Her skin holds a healthy, light-brown tan, and her expressions are often subtle, never particularly showing any extremes. Her dark brown hair is cut short and kept fairly messy. In terms of clothing, she tends to keep it practical, but with some added fashionable flair; mostly in neutral browns, greys and blacks with accents of colour.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: At a first glance, Loress is cool and collected; a strong-willed woman who stays unphased in the face of danger or adversity. Yet, at a second glance - she is incredibly rude, and for no real reason. She takes great care to make herself seem deliberately unreadable, keeping her expressions and body language minimal or misleading. Yet, at the same time, she is calculating, with a sharp wit and a certain edge of smooth, playful charisma, as though she plays a game of mental chess with everyone she meets, for the purpose of finding others' insecurities and deliberately poking at them, because she's truly fascinated and amused by how people react. Though she plays her cards close to her chest when it comes to showing any sort of emotions, she is open and honest when it comes to her opinions, stating them outright. She doesn't react much to those who try to 'fix' her or call her out, simply shrugging - she doesn't see any reason why she needs to change. She is absolutely a bully, and she thinks that if people can't deal with that, that's their problem. There's no soft side to Loress, and claims those who try to find one would simply be wasting their time.
Though she has a strong sense of streetwise, can read others well and has a certain level of quickness about her; that's where her intelligence ends. Academically, she's not good. As well as this, her memory is terrible, but in part it's simply because she doesn't care to remember a lot of things she finds 'trivial', which includes people's names. She tends to address people by whatever nickname she's picked out for them, instead. To her, other people are simply there, and she doesn't get attached to anyone easily. She might need someone's help for a moment, but that's it; she mostly looks out for her own needs alone. When she isn't jabbing at people, or acting cool and unbothered when she's called out on it; there's a flirty, charismatic side to her. She has no interest in pursuing a romantic relationship, but she, for the most part, likes to have fun in watching people react - occasionally, she throws in a flirt, regardless of how 'interested' she is in the other person. Those who don't react to her sniping are often eventually left alone.
She is far from helpful, bordering on lazy, oftentimes; she does the bare minimum of what's required of her, but doesn't particularly care about doing a perfect job. She doesn't care at all for authority, or any kind of Weyr traditions at all; nor does she care about others' opinions on them. She is a rule-breaker and a risk-taker, caring little for any potential consequences of her actions - always gambling her chances on what seems like the most fun option to take in any situation.
Why does she want to be a dragonrider? Having a dragon and fighting thread sounds pretty cool, she guesses.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
- Mother: Loredana, trader (deceased)
- Father: Kessor, trader
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Trading caravan near Big Bay Hold
HISTORY:
CW: parent death
As the only child born to two traders at a caravan, even from her early days, Loress was always a lot. She was a loud, mischievous child, always getting into trouble - she was almost definitely difficult to handle, seeing as she often stubbornly dug in her heels. She didn't like having to respect adults, just because they were older. Her mother tried her best to get through to her, and through her childhood she genuinely grew to respect the woman. She was indifferent, mostly, to everyone else. Thread started to fall when she was three; an alarming experience for someone of such an age, as it seemed that everyone suddenly tried to rush for safety and only explained what it was after the fact. This was the caravan's life, for the next few years. Try their best to run their trade routes, and not get melted by Thread in the process. No matter where they stopped, Loress wouldn't hold back the meanness, provided she was out of sight of her mother - picking on other kids relentlessly, for the most trivial of reasons, if any.
When she was fourteen, her mother had unfortunately not made it under cover in time, and was killed by Thread. She didn't know, really, how to process this - the one person she felt a hint of care for was gone. Her father was a kind man, but she hadn't particularly respected him. He tried his best to gently ask for her help as she got older, but she did not want to comply, whatsoever. Two turns later, after begrudgingly trying to sucking up and dealing with it, she realised she didn't want to be with this caravan anymore - no matter how much or little they did, she hardened, she kept her cool and composure, with a seething fury inside her. They killed her mother, was all she could think about this group of traders, even if they were only guilty of inaction at the absolute worst. Whatever, she didn't really care about them in the first place anyway.
At sixteen, while the caravan was stationed near the coast, Loress ran from the caravan to join the pirates; not particularly caring if her father would come looking for her or not. She knew nothing about the pirates, save for the fact that she'd heard they sometimes did crimes, and they actually knew how to coordinate themselves so they didn't get stuck in Thread. She was absolutely in - allowing her aboard claiming she had trader experience, even if she still had to work. For two turns aboard the ship, she was, essentially a seafaring trader, and once she'd turned eighteen they'd let her in on their secret. They partook in criminal activity often, namely theft, and she knew she was interested for certain.
Loress stayed with the pirates for this time - an experience that certainly shaped her into who she would eventually become, realising she was around people with whom she felt were just like her. In 2774, her ship arrived in Semaca Weyr - and a dragonrider approached her, informing her of her Search sense. She thought - even though she enjoyed her time with the pirates, if you have the chance to become a dragonrider, why not become a dragonrider? It sounded pretty cool, and flaming Thread felt like it would be greatly satisfying for her. She accepted, and moved to the Weyr proper, trying her best to adjust to her new life as a Candidate.
