FULL APPEARANCE: Often found slouching with his hands nested comfortably in his pockets, Jeveren always carries himself with a sheer lackadaisical calmness. At an average height and average build, his body type isn't really anything to remark on; he isn't 'muscular' by any means but he's not all skin and bones either. He tends to wear baggy, comfortable clothing with little respect for 'fashion' or 'style' - they cover him up, he doesn't care if they get dirty, and they don't get in the way. With an olive skintone and warm brown eyes above a smattering of freckles across his face, he has fairly soft features - save for a particularly nasty scar beneath his left eye. His dark brown hair is kept shaggy, and he keeps a patch of stubble on his face.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Jeveren doesn't have the most standout personality in the world - far from it, in fact. He is a fairly laid-back, kind and civil man with a go-with-the-flow approach to life; save for the fact that he doesn't always like the flow, and even this far into life he is still, somehow, astounded by the fact the flow doesn't always cater to him. He tries to keep a calm, level head, until something goes wrong, and then he starts to catastrophise, his speech becoming laced with sarcasm. He can't adapt well to inconvenience, or situations that are out of his control and can't be helped. He feels - stubbornly, that every change in his life should be on his terms, and there are times wherein he wants to grab life by the horns and steer it in the opposite direction. Whatever that direction is, he isn't sure, he isn't one to particularly make plans for the future, but every tiny inconvenience in his life seems to prompt him throwing his hands in the air and saying it's time for a complete life overhaul. Which often results in him taking whatever decision sounds like a good idea in the moment. Though he is of an average intelligence for the most part, Jeveren lacks critical thinking skills or any ability to plan ahead - everything is very black and white to him, and he doesn't particularly see the nuance in any given situation. As well as this, he is forgetful, and his short-term memory, especially, is poor. He only tends to remember things if he actually holds an interest in them - pertaining to his craft, for example.
Jeveren, however, is a deeply empathetic man. Even if he tries to present himself as cool-headed, he greatly desires love and affection - but he would never show this, for he keeps his thoughts and feelings private. The world of Weyr life baffles him, he hasn't yet broken out of the hold-born mindset and isn't quite yet used to the difference in culture. He isn't the most task-driven person, for he can definitely be lazy; he seems somewhat sleepy, a lot of the time, and doesn't have a great attention span. He doesn't tend to actually listen much, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care - he just drifts off, and gets distracted very easily. He's always willing to be a friend to someone, and he has nothing but good intentions - even if he sticks to the back of the room, more willing to comfort someone behind the scenes than stick up for them in the moment. Though he isn't at all shy, he doesn't really care to be a leader, or to be the centre of attention. He's just there, and that's fine to him - but he does, notably, have a competitive streak. A team leader, he is not, but he does find satisfaction in getting a leg up over others, sometimes.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Mother: Verena, farmer
Father: Jevon, farmer
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: High Reaches Hold
HISTORY: Jeveren had been, since as far back as he can remember, brought up with love and care from his parents; born in High Reaches Hold and raised by farmers. Whenever his parents weren't working, they would often take their son around the farms and show him all of the different plants, and as his childhood progressed they'd let him help out with odd jobs around the farm, planting vegetables and the like; yet, once he was in his pre-teens, they instead needed him to contribute more to the daily errands while they were busy. He didn't want to do chores, he wanted to be outside, basking in the world and discovering nature. He realised, then, he had a passion - something he actually found interesting, and he wanted to pursue it further.
So, he apprenticed Farmcraft.
He was elated when he found out he could do what he enjoyed for a job, and even if he had to make notes upon notes to make his learning worthwhile, he enjoyed it greatly. He wasn't so big on the classroom-learning part of it, that wasn't his vibe; more interested in the practical aspects where he could go out and learn by doing rather than listening. Sure, he could've just grown up to be a farmer like his parents - but he liked the idea of being a professional farmer with accolades to his name. A farmer who knew the science behind it, someone with a deep knowledge and interest in botany. That's what he wanted. He walked the tables at age twenty, being rewarded with a gift by his parents upon a visit home - a firelizard egg, hatching into a blue, whom he named Splat.
He continued his studies, getting through with the understanding he'd gathered of his specialist subject. He himself was surprised at how much he'd learned. Farmcraft didn't make him want to slack off and take naps like menial chores - or any other kind of work - would've, which gave him a sign, perhaps, that this was the right career path for him. He'd enjoyed his time, mostly, save for one incident wherein he fell upon harsh rocks trying to analyse plant life, leaving a scar on his cheek - but he didn't let that sway him for too long.
Everything changed in 2773, when a crop blight hit High Reaches, and he tried to figure out what exactly caused it, and more importantly, how they could cure it. It seemed very specifically stubborn, and Jeveren was very close to giving up - but fortunately, the crisis was averted when Semacan researchers realised the answer was... bat poop. Nonetheless, at least it was a solution, even if it was a fairly unpleasant one. Food supplies slowly began to pick up, worries were settled, and they had Semaca to thank for their help.
And then a turn later, a mudslide hit the hold, destroying it, and they had to evacuate. So much progress was lost - the blight was bad, but this was worse. It would likely take a while for the hold to recover, so Weyr-bound he was; and he was instantly shocked by what Weyr life was like. The dragons were cool, but people were just so, so different here to how they were in the hold. In 2774, not long after he moved, he thought - with all these signs, it was time for a change. He thought, why not... become a candidate? He only had two turns left for dragons, but many more for whers. It was worth a shot, at least. He'd made his decision; he enjoyed his time in Farmcraft, but he felt that even in the Weyr, he had skills he could still put to use, even if he had other priorities, now. He was already a Journeyman - that was good enough for him. Riding on to be a Master was one thing, but defending the world from Thread felt like a risky job, but one he was definitely interested in. Even if he wasn't so down with the candidate lifestyle.
