FULL APPEARANCE: N'tel bears himself as any Dragonrider should, posture correct and bearing confident. He stands around 6'3", his build athletic from turns of hard work and dutiful training. He keeps his hair short out of necessity, though the blonde curls are rarely ever neat; most often he just leaves it to its own devices, figuring it's for the best. A bit of a beard trails his jaw and he sports a mild mustache, but otherwise he doesn't particularly stand out.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Down-to-earth and reasonable are two qualities N'tel would like to claim he has, and in some way he's not wrong. He's good at thinking ahead and making decisions based on fact and circumstances rather than emotion, but when there is stress or pressure involved, he tends to fold. His gut instinct when he has no time to think something over is to flee from it, push it far away, and try to pretend it does not exist. It makes him a bit of an avoidant person, to the point where he loses opportunities and has choices made for him at times.
This also tends to lead him to avoiding commitments in general, from relationships to career decisions. It's not so much a fear of what could go wrong as it is an uncertainty regarding unknowns that keeps him from settling on something at times. Short term decisions, like what to eat for dinner, are easy; longer term decisions that impact one's life are much harder to make. He may try to act laid back and like things don't bother him, but he doesn't like not knowing how events will pan out.
As such, N'tel doesn't particularly care for drama. He finds it a little tedious and a lot unnecessary. Why bother with so many miniscule problems when there are more concrete things to contend with? Why stress over who's dating who when Thread continues to fall from the sky? Life moves on regardless of the little things, and yet he still often finds himself wrapped up in them. He has a knack for either creating drama with his own decisions or getting sucked into it somehow. Even if he would rather spend his time exploring, bettering his Weyr, and having a good time.
Perhaps his greatest weakness is a pretty face, be it man, woman, or anyone else. Any person with a pretty face could likely grab his attention and keep it to an extent, and it's not beyond N'tel to end up doing something just because someone he finds attractive asked sweetly. Maybe it makes him easily manipulated or gullible, he doesn't care. He just enjoys the attention.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Mother: Norella, weaver, 47
Father: Angitel, farmer, 46
Sister: Anella, weyrfolk, 25
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
BIRTHPLACE: Cothold beholden to Fort Weyr
HISTORY: Born in a place of relative peace meant Noritel had a fairly easy childhood, at least from a young age. His parents were simple folk, his father a farmer and mother a weaver, and not even a Turn after Noritel was born they were graced with a daughter. It was only natural for Noritel to follow his father around, entertained by the man's craft. There was always something pleasant about being with the crops and working the earth.
As he grew, Noritel became as fascinated with dragons as many young folk do. Being in a smaller cothold meant he rarely was afforded the chance to see one, but just as he reached the age where he would be eligible for Candidacy, he was conveniently picked up on Search. It helped that any time a dragon graced their home he was one of the first to offer his assistance to them and their rider, so his parents were not particularly surprised.
Noritel did not hesitate to leave his small home in favor of a new life at Fort Weyr. The dream of riding a dragon would soon become a reality, and his optimism helped when it took a couple clutches to finally meet his match. His sister followed in his steps shortly after, although she had moved on to Telgar Weyr instead. At last, green Sinnath chose him, and he knew that his destiny had finally arrived. 2763 was the finest Turn of his life, if only because he and Sinnath spent so much of it getting to know one another.
As a Weyrling at Fort Weyr, N'tel and Sinnath did their best to be what they could. Like so many other Weyrlings, they strove to prove themselves in their lessons and in their training, taking to the skies like they were meant to be there. N'tel in particular found flying to be the best absolute thing ever. While neither of them tended towards any particular need for ambition or power, both found Fort Weyr a little...dramatic.
Neither cared for politics or the push and pull of renegades and other such problems. Their main goal in life was to just enjoy it (and learn as much as possible), so when new Semaca Weyr was established, N'tel was especially keen on a transfer. Fort had seen too much trouble for his tastes, and he longed for a simpler life.
For Turns, they made their way in life in a new place, navigating the issues involved with settling a new Weyr with all the carefree aplomb of the young and naive. Flooding in 2768 threatened their new home and the pair threw themselves into aiding their home, though for a while life was rough. It terrified N'tel to think that he would have to move back to a Northern Weyr. Fortunately, the rebuilding was possible enough. N'tel eventually started visiting Telgar periodically to see his younger sister.
It was there that he met a young man by the name of Kaneki, and then two fell into a bit of a whirlwind romance. N'tel and Kaneki traded letters and N'tel visited weekly, the trip made easy on dragonback. The distance wasn't particularly troublesome to him like it was his partner; Kaneki seemed to quickly tire of it and proposed a transfer to Semaca. N'tel, misunderstanding the real motive behind this, encouraged the transfer, thinking it more a career move than the emotionally charged decision it was for Kaneki. When Kaneki moved in winter and N'tel realized just what was involved, he quickly dropped the relationship.
Life since has been a matter of fighting Thread and avoiding Kaneki, only to then seek him out for an on-again-off-again thing, not willing to let go completely but not able to commit fully. It is every bit the drama N'tel claims to not want any part of.
