FULL APPEARANCE: Small, delicate in face, and fairly androgynous, Fenix isn’t the kind of person you can easily guess the gender of at first glance. Many times he has been mistaken for a woman, and this trend will likely continue even into his adulthood with his softer features. His naturally vibrant, dark red hair is an unusual and beautiful shade, though not extremely rare, and his eyes an equally memorable shade of dark blue. His skin is the kind of pale you’d think would make him a spoiled son of somebody high in the hierarchy, but in truth he’s simply naturally very fair-skinned. He wears delicately made leather bracelets along one arm. He prefers simple clothing, however, well-made tunics and robes hand-stitched by himself before he even became a candidate.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Fenix is someone who can only be described as perpetually anxious. Even in his home hold, he was rather timid, but as a fairly new candidate in an unfamiliar Weyr, he rarely stops feeling anxious. He’s avoidant of any kind of social interaction, but especially so with men, panicking having to speak with any guy he finds remotely attractive. He’s rather clumsy when feeling his anxiety, prone to dropping things or tripping over himself more often than not. He is capable of handling women just a little bit better, finding it easier to speak with them as friends when he’s not worrying about finding them attractive.
He’s a very kind individual, finding it in himself to help people out as much as he can no matter how much they scare him. It doesn’t matter what the task is, if he thinks he can help he is glad to, gaining happiness through helping others. Thus far, this kind streak has manifested itself in helping candidates who aren’t as talented in sewing learn how to properly mend their own clothes or other cloth items. On occasion he can also be found telling stories to the Weyr’s young children, or running errands for some of the busier members of the Weyr in his spare time.
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of his personality is just how hard Fenix works to keep himself physically fit. While he’s no muscle-bound tank of a human being, he genuinely enjoys exercise and spending time working on improving and maintaining his own body. As a candidate he’s fully aware of the fact that being physically strong will only help him if he ever impresses, and has long since decided that it is best if he keeps up in his physical health as much as his other lessons, hobbies, and errands.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Arslan (45) - Father | Smith
Fayn (42) - Mother | Master Tailor
Faye (13) - Younger Sister | Apprentice Smith
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: High Reaches Hold
HISTORY: Fenix was born to a young couple in High Reaches hold, a young man and woman who had been trying to have a child for a couple turns without success. This couple was Fayn and Arslan, a Tailor and Smith who were both at the journeyman level at the time. Caring for the baby Fenix was a challenge at times, especially when it came time to feed him, but the couple loved him as their son, difficult child or not.
Growing up, while he was not spoiled, he was treated well by his parents, especially once he’d reached four turns. Fayn had become pregnant with their second child, and overjoyed, the couple made sure to treat Fenix as well as possible so he felt no jealousy for the new baby. Little did they expect that young Fenix never felt even the slightest jealousy, but instantly loved his younger sister, born slightly early and smaller than she should have been. He was very protective and gentle to her, no matter how old the two of them got he was always there to keep her safe if she needed it.
And then, at 13, he chose to apprentice in his mother’s craft, liking the idea of making and mending clothes more than the art of shaping metal. He wasn’t around the house as often to help his sister out, but was no less protective of her, and would make time for her even with his duties as an apprentice. At first, Fenix wasn’t very good at tailoring. His stitches were often too loose or too big, and the things he made weren’t quite as good quality. However, he improved himself quite quickly, and by the time he was 17 turns he was quite comfortable with simple clothing design and mending.
Sometime during his apprenticeship, when he was not much older than 15, he ended up buying a hunt bird who’d taken a liking to him, a pretty young falcon chick he quickly named Circos. She swiftly became his closest companion, though she retained an independent streak that Fenix encouraged.
However, any plans to continue in his craft were swiftly dismantled when one day, he was scouted for candidacy. Fenix was unhappy at the thought of being alone in the Weyr, not wanting to leave behind his parents and sister, but there was nothing he could do about the homesickness he knew he would feel, not the anxiety at interacting with new people without his family by his side. He did feel a certain desire to go, though, and thus he agreed. To cheer him up Fayn and Arslan gave him presents of beautiful crafted leather bracelets, to remind him of them, something they’d initially been saving to give to him upon becoming a journeyman. Shortly after, he was taken to the Weyr, where he’s now learning the ins and outs of candidacy.
Shortly after arriving at the Weyr, he happened to be present for a clutch of Firelizards hatching, and to the surprise of himself he not only impressed one, but found himself with a new little gold companion, whom he affectionately named Guin.
