Mariana is a large and tall individual. She is overweight, but a good portion of her weight is due to her muscles. She has long black hair that typically goes down to her midback. This hair is usually held back in a ponytail, or a long braid. She doesn't really have a preferred style of clothing, honestly wearing whatever makes her feel comfortable. She won't deny a certain fondness towards shades of blue and green, though.

Mariana is a headstrong individual. She believes in her own personal beliefs and does not deter from them at all. Along with this, she has a bit of an attitude. If she thinks something is idiotic, she won't be afraid to admit it. She also typically follows her own plans, rather than working with others. She is incredibly stubborn and is someone who typically wants to get her way. As a result, she typically digs her heels into certain issues and won't drop it until her side- the right side- is chosen. There is no way to get her to change her opinion on it either. It's her way or the highway, and that's how she likes it. This includes if she gets into any arguments, as she's right and they're wrong. She is known to double down in an argument to prove her point as well. Sometimes, she will also speak down to other people if she views them as 'less intelligent'. She is not someone who asks for help, especially as she does not believe she needs help. She is the type of person who will do whatever it takes to show her true potential, even if it does involve personal injury.
However, she is admittedly a good friend. She likes to keep very few friends, mostly so she can focus on helping them as much as possible instead of anything else. She is someone that, if she is close with people, can be spoken to and confided into. She is happy to help her friends and will work hard to maintain her very few friendships.
There is also another part of Mariana: her love for exploring. She likes to explore the surrounding wilderness of Semaca Weyr and keep notes about her research. She enjoys listening to the pirates' stories, admittedly jealous of them for getting to explore the ocean while she was never able to. She won't admit it, though, especially due to the history pirates have.

Mariana had lived her entire life in Igen Weyr. Both of her parents were dragonriders and, admittedly, she didn't really want to be a dragonrider. She lived in the creche all of her life and she just didn't care for flying into the skies. However, there was a small part of her that wanted to escape the weyr and explore.
She also had a fascination with whers. Sure, they couldn't fly, but they looked a lot stronger and she would daydream of becoming a wherhandler. There was no one in her family who were wherhandlers and she wanted to be the first one. So, she decided to wait. While the other children of the creche chose to become candidate at the age of fifteen, Mariana waited.
On the day of her seventeenth birthday, she sought out the candidate master and inquired about becoming a wher candidate. She studied hard, studying hard to prepare for when she'd obtain her wher. It would take a total of five years, at the age of 22, before her dream would come true.
Her heart nearly stopped when the egg was slid to her and a garnet hatched out. After blooding her wher, she began to develop a close bond with Marisk. Even with their differences, they made for a great team and they worked hard to protect Igen Weyr.
However, as it neared her 32nd birthday, Mariana felt.. bored. Igen Weyr had been her home, but she felt like she was locked in this place. That was why she chose to leave.
After all, Semaca Weyr was a much newer weyr and she felt it could give her the much needed change she had been looking for.
