FULL APPEARANCE:
O'do is is a fairly average-looking person, with an unremarkable build and an average height for a Pernese man (not that he identifies as one). He has straight, dirty blond hair that he tends to keep slicked back so it stays out of his face. He is largely inexpressive, apart from his persistant resting bitch face, which tends to convey disdain and scorn on a near-constant basis. He has good posture, and tends to like to stand with a wide stance and his hands clasped behind his back.
His clothes tend to be functional and in neutral, earthy tones. He tends to keep himself fairly immaculately well-groomed, not for vanity's sake, but because he finds it to be the most efficient. His clothes are equally efficient and functional, and he typically sticks to riding leathers more often than not. He has a deeper, gravelly voice.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
O'do comes across as a very grumpy person. His resting expression is extremely severe and judgemental, and he tends to make a 'hrmph' noise when he doesn't approve of something or simply doesn't have anything to say. He tends to be focused on efficiency, both in his own life and in the systems he has to work under. He prefers to have things streamlined, and doesn't see the point in decorative bits and pieces that'd slow down his ability to get things done or don his clothes. The one exception he makes to this is that he likes collecting artistic pieces for his weyr that have unique shapes, colors, or textures. He finds them fascinating, and likes studying them to see how they were made.
People in general fascinate O'do, and he loves to people watch, even if he prefers not to engage them directly and would rather judge them from afar. He's a very suspicious person by nature, and tends to assume the worst of people unless proven wrong. This is not to say that he holds his suspicions against people, though. He has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and will treat everyone with the same base level of respect unless he finds out that they've gone out of their way to hurt someone else. He has a good nose for investigating, and has good instincts for the right questions to ask and the right people to go to with them.
Despite his strong feelings about justice, he does have a soft spot for troublemakers. He finds them amusing, and trying to keep on top of their shenanigans is an entertaining exercise for him. Whether or not he tries to stop them can seem mercurial at times, but is usually based on how much collateral chaos their nonsense will cause, if it will help him find worse offenders, or even just if he can catch them at the last second and ruin their fun in the most entertaining way possible. Regardless of if he tries to step in or not, he does go out of his way to make sure any troublemakers know that he's keeping a very close eye on them at nearly all times.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Father - Morapol
Telgar riders/weyrfolk
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Hrmph (none)
BIRTHPLACE: Telgar Weyr
HISTORY:
Otaldo was born in Telgar Weyr in the creches. His father was Morapol, and while he was a well-meaning man, he was not a good father, often projecting a lot of his own wants and expectations onto Otaldo and parading the child around in front of his friends every time Otaldo had any minor achievement. It very quickly wore on Otaldo's patience, since it made him feel like a performing canine, and as he grew up he made more and more of an effort to distance himself from his father. He couldn't bring himself to completely cut his father off, and he did join dragon candidacy when he was old enough at his father's urging, at least partially. The other reason was because dragonriders were seen as the protectors of Pern who upheld justice, and he knew even from a young age that that was what he wanted to dedicate his life to doing.
As the turns wore on and he was passed over again and again by dragons, he began to seriously consider alternatives. He knew that he would enjoy joining the Weyr guard, and so he decided that once he aged out of candidacy, a wher egg would be perfect for him. However, that particular future never came to be, as in his 26th turn, the green Sandeerath emerged and chose him. It was an unusual pairing, and one that had several bumps in the road during their weyrling years, but it was ultimately a good match, as they proved on multiple occasions.
In the winter of 2777, Sandeerath found out that several of her classmates were transferring to Semaca and, not wanting to be left out, begged O'do to do the same. O'do highly suspected that one of the males had caught her eye and she was pining after him as she was wont to do, but O'do thought the idea of moving to a Weyr overrun with lawless pirates would be a fun challenge for him, so he agreed and put in for the transfer. He's looking forward to the unique chaos of the place and trying to find ways to tame it and rein it in.
