FULL APPEARANCE: Despite the fact that Makai was assigned female at birth, he has a naturally "masculine" appearance, only augmented by the fact that he attempts to present in a traditionally hypermasculine manner. Although slightly short, at 5'7", he has a naturally thick and strong build, masculine and burly, almost like that of a lumberjack. He's a little chunky, but mostly muscular. Makai is dark-skinned and dark-haired, and prefers to wear his hair in a shaggy cut that almost reaches his shoulders. His eyes are dark, appearing black in most light. Despite avoiding finery like the plague, Makai has a strong sense of style (but HIS style), and will balk at needing to wear something that isn't his style. He prefers baggy clothing in neutral, earthy, or dark tones, often with an accent of color, usually red. Despite Makai's many insecurities, he holds himself as if he were confident, and each step he takes seems assured and deliberate. He's a little clumsy sometimes, and relies more on brute strength than finesse or dexterity. In a fight, Makai is a brawler, with straightforward and easy to predict tactics, but he's more than capable of defending himself.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Makai is brave, but this verges on reckless. He leaps into danger without thinking things through, and his impulsiveness has gotten him into trouble more than once. He is protective of others, to the point of sacrificing his own needs and safety. While especially protective of his loved ones, he will try to defend a stranger should they need it. He has a surprisingly good heart--good intentions, secretly caring, even a bit of a romantic. He tries very hard to hide these things. His kindness and empathy hide behind a prickly, grumpy exterior. Makai is often angry, with a legendary temper. While he will yell and swear at you, he immediately shifts to awkward attempts at comfort and profuse apologies if you get upset. That said, he is crude and rude. Coarse, his manners are unrefined, and he tends to swear constantly. He has a tendency to insult others, but isn't very clever about it.

He's not the smartest guy--not stupid, exactly, but he leaps before thinking...and rarely pauses to think, at all. Makai is certainly a straightforward and concrete thinker, lacking subtlety entirely. That said, he has a strong value system, despite its black and white nature. Honor, fairness, and equality. Surprisingly, Makai is honorable, and there are low blows that he refuses to partake in. He enjoys sparring and fighting, with a straightforward style that avoids dirty fighting; he will not kick someone who is down, for example. As an athletic person, he also enjoys physical pursuits. He also enjoys singing and music--he has a lovely voice.

Makai possesses strong determination and perseverance. Another way to say this is that he is extremely stubborn. He won't change his mind, and refuses to budge on most matter. Unfortunately, he can be a bit contrary and rebellious, too. He hates the color ranking system among dragonkin, and speaks out openly about it. One of the reasons he moved to Semaca was their rebellious, lax, and accepting attitudes. Despite feeling at home for once, Makai doesn't feel like he belongs--he's anxious and insecure, hiding this part of him. He worries he is not good enough, often feeling inferior. Socially, he's a bit awkward--when he's not yelling, angry, or insulting, he doesn't know how to interact with others.

HISTORY: R'kelln and Amara were not weyrmates. Amara's weyrmate, Kairassa, was a kitchensworker; one who could not get Amara pregnant. When Amara's dragon rose, and a blue in her wing caught her, a child was conceived. The father was known, but R'kelln had no interest in raising the child. Makai's name came from Amara and Kairassa--even though he was only biologically related to one of the women. His father was uninvolved, perhaps--an area of insecurity for Makai--but his mothers were loving. When he was 2, his sister, Asaira was born; Kairassa's best friend had helped her get pregnant, to raise Asaira as a part of their family unit. Asaira and Makai, as a result, were not related by blood at all, nor did they look alike. Their mothers doted on them, loving both children dearly. When Makai was young, and expressed that he was trans, they supported him with full hearts.

As a youth at Ista Weyr, he met another boy around his age--Nariyo. They had seen each other in passing, but upon becoming candidates at 15, Makai really took notice of Nariyo. Sure, they barely knew each other, but...Nariyo was handsome, Makai could not deny that. When he was 20, both were chosen to bond to one of the two wher eggs that had been laid at Ista. Kask, a shiny blue, and Narsk, a garnet, hatched. Over the course of their wherlinghood, Nariyo and Makai became best friends...with some mutual pining.

