"Step out of the dark into better light
And carry your scars like a badge of pride
You’ve come so far
You know who you are
And all this time you’ve had the will inside
To stand your ground the day that hell arrives"

TW - description of scars
Standing ridiculously tall at a slender yet strong 6’10ft, Saekri has long waist-length black hair with a slightly windswept fringe, held back with a bright red bandanna covered with white polka dots wrapped atop her crown, as well as a pair of equally black eyebrows. She has dark brown skin (with freckles on her rounded oval-shaped face from the sun), a small, soft mouth and a pert nose, as well as one piercing ice-blue eye.
What’s left of her other eye is permanently hidden from view, scored beneath large and vividly pink-skin-coloured claw-mark shaped scars bestowed from a spotty attack. The uglily raised and ragged lines stretched from above her right eyebrow, slicing through it and down over the destroyed remnants of her closed eye, almost curving across her cheek to where her jawline began. As a result, the right side of her face is a bit stiff and not quite as mobile as the rest of her otherwise lovely face, giving her a slightly rakish visage.
Saekri tends to prefer tunics and leggings, though she can often be found wearing skirts and dresses a lot, due to the constant warmth of hot-weather climates such as Ista and Semaca. She also owns pants and long-sleeved clothing in case of rarely-experienced cold weather, and will probably add the leathers and other general dragonrider gear to her wardrobe choices if/when she Impresses. Saekri also has a good-quality belt hung with all the usual odds and ends - such as a marks pouch and her favourite small knife in its sheath - fitted snugly around her hips.
Saekri carries herself with pride, although Depth Perception is hard with one working eye, so she can be seen occasionally tripping over or bumping into (or misjudging the distances/nearness of) random things & people. She is also often found strolling about with her loyal, fierce-looking big feline by her side.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Saekri is a fighter and a survivor through and through; a tall iron-willed young woman with nerves of steel. She is very determined and frankly, quite the stubborn gal, though she is cunning enough to roll with the punches. She’s gutsy enough to stand her ground in the face of danger, even if it means standing on her own.
Saekri is quite confident in herself for her age, giving off the appearance of a young woman who knows exactly who she is; although she still feels somewhat unsettled on the inside, as she is continually learning how to navigate her world with only one working eye (& her other senses in tandem) instead of the two-eyed vision she was used to. She really dislikes having difficulties with properly judging the distance/nearness of other people, creatures and objects accurately, as well as always being easily startled or blindsided by anything approaching from her right side; though she can begrudgingly live with it.
(Her Depth Perception abilities’ll improve with time, fortunately, though she believes it’ll probably never be as good as it once was.)
Interestingly, instead of being filled with rage or hatred toward the spotties because of her scars, she still finds herself liking - and treating with respect - the big felines; tending to observe them with compassionate admiration. Saekri’s still reasonably wary around the spotties of course (she’s not dumb enough to make the same mistake twice), but she doesn’t really blame the spotties in general for the loss of her eye.
(Well, ok, apart from maybe the one that attacked her, but yeah. That one has vendetta written all over it. Anyway, she definitely has a soft spot for all felines!)
Speaking of felines. Saekri enjoys the company of her own feline pet - Felida - and will absolutely admire any felines belonging to others in her vicinity.
As an average Istan, she clearly relished in the heat of hot-weather climates - practically thriving in the perpetual warmth of Semaca Weyr - where most candidates hailing from the much-colder northern continent would probably wilt.
Saekri is also literate, with an desire to learn new things, to dream of new horizons, and experience as much of everything she can. That includes possibly being a dragonrider (or wherhandler) herself one day...

BIRTHPLACE: Ista
HISTORY:
TW: Plague & mention of death, spotty attack (mentions of blood, mauling, injury etc), brief mention of Semaca flooding
The secondborn daughter to Holder parents in Turn 2753, Saekri spent much of her childhood roaming around her hot tropical island home of Ista. She had never known a life without Thread; as the Interval War ended and the 10th Pass began, she had been little more than a playful 2-to-5-Turns-old toddler - with no memory of what life had been like before - as she played constant games of make-believe and lived within imaginary worlds only existing in her mind (and in the minds of all young children).
