, so their parents left them with their aunt, who raised them. Still, their parents visited often, and the boys always looked forward to these visits.
Despite adoring his entire family, Ryuki was closest to his twin. They were always by each others' side. Kiran was brave and bold, with a strong sense of justice, while Ryuki tended to simply follow Kiran's lead.
The two never knew the worries that the dragonriders at the weyr felt, and by the time they had grown up, Golre's reign had ended. As a result, they never felt any hatred or fear of dragons. In fact, due to the sheltered nature of his home environment, he would not meet a dragon until he was 17. The two brothers had gone to High Reaches Hold for supplies, and a search dragon had decided that Ryuki had potential...but Kiran did not. Kiran was clearly heartbroken by the prospect of being passed over. Although Ryuki was immediately enamored with dragons, the regal creatures that they were, it was more important to him to stay by Kiran's side. He declined search at that time.
It was only two turns later, at 19, their family was due to arrive for a visit. When they finally came, a day later than anticipated, they indicated that their caravan had been attacked by bandits not far from the cothold, and advised caution to the small cothold. Kiran was enraged that bandits had stolen from his family. Without telling anyone but Ryuki--who promised to keep quiet, upon his brother's insistence--Kiran sneaked out of the cothold, hoping to find the bandits in the dead of night. He did not return.
In the morning, Ryuki told his family that Kiran had left in the middle of the night. A search party went out, but Kiran wasn't found. Ryuki felt extreme guilt when his parents told him. He expected Kiran to return...but he never did. He waited at home for a turn or two, but at 21, he decided that he had to move forward, for Kiran's sake. He moved to the weyr as a candidate, hoping to Impress a dragon and fight for justice. He hoped to live a life that Kiran would be proud of.
The first clutch he stood for was a donated clutch, from Telgar. He did not Impress. His second clutch was mystery eggs. When he discovered the source of them, he was grateful to have been passed over. His impressions of High Reaches became more negative. When individuals responsible were finally banished, however, he seemed more relaxed. Surely, that was the end of High Reaches' problems?
