FULL APPEARANCE:
Anabella is an extremely proper holdbred woman. Her posture is always immaculate, as are her clothes and hair. She speaks as properly as any great lord or lady, her tone clipped and precise, her words chosen with care. She rarely has much emotion in her voice when she speaks. She tends to wear expensive gowns, opting for propriety and status over practicality in most instances. She tends to wear her hair in an elaborate bun, with her bangs loose and off to one side to elegantly frame her face. She tends to wear dark blue and black to emphasize her newfound allegiance to High Reaches Weyr.
She has an oval face with a perpetually severe expression, platinum blonde hair, delicate eyebrows, slightly thin lips, and a button nose. Her makeup is always tasteful, exactly the right amount for a woman of her standing.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Anabella is cold. She would describe it as practicality, but it comes across as coldness. She is ruthless, ambitious, arrogant, elitist, and extremely close-minded. She views people less in terms of who they are and more in terms of what they can do for her. Her children are very little exception. While she is never outright hostile to anyone, she can be extremely condescending, and will often give backhanded compliments, but she is never so uncouth as to deliver an insult directly. On the positive side, however, since she tends not to care about others, she is calm in a crisis and can easily make decisions others might find difficult.
She does care for her husband, in her own way, seeing him as a means to an end, feeling the same about her sons, assuming they aren't disappointing her in some way. She definitely prefers her youngest child of the two boys, and does not hide that favoritism. She sees Clive's clinginess towards his father as a sign of weakness, and any mistake he makes just validates this opinion. Meanwhile, she believes that Joshua's health issues necessitate him to be stronger in order to perform the same tasks as everyone else. This is neither a correct nor healthy opinion, but it is one she believes in wholeheartedly.
Anabella believes in hierarchies, and adheres to them very strictly, regardless of if its in fashion at her new home Weyr. She also has some odd ideas about how the world works, and seems absolutely incapable of being persuaded otherwise no matter how many examples to the contrary she is shown. The most evident being that she somehow came to the idea that the only females among dragonkind of any species are the golds. She also only really bothers to remember the difference between golds and bronzes, and tends to lump all chromatics together as being 'unimportant'. Another major misconception she has is that metallic dragons and whers will only bond to 'worthy' candidates, meaning the candidates who have strong willpower and resolve. Since she sees Clive as being weak-willed, it is her firm belief that he will never bond to anything metallic (firelizards don't count, obviously) and as a result will never live up to the standards she has set for him.

HISTORY:
Anabella was born one of several children to wealthy stewards at the Hold, and was raised as though her family intended for her to be an eligible marriage candidate for any lord holder or lord holder's son who might need one. However, the timing of things didn't work out quiet right for anyone in the general vicinity of High Reaches, and most lord holders found it simpler to find marriage candidates closer to home. So at 20, Anabella decided to marry Elwin, as she thought his having a bronze wher made him the next best thing status-wise to marrying a bronzerider (which was apparently not a thing they would do, she was shocked to learn).
When it finally dawned on her that the color of a wher did not transfer over power and authority to its handler in the same way it did with dragons, she was not deterred. Surely, she reasoned, a man who could bond himself to a bronze wher had the kind of potential to perhaps give her children with the qualities to become riders, which would surely elevate her own status. At the worst, her children would have qualities befitting handlers of golds and bronzes (which was not how it worked, but none of Elwin's explanations every managed to stay in her mind for very long). At 22, she gave birth to Clive, thrilled beyond words to have potential, future bronzerider as a son. But as he got older and clung to his father's side like a burr, she thought him weak. Her second child, though sicker, had far more strength of character in her eyes, and was far more likely to ride or handle bronze. She raised her boys according to these impressions.
When the landslide destroyed High Reaches Hold in 2774, Anabella saw it as an excellent excuse to permanently relocate her family to High Reaches Weyr. Surely there the color hierarchy would be respected among wherhandlers, no? She was very much mistaken, but did not allow this to deter her. Once she has lived at High Reaches long enough, once Joshua impresses to the glorious bronze dragon or wher he is destined for, she will transfer them to another Weyr, one where they'll be given the respect and power she's always deserved.
