B'ram is a big man, tall and broad with plenty of muscle definition, as well as occasional patches of normal body fat. He has bright red, straight hair that he tends to wear long, typically pulled back, and he prefers to have facial hair, though he tends to keep that well-groomed and cut close to his face. He has prominent cheekbones, and a longer face. He tends to be fairly well-groomed, and while his clothes are well-maintained, he doesn't wear anything he'd be afraid to ruin with hard work. His voice if often light and pleasant, but on the rare occasions he gets angry or needs to shout over a crowd, it tends to sound a little lower.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
B’ram understands that morale is an extremely important part of a functional group of people. After all, happy people are healthier, more productive, so keeping people happy is a big part of who he is. He likes throwing parties, likes making jokes, likes making people feel at ease. Because it makes people more willing to listen when it’s time to get serious, to hear him when he has to have hard conversations. Yes, he can be a bit manipulative, but it’s not done with malevolence. It’s because he wants to find the best way to get people to work together and work efficiently, and often telling them what you want them to do directly makes them do the opposite. He knows he’s a large man, and would rather have people do what he asks because they feel comfortable with him than through physical intimidation. The former tends to be more reliable motivation, he’s found.
For all that he can come across as charming, personable, and affable, in reality he tends to keep most people at a distance, especially if he’s in a position of authority. There’s no telling when he might have to make a hard decision, and if he has to sacrifice someone for the good of the group, he needs to be able to do so without hesitation. While he is aware he’s not perfect, he tends to try to make the best decision he can at the time with all of the information he has, and will refuse to be made to feel bad about that. He believes in holding people responsible for their actions when they’ve caused genuine harm, but also knows that there isn’t always a clear right way to do things and thinks people should be given a chance to redeem themselves…provided they’ve shown a proper willingness to change. He’s also not so precious about rules that he isn’t willing to interpret them loosely as long as it’s for everyone’s benefit.
Ultimately, B’ram wants what’s best for the Weyr and the people in it. People thrive in groups, and the whole needs to be happy and healthy for each individual in it to happy and healthy and vice versa. He can make decisions quickly when needed, but also mull over a problem from every angle. He prefers the latter, but is aware that sometimes that’s a luxury he can’t have.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Farmers in Igen
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
BIRTHPLACE: Igen
HISTORY:
Born to subsistence farmers in Igen's territory in 2739, Biram never really had much in the way of a formal education, nor did he seem to have any particular aptitudes that would have justified sending him to any of the crafting halls and depriving the farm of a set of hands. He still managed to learn all the expected lessons, though, and gained plenty of practical skills between all the plants, animals, and farm equipment he was expected to help with. He was one of the middle children, and was expected to help with his younger siblings when he could.
Right when Biram turned sixteen in 2755, a Search dragon came to their farm and he was taken to Igen to be a candidate. That same year, thread began to fall again, and a season later, he impressed to blue Sininulth and could begin training to fight the returning scourge. Their weyrlinghood was largely uneventful, and the pair were competent threadfighters. He kept as up to date on the conflict between the other Weyrs that were raging, interested in current events and politics as he was, but felt the fight was distracting from their true enemy. In 2764 at 25, he became a wingsecond due to his clear-headedness and likability, the wingleader clearly wanting to foster his leadership qualities. That same turn, riders began establishing the summerlands. B'ram couldn't help but be interested, but his new duties kept him busy and he put more of his focus into his work.
In the second half of 2768, the flooding at Semaca got bad enough that B'ram felt the need to transfer so he could lend a hand in rebuilding. This was the first new Weyr in history, after all, it'd be a shame for it to fail before it had even really gotten started, and he had enough random skillsets to be useful all over. He hadn't meant to stay long, but there was always more work that needed doing, and after a few turns of telling himself "I'll just stay until after we've built this next structure", even he had to admit that it was going to be a permanent stay.
B'ram had always been a practical man, so when the north failed to show up en masse to help Semaca, he was more than happy to accept aid from the pirates. Beggars couldn't be choosers, after all, and he didn't much care who was working next to him as long as the work got done. The spotties were a different story, though. Thread at least is a mindless entity that harms indiscriminately and without thought. The spotties appear intelligent, which means they're intentionally going after the new Weyr, and that is unacceptable. He didn't put in all that work helping to build the place up just to see it get torn down by a pack of spotted felines.
Near the end of 2775 when Cornelia stepped down as Weyrleader, he put himself up for the position and was elected.
