PLAY-BY: Cillian Murphy
FULL APPEARANCE: Fillin has prominent cheekbones and a strong jaw. He keeps his hair messy and at around ear-length. He tends to have an unfocused look to his eyes because his eyesight is extremely poor and he can't make out anything other than vague blobs of color. There's usually the ghost of a smile on his face, and coupled with his unfocused eyes gives him a dreamy expression. He has pale skin that burns rather than tans.
He tends to drape himself over furniture rather than sit in it, and as long as he's got his walking stick, there's a bit of a swagger to his stride. He tends to wear clothes in solid, bright colors, and doesn't seem to notice when they're crumpled or stained. Despite this odd oversight, he tends to dress fairly stylishly, preferring layers to help compensate for how lanky he is.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Filln is fairly easy-going, sometimes too much so. He'd rather laugh things off than get upset over them, and he can find the humor in almost any situation. Once he's comfortable around people, he can also be a little mischievous, and though he's mostly grown out of more elaborate pranks, he's still been known to play them on people from time to time. At his core, though, he's got a big heart and will go out of his way to help people he cares about the most.
His easy-going nature and sense of humor can make people see him as irresponsible and like he's not taking things seriously. It's been known to get him into trouble, particularly with more straight-laced authority figures. This isn't helped by the fact that as the baby of his family, he was used to getting away with a lot more and not having to do as much work, so he can be fairly lazy, especially if the task he's been assigned is obvious busywork. He's not above guilting people or playing up his poor vision to get out of doing things. Ironically, he's not good at sitting still or having idle time, and if he has no task he thinks is worthwhile, that's when he tends to find some mischief to get into. He absolutely hates being confined.
When he's got his walking stick and his brown firelizard Rusty, Fillin's as confident as any other 20 year old. On the rare occasions when he can't have both with him, he becomes a lot more withdrawn and tentative, as more of his attention has to go towards navigating a space that he can't see in any detail.

Father - a Journeyman Farmer who typically serviced smaller Holds
Several siblings who went on to become apprentice craftspeople of one kind or another
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None (yet)
BIRTHPLACE: Some small hold Fillin's forgotten the name of
HISTORY:
Fillin's parents were a pair of Journeymen who serviced small Holds around Pern. As such, they ended up moving around a lot. Fillin got used to meeting new people, and rather than find that daunting, he saw it as an opportunity to make friends all over Pern from all walks of life. As the youngest, his parents ended up letting him get away with a lot more than his older siblings. His education was spotty, and tended to focus on the things his parents and siblings were most passionate about rather than ensuring he had necessary skills. He's literate and can do basic sums, but he's better with practical skills than academic ones.
At a young age, Fillin's eyesight began to deteriorate. It wasn't too surprising - he had a great uncle who'd had a similar problem, his vision steadily getting worse and worse until he could only see vague blobs of color and no detail. The same thing happened to Fillin, and rather than let it turn him bitter, he just learned to compensate. It helped that he was surrounded by the love and support of his family. They were the ones who ensured he got a firelizard to help him navigate and avoid danger. They also insisted he carry a walking stick with him to help him test the ground. He got pretty good at using it for other things too, like knocking things off high shelves, banging it to get people's attention, and defending himself with it.
One by one, Fillin's older siblings all left to learn crafts, until it was just Fillin and his parents. While they knew their son was capable, as craftsmen, they weren't quite sure what to encourage him to do with his life given that his vision was so poor. The choice was eventually made for them when one day Fillin was walking over uneven ground and fell down a ravine, breaking his arm and several bones in Rusty's tail because of how they landed. Fillin's parents realized it would be safer for Fillin to live in one stable location rather than risk a similar injury happening during a thread fall. They sent him to Semaca Weyr, mostly at his own insistence because what 20 year old doesn't want an adventure, bad eyesight or no?
