FULL APPEARANCE:
Akane is petite and slim, standing at 5'6". Her skin is pale, and she often dresses in baggy, comfortable, bright-coloured clothes - mostly in shades of purple or blue. She has wide, brown eyes, and long, brown hair, sometimes worn in a ponytail or a side-bun. She is very expressive in her face, and with her body language, and usually carries herself quite confidently.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
On the surface, Akane is cheerful and upbeat. She does not hide any emotion she is feeling, and often just says exactly what she is thinking. While she normally shows expressions of happiness or joy, this sometimes means that she can be overemotional when she is sad, or angry; which may lead to emotional outbursts. Despite often coming across as clumsy or ditzy, she is quite intelligent; having knowledge and various facts about very specific, odd things, which she often likes to share, usually without being prompted to do so. In such cases, she will ramble, on and on about said thing. Sometimes, however, as she can be naive or gullible, she tends to take any and all rumours as fact, no matter how ridiculous they may be. She trusts fairly easily, but becomes extremely upset when she feels betrayed.
Unfortunately, Akane's most prominent negative trait is that she can be very selfish. Her actions, most of the time, are motivated by what she thinks will be best for herself, not so much for other people. As well as this, she often feels heavy guilt or regret if she has genuinely hurt someone, even if it takes her a while to realise she has done so. She can get overwhelmed fairly easily, and tends to run away from her stresses; she has found that removing herself from the situation is the best course of action. However, she has a strong will, and is very ambitious and determined; she wants to see the good in the world, and all its quirks, hence why she kept believing that Benden would eventually get better, and she felt utterly crushed when Alayna was revealed to have been captured, so much so that she had to immediately run away.

HISTORY: Akane was born to two riders, and thus, was placed in the creche during her early years - as she was more than likely a product of flightlust, both of her parents had no interest in raising a child; they were both focused on their duty as dragonriders. However, she found a friend in Junpei, another weyrbrat whose parents were too busy to look after him. He was funny, and he always wanted to cheer her up when she felt sad. At the time, the two were blissfully ignorant of Benden's questionable actions, and all they had to worry about was what happened within their creche. There were instances in which Akane was picked on by the other kids in the creche (if only for the fact she was an easy target, being naive and easily upset), and Junpei would always step in to fight them. She greatly admired him, and viewed him as a hero, for this.
Akane and Junpei had become candidates together when they were 15, around the time they both started to realise that Benden was... not good. The Weyr was full of corruption, traditionalism, and outright hatred. She had hoped it would all get better, in fact, she had hoped that soon enough Benden's true nature would be exposed to the rest of the world, and they would be forced to change for the better - alas, she was still unaware of exactly how bad it was. At most, she thought it was just horrible outdated views that would die off after Golre's death. This turned out not to be the case - in 2764, Benden Weyr kidnapped riders from Fort, and in the same turn, she Impressed to Brown Kuraoth. The dragon was almost like a brother to her; protective, strong and loyal, if not a little bit hardy. During her weyrlinghood, she started to drift slowly from Junpei, who she hoped she had impressed alongside, but that was not the case. He impressed a turn after she did, and once she'd graduated, he was too busy with his new Green.
Though Benden had always been a place full of awful things - the final straw came in 2766, when it was revealed that Alayna of Gold Wyzeth had been kept captive in the Weyr for five turns. Akane couldn't help but feel sorry for the goldpair, and in sheer impulse, decided to leave Benden behind. She wasn't sure how to tell Junpei - now J'pei - this, she just wanted to get out as quickly as possible, so she asked someone to send him a note about her departure. Whether or not he received that note, she never found out. She couldn't support a Weyr that was doing things like this. Her location of choice was Semaca, that new Weyr. That seemed like the place with the least amount of drama, at the time, even if it seemed like an awfully weird place to put a Weyr.
Since moving to Semaca, not much had happened in the past 5 turns; she impressed a gold Firelizard, named Zero, and mostly spent her time with Kuraoth - he liked to train a lot, even if she wasn't as up to the task. She hasn't looked too into Semaca's recent pirate problem, if only because Kuraoth has told her it's not worth dealing with, yet. Let the wherhandlers deal with them, he says.
She still thinks about J'pei, however, and still dearly misses him, every single day.
