FULL APPEARANCE: Fartoo cuts an imposing figure. He carries himself with the easy grace and presence of an experienced fighter. His height and broad shoulders make him difficult to miss, even if his face and voice weren't so distinctive. He keeps his head shaved, not that he really needs to shave it at this point, and his deep brown eyes stare balefully out of a face usually set in a world-weary expression. He has a deep bass voice with a distinctive timbre that also usually sounds very, very done. Usually, he's found in neutral colors, though sometimes he'll accent with a splash of blue or red.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Fartoo is done with just two things: his name and your shards. Though he thought about changing his name a lot when he was younger, he's sort of come to terms with it. Solitary by choice, rather than by nature, Fartoo finds himself in the company of wherkind much more than humankind. To most people, he comes off as cold and businesslike, preferring to keep interactions as efficient and work-oriented as possible. He's definitely capable, holding himself to the same high standard that he does others. He just...isn't very friendly.
Most of this, of course, stems from his name. People who treat his name like any other find that Fartoo's actually a pretty genial man. He has a crude sense of humor and enjoys anatomical puns. The best way to tell if Fartoo actually likes you is if he cracks a joke at his own name around you. Then you're really in his good graces. He likes calling himself "Old Fart" especially, and is known to make fart-related gestures at inappropriate times.
Fartoo's work ethic is stronger than his moral compass; his cold, businesslike demeanor isn't entirely an affectation. Jaded by the war, he sees the stirrings of another war and is very, very tired. Part of the reason he's going to the Summerlands is to escape the Fort-Benden tension, and if war does reach the Summerlands, he'll fight for the side that has a better chance of keeping him and his loved ones safe.

BIRTHPLACE: Fort Weyr
HISTORY: Born to two well-meaning Weyrfolk who rather lacked common sense, Fartoo was another addition to an already-large family. His parents, when asked for the baby's name, distractedly answered "Far too many children," eventually shortening it to "Fartoo." The name stuck, and a lifetime of teasing began. A solitary child, seen more with his peculiar white firelizard Detoo than with other children, Fartoo found himself driven to wherkind at an early age (he also figured out flying was not for him) and became a wher candidate as soon as he could.
After three Turns of failing to acquire a wher egg, Fort's senior gold at the time finally gave Fartoo a small speckled egg. It hatched into a multicolored blue with a personality as bright as his hide, named Fartosk to Fartoo's exasperation. Only a short time after they graduated, the pair were tossed into the war, and they fought as ordered for twenty long Turns. Fartoo shrank into himself even more, and Fartosk lost some of his original sunny demeanor. During the war, Fartoo had a few children, though he refused to form close bonds with them to protect them from grief in case he died. They don't really talk to him these days, not even for his grandchildren, and he has some regrets, even though he still thinks it was for the best.
After the war ended, the pair dedicated themselves to the rebuilding effort, though they felt a sense of loyalty to their home Weyr. They want to escape the threat of another war, this time with Benden, and took the opportunity to go to the Summerlands in search of a fresh start and to soak up the sun.
