FULL APPEARANCE:
Fine, delicate features, dark eyes, dark hair, and fairly pale skin are the first notable traits of this young man. His black hair is nearly to his waist when not kept pulled up in a high tail, despite the trouble it poses for care. He looks quite small and scrawny build-wise, but stands at an average height. Unfortunately for him, his delicate features and long hair sometimes leave him in awkward situations thanks to assumptions by others. Despite years as a candidate and then a rider and the physical labor required by both, he doesn't seem to have much in the way of body muscle or bulk, but he is stronger than he appears. Not that he ever uses it for anything.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Ning is a shy and nervous young man, and suffers from a stutter that is most noticeable when under stress. He has a bad tendency to hold in his negative emotions rather than express them, not wanting to trouble anyone with his problems. It is fairly easy for someone to tell when he is feeling down, but it is hard to get him to open up about any sort of issue he may be having. Ning is sensitive and openly shows his positive emotions--even if it may embarrass him after the fact. He loves and cares strongly, and is willing to sacrifice himself without hesitation to protect others, even those who may hate him. He has a particularly strong sense of honor and loyalty. He is extremely protective of children, regardless of their parentage.
Due to severe performance anxiety, he has trouble with showing anyone any sort of skill he has, even if he is good at it. This extends to friends as well, even, something he has always found troublesome and embarrassing. He will more often than not only practice in seclusion--or at least, sometimes in a seclusion consisting of his dragon and himself.

HISTORY:
Although he did not grow up there, Ning was born to a pair of Healers in Benden Weyr. Only a few months after his birth, his family would depart from Benden. Or, at least, he and his sister would leave with his grandmother and uncle for territory outside Benden in a bid by their parents to rescue their children from the inter-Weyr conflict. Despite the difficulty of travel, the group managed to find and settle into a small Hold, realizing only after that they had crossed into Ista territory.
Other than the big move as an infant, which Ning does not recall at all, his life was fairly normal. He and his family worked very hard to maintain a positive relationship with their new Hold, which initially viewed them with some distrust due to their origin--Benden had sided with High Reaches, while Ista had sided with Fort. While this was largely an issue between Weyrs and their riders, news still traveled to Holds of the conflict via traders and had created some opposition from those who were especially loyal to their patron Weyr. Luckily, the hold's young children didn't seem particularly bothered by the affairs of adults, so young Ning had no trouble with playmates, though he did have some difficulty in making friends thanks to his stutter. It was much more prominent as a youngster, so he received some teasing for it.
Ning did well in his studies, following his sister in following their parents and learning from the local healer as soon as he was old enough. At nineteen he was Searched to Ista, where he stood for several Hatchings, all ending the same. After several Turns of disappointment, he transferred to Igen--only to Impress at his very first Hatching at Igen to Qionglinth. Despite the dragon's unusual hide, he immediately loved his new bonded and defended them from anyone who tried to look down on the white for being different.
Upon hearing about the flooding at Semaca and all the trouble the young Weyr was having, Ning made a plan to transfer there to help as soon as he could. However, Ning was stuck at Igen until his dragon matured. As soon as he and Qionglinth graduated, he would go help them.