As Saekri grew older, she became more and more aware of the world around her; learning of other parts of Pern that existed beyond the sea-girdled shores of Ista through her Teaching Ballads and the Harper lessons in her family’s Hold. At 10/11 Turns, the Plague of Summer 2764 struck the entirety of Pern, causing widespread death and chaos. Her family was among those fortunate enough to survive, though the population of their Holding was severely decimated. Eventually, upon the finally receding plague’s heels that Turn, news of the summerlands’ discovery came as a very welcome distraction.
The following Turn, the young Weyr established there was officially recognised - “Semaca Weyr!” was often said with wonder - and Saekri’s family began the process of having their request to move to Semaca by the next Turn approved through official channels.
Eventually, they were able to move by the time she was 13, and the first thing that had struck her upon arriving in Semaca from between adragonback, was how similar the heat felt to the warm climate of her old Istan home. The second thing, was how drastically different the mostly unexplored and uncharted Semacan scenery was - desert and jungle and sea - from Ista’s tropical-island scenery. Saekri would find herself falling more and more in love with Semaca as the Turns rolled on by.
A mere season before she turned fifteen, a small foraging party - herself included in its numbers - fell victim to a spotty attack. Saekri, being the stubborn and gutsy gal she was, risked her own life as she determinedly stood her ground and did her best to defend the group. The skirmish was swift and bloody - leaving a third of her party injured at various levels, despite their best efforts - before the spotties suddenly slinked away into the trees in pursuit of something else. Saekri was among the badly injured - she had been mauled across her face and part of her torso, and subconsciously knew she had probably just lost an eye to spotty claws - and was drifting in and out of awareness as she tried to deal with the intense pain.
Fortunately, they were able to collectively limp home without further incident, and all were promptly sent into the care of the nearest people with even a shred of Healer abilities. Saekri spent several sevendays recovering - nothing could be done for her eye, save for the Healers doing their best to prevent infection; her face left permanently scarred, though the wounds on the rest of her body were able to slowly fade away with time - and she managed to pull through with a newfound survivor’s attitude.
By the time she had healed enough to leave her makeshift Healer’s Ward, now-15-Turns-old Saekri was sitting outside in the sunshine when a rider happened to land nearby with his dragon. To her astonishment, the dragon told her that she had the Candidate spark (or whatever it was that made one eligible for Candidacy), and, to her family’s even greater surprise, Saekri accepted the offer.
Her family acquiesced to the inevitable - it was known that once Saekri set her mind on something, it was often so extremely difficult as to be near-impossible (though not truly impossible!) to divert her. One day, she was outside the Weyr on a numbweed-gathering mission when she came upon the most tiniest, scruffiest - and apparently abandoned - blue-eyed feline kitten she’d ever seen mewling pitifully by the roadside barely three dragon-lengths away from the Weyr. Poor creature! Saekri’s heart went out to the little scruffy kitten, and - forgetting for a few moments her unsettled uneasiness borne from losing her eye so recently - made the snap decision to keep her.
Saekri christened the little feline ‘Felida’, and thus named, carried her back in her arms into their new lives. For the next Turn, she learned as much as she could in Candidacy, and did her best to care for the growing kitten with all the devotion of a parent rearing their young. Over time, as Felida continued to grow - the spots and rings and other patterns slowly disappearing from her reddish brown fur - and grow and grow until she was no longer a tiny scrap of a kitten, but quite a large feline indeed; it slowly dawned on a slightly-chagrined Saekri that her Felida was no ordinary domestic feline... Felida now stood nearly as tall as Saekri’s hips, and before long there were rumours of the gutsy one-eyed candidate with her large and fiercely loyal feline companion by her side spreading like wildfire through the Weyr’s rumour mill, alongside the rumours of pirates and the like.
Like everyone else, the pair did their part to help their understaffed and struggling Weyr survive and overcome the challenges presented by the severe floods of Turns 2768 - 2769, and by the time she turned 17, a new gold clutch sat upon Semacan sands. It would be the first clutch she’d ever Stand for.. Saekri often found herself beginning to wonder in the occasional quiet moments she had in between lessons and chores and social interactions - Would she Impress a dragon from one of those eggs?
That was a hope shared by all the Candidates here for this clutch, she was sure.
