PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Kvar is a very strict and serious individual, with the only time he tends to crack a smile being around his niblings. He likes to devote most of his life to his career as a smithcrafter and aspires to one day become a master of his craft. He has a strong pride when it comes to the pieces he's worked on, boasting about how he improved them and made them much stronger than they previously would have been. In all honesty, it can be seen as grating due to how often he boasts about himself and his family to the point he seems hardheaded about anyone else. Even as a child, he would boast about his older sister becoming a dragonrider and becoming one of the greatest that High Reaches Weyr would ever have.
Family is very important to him, though. He loved his older sister and was deeply hurt at her death, having been her shoulder when she vented and cried over her weyrmate's own death. When Kvar had time, he would often visit his niece and nephew in the creche and tell them stories about how heroic their parents were. He even cried tears of joy when Raine impressed, boasting about how wonderful of a dragonrider she would be and even boasting when she became a council member.
However, along with his pride, he had a strong hatred of bronzes and golds, due to the mistreatment of his sister and her weyrmate when he arrived at the weyr. To him, bronze and gold dragonriders are NOT to be trusted. They had chosen to be horrible to his family. He is one to hold a grudge, still remaining resentful of Golre after her death and resenting the bronzes who supported her. This grudge even goes to younger bronze and gold dragonriders as well.

In all honesty, Kvar wouldn't have minded staying in High Reaches Hold his entire life. He was born to a pair of farmers, the younger brother to a young girl named Virginia. Kvar was especially close with his older sister as they grew up. While she had dreams of taking to the skies, his desires were more grounded in reality, as he would remark.
Kvar, even as a child, had a desire to become a smithcrafter, saying he would be the pride and joy of their family. This did annoy Virginia a bit, so she would often tease her little brother. However, due to his attitude, he didn't make many friends, with his main one being his older sister.
While Kvar began his training as an apprentice at the age of eight, his sister would help their parents around on the farm. This was also when he began to learn how to read and write, learning it along with his apprentice skills. In a way, he pitied his sister, not believing she would be searched.
Until the day it actually happened.
He barely got to say goodbye before she was off to High Reaches Weyr. He deeply missed her, but he was sure that, once he became a journeyman, he would be able to move into her weyr and be able to reunite with her. Thus, he focused on his studies, working hard. He was a bit jealous as well that he was not the pride of his parents' eye, but it didn't matter. He was happy his sister was now going to become a dragonrider.
As soon as he became a journeyman, at the age of twenty, he was off to High Reaches Weyr. It did not take him long to reunite with his sister.. and meet her weyrmate. To say Kvar was not a fan to begin with was an understatement. However, it was clear he and Virginia deeply cared for each other.
Something that Kvar absolutely hated though was how High Reaches Weyr was ran. Golre, the Weyrwoman, was.. in his words.. a cruel, heartless witch. Kvar had to watch his sister cry at night for the bullying and harassment she received from the brown and bronze riders. He tried many times to get his sister to leave the weyr, to find a new home. However, Virginia told him continuously that she was loyal to her weyr, no matter what happened. Kloitz and her often fought in the war, despite greens being viewed as simple fodder.
It was not all bad, though. Seven years after Kvar arrived, Virginia would have the first of two children, a young girl named Raine. When Kvar had free time, he would visit his niece in the creche.
Tragedy would eventually strike the family hard, though. While Virginia was expecting their second child, Kloitz had died in battle. Kvar was horrified and he stayed by his sister's side, supporting her whichever way he could. The birth of his nephew, Genis, was both a wonderful and horrible day. Kvar was grief stricken at the loss of his sister, but he had to remain strong. When he visited his niece and nephew, he had a smile on his face, no matter how he felt on the inside.
At least that Faranth damned war was over.
Along with this, in five years time, Golre would fall during her attacks on Fort Weyr. Things began to change for the better at High Reaches and Kvar was saddened to know his sister and her weyrmate would not get to see their children grow up. That was when he decided: He would make sure that his niece and nephew grew up with strong morals so that they would make their parents proud.
However, his anger towards gold and bronze dragonriders did not change, and he made his hatred of them well known to his niece and nephew. This especially affected Genis, who began to harbor the same feelings as his uncle. He shed tears of joy when Raine became a candidate and, while he was unable to watch her impress, he was proud of her when she finally returned to High Reaches Weyr with Spriggth. He did hope that Genis would impress, as he also chose to become a candidate, at High Reaches Weyr so he could watch him impress.
Admittedly, he was busy and ended up missing it, but he is incredibly proud of his nephew. He was delighted to see both of his niblings ended up impressing green dragons.
Just like their parents.
