BASICS

RETIRE INFO: Adopt both
NAME: G'li
GENDER: Cis male
PRONOUNS: He/him
ORIENTATION: Panromantic heterosexual

BIRTHDATE: Early Winter 2702
AGE: 73 as of Early Summer 2775
LOCATION: High Reaches Weyr
OCCUPATION: Bronzerider
WING: Retired

APPEARANCE
EYES: Brown
HAIR: Brown
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 5'5", stocky
PLAY-BY: John Rhys-Davies (as Gimli from Lord of the Rings)
FULL APPEARANCE:
Compared to most men on Pern, G'li is short. And some might say he is as wide as he is tall, for he is built more like a tree-trunk than an actual human being. His strength never has been in question, even if he isn't quite as spry as he used to be. Of course, he'll deny that if someone ever brings it up, but the age is slowly getting to him. He wears practical clothing, only dressing "frivolously" and "fancy" for feasts, sometimes. His defining feature is his magnificent beard, which he keeps long and braided. It's been shortened now and then from various Threadfall mishaps, but he takes expert care of it.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
A friendly, rather jovial older bronzerider, G'li is someone you'd want to have a drink with. Maybe several drinks, that's just how he is. He's an easy man to get along with, even if he gets pretty rowdy when there's a good party going on. If there's a fight? Even better! Maybe G'li was raised in a barn, but this short, loud man is generally a joy to be around. He loves his dragon, and all of his children. He's always willing to stroke his beard and give friendly advice, preferably over a drink. This man indeed loves his ale.

But for as friendly as this man is, he is also very set in his ways, and very stubborn. He isn't sure if he likes how High Reaches runs things. Golds should be leading, shouldn't they? But if the Council is doing fine (sometimes, he's not a fool), why can't goldriders sit on the Council permanently? G'li may not be an intellectual, but he's got his opinions. If it works, fine, but in his eyes it hasn't been working too well recently. He cannot be easily swayed from his opinions, even if they are terrible ones. Change comes slowly, and with a lot of time. He's rude when he doesn't like someone, and there's nothing that can really make him like you again if you've wronged him or his children.

HISTORY:
Born to a brownrider and a greenhandler on a late autumn night, Gimli was truly destined to be short and stay short. Even as he grew, in the creche, Gimli was small but scrappy and strong. He never seemed deterred by his size, and it was his good nature that made him plenty of friends. While never really "popular", he got along with pretty much everyone around him. And those he didn't get along with? Well... let it never be said that Gimli backed down from a fight.

He was 15, and fresh into candidacy when his match came to him. At an uneventful hatching, a gorgeous bronze the color of a forge, and deep veins of gold in a mine, came to him. Ereborth, his true and only soulmate, didn't care if he was short, or if he was brash and fighty. The bronze was his, and Gimli - now G'li - was determined to be the greatest dragonrider that the world could ask for. They worked hard through weyrlinghood, graduating and ready to defend Pern from whatever could befall it.

He was 28 when the Interval War began.

G'li had not exactly signed up to be a soldier, but that was what was asked of him. He struggled, initially, to balance his identity of being a soldier and a dragonrider. Sure, it was not something he truly considered. Dragonriders weren't supposed to fight each other.

Somewhere in the madness of it all, G'li's first daughter was born. Though he could not truly be there to raise her, he did his best to check on her in the creche, to make sure she knew he was trying. That was the state of many of his children, that he could not fully be their father, but he did everything he could to ensure that they were happy and spared from the madness that was the war. Unfortunately, trying to discourage them from becoming riders did not really work, and many of them wished to join the ranks, either in the skies or on the ground. There was always so much more to do, and many long days were spent trying to find a balance between the war and the children.

It seemed like many, many turns before the War ended, only to be greeted with Thread. And fighting Thread was different than fighting dragons. G'li and Ereborth both took their hits more than once. It was an adjustment, as all things were, really. They had to keep fighting.

When Vanity - a bluerider - became Weyrleader, G'li found himself questioning his own views of the world. Perhaps his grumbling was undue, and perhaps it wasn't his place to judge. Though he initially treated the upset with disdain, over the turns G'li found himself warming up to the bluepair - but only after he had seen how they repeatedly handled Threadfall. It was not an easy thing for him to accept, and some days he found that he still didn't. Old habits always died hard and this was certainly one of them.

After many tumultuous turns, and his youngest daughter turned 20, G'li decided it was time to retire. Or, well "retire" as best he could. He and Ereborth put in their transfer to High Reaches Weyr. His children were adults, they could all find their ways and take care of themselves, they didn't need him looking after them now.

Ereborth

BASICS

NAME: Ereborth
BIRTHDATE Late Spring 2717
AGE: 58 as of Early Spring 2775

APPEARANCE
LENGTH: 53ft
HEIGHT: 13.25ft
WINGSPAN: 79.5ft
COLOR: Bronze
HEX CODE: #DEB658
FULL APPEARANCE:
While not the largest bronze, Ereborth is stunning. He is the color of a forge, or a cavern with gold veins running through it. He is average in his size and proportions, only his coloration makes him noteworthy. He is a deep, dark bronzey color, with his wingsails a lighter, golden-bronze hue. Dark bronze tendrils streak over the undersides of his wings. His proper markings are intricate, geometrical patterns. Over his head, like a crown, on his forelegs like bracers, his hind legs like wonderful ornaments, and over his tail. They're very striking, making him look rather regal.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
A proud, haughty dragon who wishes to sit upon a mountain of gold. Ereborth is smug, and he demands to be adorned with riches and amass his hoard of dragon's treasure. The only reason that G'li's weyr is not overflowing with marks and stolen items is because G'li is stubborn, and Ereborth can no longer fit into the caverns to demand things from unsuspecting weyrfolk. He demands to be adored. There is one thing he has in his possession, a large, shiny stone that G'li purchased from a gather. Even though he is much larger now, Ereborth keeps this stone tucked close to him whenever he is resting, and has bitten people (who are not G'li's family) who get too close to it. If anything, Ereborth does not realize that G'li is really a treasure ,and would much rather believe he will one day be king of the Weyr and be able to just burrow into his treasure. After all, someone as regal as himself deserves this.
