FULL APPEARANCE: Sandyr isn't one to spend masses of time on his appearance for the most part. He wants to look like he put some effort in, sure, but beyond making sure his clothing is clean and his hair isn't completely bed ruffled (some ruffle is good) he's never going to be one to spend hours in front of the mirror. He keeps his hair reasonably short for the most part, it being prone to curls when it gets too long, but he does leave it a little longer towards the front at the top - enjoying having something a little bit different for people to notice about him.
Clothing wise he leans towards the practical - favouring darker colours and simple styles. Chances are it will get dirt on it at some point during the day, so might as well not advertise the fact or make more work when washing them. He does own a couple of nicer items which he keeps for rest days or evenings he isn't working, but for the most part his daily 'uniform' is fairly unexciting.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Calm under pressure and not prone to outbursts of emotion, there is a quiet steadiness to Sandyr. He comes across as someone to depend on, someone to rely on, and he will willingly accept that role for himself where it's needed. Perhaps he'll rarely be the first one to jump to anyone's assistance, but Sandyr is good at the small, quiet gestures - he'll move over on a bench to make room for someone, or pour someone else a drink if they're stood with him, generally silent acts that are none the less polite, meant to be friendly.
Not that Sandyr is particularly quick to let people close to him, for all that he's polite and willing to quietly look out for people, he does so while keeping an emotional distance. He'll flirt and he'll talk, but for the most part it will be kept at a surface level - internally, he keeps his guard up and resists letting people close.
He's found it easier that way, if he doesn't let people in, it hurts less when they impress, or move on, and their priorities change. He always tries not to begrudge them their bonds, but he's not immune to the stab of jealousy that can follow. Jealousy that also rears it's head when someone has managed to slip through his guard, once befriended, Sandyr struggles to share his friends - both jealous when they show affection to others, but also insecure - worried they'll find someone better.

Born and raised at Ista Weyr, the son of a blue rider Tidyre and the bronze rider S'nir, Sandyr entered the creche almost as soon as he was born and grew up there quite happily. It was normal, he didn't know any different and in actuality he loved that there was always someone around to play with and talk to - he was never short of friends, and while he did have a few actual half-siblings (both older and younger) in the creche with him, in his mind the whole creche was his family. His parents checked in on him sure, but they were busy and life was life.
When he was old enough he started helping in the dragon infirmary, at first just running and fetching and cleaning up, but progressing to helping more and more. It was interesting, and was a good craft to compliment a rider, but at the end of the day though, Sandyr was simply waiting until he turned 15 when he could stand and impress, so there was never any expectation of working in the infirmary ever becoming something he did to make him a better rider in the long run. It was a useful skill to know but he was never intending for it to become his whole life - and the possibility never tempted him, or even crossed his mind in his teens.
Sandyr didn't expect to impress first time, indeed some of his siblings had stood two or three times before finding their bonded, however Sandyr never doubted it was going to happen, at least, not for the first few turns. Of course he'd impress, dragon riding was in his blood. However as sibling after sibling and friend after friend impressed, the odd moment of uncertainty started to creep in. Infrequent at first, but as he passed twenty and still remained a candidate Sandyr's confidence began to waver. Shards, even his half-brother S'len had impressed (on his first time no less) and he hadn't even been raised in the Weyr. Sooner or later a Dragon would choose him, right?
Which apparently wasn't to be the case, at least not at Ista, and while he knew perhaps he should have just accepted his lot - turned his focus to his craft full time, Sandyr wasn't ready to accept it as inevitable. Perhaps it was just wishful thinking, or he was burying his head in the sand and ignoring the truth, but High Reaches had to be worth a try at least surely. Not to mention, the occasional comments his mother made when they spent time together and the slightly pitying looks he got from siblings and friends who'd impressed where slightly depressing - a new start didn't seem entirely like a bad idea.
So he requested a transfer to High Reaches. Grasping the opportunity for five more turns worth of chances with hope.
