FULL APPEARANCE: Most who walked by Garma would hardly even notice her presence, much less glance her way. She is, by simple description, plain, and unlikely to turn a head whether through admiration or disgust. Her long hair is often tied back, sometimes in a very simple plait, the color resembling dampened earth. While the dark green of her eyes might be considered pretty, one would have to be paying close attention to discern the color, as from a distance they look more like they'd be brown.
Her form isn't exactly androgynous but doesn't scream femininity either. Neither curvy nor entirely flat in shape, she perhaps simply hasn't hit the peak of puberty yet. A few freckles dot her cheeks and arms, but she is otherwise unmarked and unmarred by any event so far. She is often a bit of a tomboy in dress, preferring tunics and breeches to dresses and skirts, and is not out of place with a layer of dirt or otherwise on her skin and/or clothing.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: From a young age, Garma often preferred the open spaces of her hold to the confines of indoors. As soon as compulsory lessons or chores were over, she would be in the dirt and, more often than not, barefoot, much to the chagrin of her mother. With her fingers in a coating of mud or otherwise, she did discover an early love of drawing, and soon was making sketches in the dirt or, when she thought nobody was looking, in charcoal on the walls of the hold. She took a particular interest in recreating the creatures of pern, and would try to draw whatever came along: tunnel snakes, wherries, and the dragons that sometimes visited on business. Her parents, though unsure what this particular talent would bring as a benefit, would sometimes bring her paper as a gift, which she kept for use on only her most important projects. When she was able to be plied (or dragged) from her art, she did learn fishing from her father, and is a competent enough fisher in her own right, though eating them so often has left her with a preferred taste for other meats.
Confident in most of her actions, she is a natural leader, and though it can cause personal recklessness, she will take risk upon herself before allowing her fellows into any danger. When it comes to herself? She has a tendency to look before leaping, so to say. It has only so far gotten her scolded, but being faced with real danger is the test which may yet cure her of impulsiveness, or leave her with a permanent reminder of how important forethought really is. Her caring side is not always overly affectionate, but she is loyal and will do anything to help another, if she is able. This has yet to be tested in any serious way, but those closest to her would not be surprised if she took a serious Threadscore to spare another.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Garalla - Mother
Darmon - Father
BIRTHPLACE: Tillek Hold
HISTORY: Born to a fisherman father and a weaver mother, Garma spent most of her childhood surrounded by the nets her mother wove and the fish her father caught with them. An only child, she sought companionship amongst the other hold children instead, and would lead them on self-titled adventures into tide pools and coastal caves, a practice she was later scolded heavily on the dangers of.
While confined to the hold as a punishment, she began instead to draw in the dirt outside of her dwelling. Anything that wandered nearby was fair game to practice drawing, as were any number of fish and their parts that were hauled in from the shores, though she particularly loved to draw the dragons that would visit from the weyr. She soon discovered the way charcoal could leave its mark even on stone, and after a particularly detailed recreation of runner reproduction on the main hold wall, was not all that gently encouraged to contain her art to less public places. Determined to keep her from causing any more such ruckus, her parents began to supply her with paper when they were able, and so long as she applied herself diligently to helping her father with the catches.
In the past Turn, with the population South growing more, her parents relocated to Semaca. People need food, and the vibrant Southern coasts meant plenty of fish to be caught for the Weyr. Garma followed, hoping a new setting would mean new subjects to be captured in art, and a growing Weyr may also mean growing opportunity for her to spend time observing dragons. Maybe, even, to be Searched for one.