For graduation, they got each other gifts. Nariyo gave Makai an egg, which hatched into the elegantly-named Gift. Makai felt his gift wasn't as good--a handmade wooden pendant with a stone bead hanging from it.

Despite Makai's relative family orientation, he had grown tired of Ista Weyr, and set his sights on the new Semaca--a tropical paradise. Nariyo and Makai moved to Semaca after graduation, and have been there since Makai was 21 or 22. For a few turns, now, the two have crushed on each other...but not said anything.

FULL APPEARANCE: At the largest length for a blue, Kask is a hulking creature. He is a bit shorter, however, below average for a blue--and his stubby legs and massive bulk only make him look short and squat. Whers are rarely lean creatures; Kask takes the muscular stature of a wher to an extreme. He is thickly built, with strong muscles and a solid appearance. Were he a human, his form might be described as a lumberjack's build, however--as opposed to that of a body builder. Still...this is hardly the most striking thing about this blue. No, the most noteworthy thing is his hide. A deep blue with lighter markings, his hide would be handsome, even were it not metallic. The rich sheen of a bronze or gold marks his hide; it is simply in a shade of blue.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Kask is the BEST EVER! If you don't agree, forsk you. Confident and self-assured, Kask seems quite aware of his positive traits and flaunts them. He is every bit as important as a gold or bronze, and look--his hide is even pretty and shiny, too! He is incredibly playful, both in a physical sense and a verbal sense. He loves teasing others, and is generally a goofball. A bit of a disaster, he is prone to mischief and pranks. He likes to cause problems, and delights in creating drama. He finds tension, friction, and chaos amusing--and he's willing to put in the work to make them happen.

Surprisingly, Kask is a bit secretive. He keeps his true feelings to himself, and even his handler does not know them. Usually, this manifests in obvious lies and saying "is secret!" when asked questions, no matter how unimportant. However...he does have plots and plans, of which no one knows. In reality, he hopes to conquer Pern for himself. What this means, he isn't sure--he just wants to be in charge of everything ever. His controlling side does come out in daily life, as he can be a bit bossy. Everything must be his way, and exactly so.

FULL APPEARANCE: Makaisk is on the smaller side for brown whers and on first glance, appears fairly slender by wher standards. On closer examination, however, it becomes clear he has a surprising amount of muscle compressed into his relatively compact build. His hide is a tan color, on the lighter side for a brown, broken by speckles of other shades .

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Makaisk tries very, very hard to be good. He believes there is a universal system of ethics and that every moral quandary has a right and a wrong answer. Unfortunately, he rarely knows what that answer is and in his determination not to make a mistake, he often will fail to make a choice at all, indecisively waffling through his options in search of the one perfect solution. He is a worrier at heart, prone to developing stomach aches when stuck in a stressful situation.

To his partner, Makaisk can be a bit of an annoyance at first, with his rigid insistence on following the rules and his inability to ever decide on anything. He is also, however, a loyal partner who will do his best to work with them. Makaisk feels obligated to help his handler achieve their goals, even if said goals make him feel uncomfortable or afraid. Makaisk is always willing to provide perspective and guidance to his handler and fellow whers, elucidating his principles in excruciating detail. He enjoys debating abstract ideas of right and wrong with anyone who is interested. Given enough time and experience, maybe he will eventually learn how to make a decision and to leap without knowing exactly what awaits him...but that day is a long, long ways away.

Mindvoice: Makaisk's voice is calm, teacherly and reassuring when he isn't in the middle of panicking.

Why Me: Makaisk is far from the warrior wher Makai wanted, but maybe he can help Makai and Kask learn when to slow down and think.

FULL APPEARANCE: Pale, with sensitive hide, Gift is not the healthiest of firelizards. Her hide requires careful oiling. Instead of looking elegant, the pale green just looks sickly, especially in contrast with her few darker markings. She is tiny and frail-looking, with a slender form, her bones showing.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Despite being spoiled constantly by Makai, Gift is a sweet thing. She is tired all the time and a bit weak, but she is also gentle and loving. An affectionate lap-firelizard, she is nonetheless used to being Makai's little girl, his precious one, and has grown used to his protections and affections. She adores him with all of her heart, but her heart is big enough to love everyone.
