Daiya is only concerned about his appearance as far as his status as a guard is concerned. However, due to circumstances outside his control, he has now decided that he no longer needs to keep himself looking as sharp. His trimmed hair has slowly started to grow wilder and longer. He does at least make an attempt to keep himself as free of facial hair as much as he used to, as facial makes him itchy.
He’s otherwise the same muscular guy he always was. He still has a bit of a gut, as he likes to snack when he’s not doing anything particularly important. He still keeps all his clothes clean and tidy, as he’s so used to making himself look presentable in that regard.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Daiya is a big brother in every sense of the word. He’s protective of those younger than him, especially wher candidates. He’s also quite keen on giving advice, though he’ll usually only share if asked. He doesn’t normally impose himself upon others like some might think. While he’s a big brother type, he doesn’t actively work to assist unless someone is in a real pickle or they ask for it.
He also has a fondness for barter and trade, so he makes pals with many traders and journeymen. If anyone wants something in particular, Daiya’s the one to ask. He’ll point you in the direction of whoever you may need, be it a crafter or just a trader. The reason for this, however, is because he pals around with traders and crafters too much. He’s willing to look the other way in regards to all manner of shady activity, especially smuggling, for a few extra marks or a favor in the future.
Unfortunately, due to this, he also has a bit of a sore spot when it comes to people in authority being TOO authoritative. While he understands rules and the like quite well, and why they’re there, he also really sharding hates tyrants or people who try to throw their weight around. He’s not afraid to stand up for himself or others, regardless of what happens to him. He will back off as needed but he also has a great memory, meaning grudges will last a while.
Intra-weyr politics are both a point of interest and also as sore spot. He hates thinking about them but he will if he has to. Especially if a leader is someone starting to make their way into his focus...
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Father – Otek ( Wherhandler at Telgar )
Mother – Daini ( Weavercrafter )
Younger Brother – Mondo ( Dual Candidate )
BIRTHPLACE: Southern Boll Hold
HISTORY:
Daiya and his brother Mondo were not the worst children to come from their Hold. Their father was off being a Handler at Telgar, while his mother was busy doing work. As such, he and Mondo were allowed to wander the place as they pleased. But as they grew older, they also started to think about their future. Daiya’s mother preferred he take up a craft, but he was content to help defend their Hold as needed.
When he was old enough, however, an older bronzerider saw potential in Daiya. He wormed his way into Candidacy, switching from dragon s to whers the second he could. Whers appealed to him more overall, anyway. The squat build, the more down to Pern feel… It was nicer to him. However, he'd have to wait a little while to get an egg that was right for him. Nearly 5 turns at least. But finally, he’d get his chance when he was 22 turns old.
He’d be rolled an egg that would hatch into a very angry young lady.
She had come out of her egg fighting. And in his attempts to placate her resulted in a bitten hand. Not that it was too bad. He’d just smeared the blood on her face, and they were partners from then on. Daisk would eventually settle down, mellowing out and just being more trusting of Daiya overall. But life was not destined to be peaceful for them.
He’d made a place for himself at Fort Hold once he’d graduated, working as a guard. He was upstanding and true… at least for a little while. When he realized that merchants and others would gladly pass him a few more marks or do favors for him, he started to turn a blind eyes to certain things. Smuggling was a big problem that he mostly ignored. Daisk was happy to let her handler do this, because it meant less work chasing ne’er-do-wells.
But things were starting to get dicey. Dissent was happening. The population seemed unhappy. Daiya didn’t care. He kept doing what he did, even going as far as to release prisoners early from temporary holding cells if they’d pay up a hefty sum, or letting certain favored smugglers the guard schedules… He couldn’t have known that the power grab would happen so quickly. And the more Daiya thought about it, the more he realized he'd had a hand in this mess. Or possibly, he'd had a hand in it. It was hard to say what had tipped this situation to what it had become. Has the prisoners he’d released been rebels? Had the smugglers he’d waved through had weapons?
He wouldn’t know and that really shook Daiya to his core.
Thankfully, they’d both made enough friends to not be thrown out on their tails. But now where were they to go? He didn’t want Mondo to see that he’d come home in shame. Both he and Daisk could rough it as needed but not forever.
They had friends at Fort Weyr and could temporarily stay until they decided to what to do next. Of course he’d find Corleon and ask where he was going. Despite the breakdown of the hierarchy, he still felt like keeping an eye on hi m and making sure he’d be alright. Besides… It was his negligence that had caused them all to be kicked out and lose their homes. Before all that mess had happened, however, Daiya had recalled hearing a lot about Semeca. Perhaps that’s where he’d make his new home...
